Dendrogram for many cases
Dear All,
I have a cluster object based on a
dissimilarity matrix from about 1,100
cases and wish to know whether anyone
can think of any tips to display some
form of graphical output which would
give some sense of the similarity
between the cases.
A standard form of dendrogram would be
fine, but with so many cases the
dendrogram on the standard devices
(R-2.20 on NT4) is very compact

ts and stl functions - still a problem
Hi
I am still having problems with using the stl function, when I read the csv file into R into a file called tkr and use dim(tkr) the result is 132 1 which is fine.
When coerce it into a trime series using ts either:
tstkr <- ts(t(tkr), deltat=1/12) or
tstkr <- ts(c(tkr), deltat=1/12)
and use the stl function I get the following error:

[macosx] improving quartz & Aqua Tk behaviour outside of RGui
Hello,
On Mac OS X, certain Aqua/Quartz UI functionality requires an
application to be launched from within an app bundle, or
(alternatively) requires a Carbon application with a resource fork.
Playing with the wxWidgets distribution, I discovered that it is quite
easy and transparent to make such a Carbon app from (I guess) any
command line application. When applied to the R executable called

Tcl/Tk window lingering too long
I want to set up a simple Tk dialog interface to a function in R,
such that when the "OK" button is pressed, the dialog window is
destroyed and then R does its work on the data/parameters/whatever
that were entered in the dialog. The function "test" below is a
simple prototype.
My problem: upon running test() and hitting "OK", R does its work

another tcl/tk query
Greetings:
I wish to use a tcl/tk widget to ask for user-selected parameter values. My
widget works ? it asks for and returns to my workspace the stuff I need.
Here is a snippet of my code:

OnOK <- function()
{
LOG.X <<- as.logical(as.character(tclvalue(log.X.buttonValue)))
LOG.Y <<- as.logical(as.character(tclvalue(log.Y.buttonValue)))

ts and stl functions
Hi,
I have imported a csv file into R which contains one column (the rate er 100,000 population of a disease, by month over 11 years) I coerced into a time series using the following function,
tstkr<-ts(tkr,deltat=1/12)
This seems to work fine, and when I check for the class of the object using class(tstkr) I get "ts" as the response.
When I try to use the stl function in

compiling packages
Hello, happy new year to all.
The new Year gave me a new computer with Win98 and promptly I installed
R on it.
I created a directory R, with subdirectories gcc, perl, bin, helpwrk and
rw1040.
I got rw1040 from BDR place, the rest were gotter from the internet in
the last week of the year, i.e. they are the newest versions.
I modified autoexec.bat to put gcc\bin, perl\bin, etc in the path. I put

index instead of loop?
Hello,
Does anyone know of a way I can speed this up? Basically I'm attempting to
get the data item on the same row as the report date for each report date
available. In reality, I have over 11k of columns, not just A, B, C, D and
I have to do that over 100 times. My solution is slow, but it works. The
loop is slow because of merge.

No subject
I need help for one program. It is about Gauss distribution. I do not know
how can I make this program in C++. Exactly I must make this, that it can
calculate a probability for value of variable z in interval (z1,z2)
It is surface under normal distribution line. Please if there is anybody who
can help me, I will be glad so.

Compiling R Package on Windows
I just installed the R-patched 1.4.0 and for some reason I now have
trouble compiling R packages - I could compile it a few weeks ago with R
1.4.0 released in December. This only happens if I put the --binary
option in.
For example:
Rcmd build --binary cw
returns the error:
make: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/PROGRA~1/R/RW1040/src/gnuwin32'

tclServiceMode: stop Tcl/Tk from updating
In Windows, Tcl/Tk programs running under the tcltk package can update
too frequently: for exmaple, we might go through a long sequence of
operations to construct a complex display, and in Windows each addition
will be shown separately.
To work around this, I've added a function "tclServiceMode" which serves
as an R interface to the "Tcl_SetServiceMode" function in the

calibration/inverse regression?
I wonder if anyone out there has written a routine to solve the simple
linear calibration problem?
- fit regression of y vs x
- estimate the value x0 (with 95% CI) that gives y0
Thanks for any help.

tkentry that exits after RETURN?
I can set up an entry widget (thanks to an old
post by Barry Rowlingson) that gets a password and
exits when the user clicks on the "OK" button.
Anyone have any clever ideas for returning/
destroying the window when the user types a carriage
return/ENTER in the text window? I've messed around
a little with validate, validatecommand, but don't
see any obvious way to do it ...

Not striclty a bug but a problem (PR#1250)
Version: 1040
OS: Windows 98 SE
Problem:
I have installed R with all help files to a network read-only drive. help.start() requires rw on two files
../R/rw1040/doc/html/packages.html
../R/rw1040/doc/html/search/index.txt
This is a minor issue as running R 1.4.0 help from the start menu works fine.
Perhaps the next version may address this?

Problem with geometry manager in TclTK
Hello, everyone.
I have the following problem with TclTk: I create some windows and want to
change their position with geometry manage (sometimes they will be centered,
sometimes not).
If the toplevel is created and its dimensions are gathered via 'tkwinfo', I
get (usually) correct values. However, if this window is created by a
function (in the following example, by 'ask.format')
