error compiling R-1.3.1 from source on WinNT
Dear R-help,
I have encountered some errors when trying to compile R-1.3.1 from source on
my WinNT4SP6 laptop (PII w/128MB RAM). I have installed all the tools
following the instruction in src/gnuwin32/INSTALL, with the exception that
the mingw compiler I have might be a bit older (they are the ones
recommended for R-1.3.0, I believe). I have also compiled the ATLAS
libraries from source using

Build R-patched from Source
Hi,
If I want to build R-patched from source (on Windows), do I need to edit
Makefile and/or MkRules at all?
I have followed all instructions in the INSTALL file (under
R-patched/src/gnuwin32/), as well as downloaded all the files from
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ . My PATH variable has been
modified accordingly.
Now, with the only change to MkRules I made was to modify the Tcl/Tk

compiling packages
Hello, happy new year to all.
The new Year gave me a new computer with Win98 and promptly I installed
R on it.
I created a directory R, with subdirectories gcc, perl, bin, helpwrk and
rw1040.
I got rw1040 from BDR place, the rest were gotter from the internet in
the last week of the year, i.e. they are the newest versions.
I modified autoexec.bat to put gcc\bin, perl\bin, etc in the path. I put

Compiling R Package on Windows
I just installed the R-patched 1.4.0 and for some reason I now have
trouble compiling R packages - I could compile it a few weeks ago with R
1.4.0 released in December. This only happens if I put the --binary
option in.
For example:
Rcmd build --binary cw
returns the error:
make: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/PROGRA~1/R/RW1040/src/gnuwin32'
make DLLNM= \

Creating libraries: Cannot make help
Hi all
I am trying to package a library in R 1.6.1 (Windoze XP).
I have read the document "Writing R extensions" and think I
have done things correctly (though apparently not). I have
searched the mail archives for help to no avail.
I also posted a few days ago and thanks to Peter Dalgaard I have
managed to focus my search for errors.
I am trying to create a library in R. I run the

Problems encountered/fixed making CrossCompileBuild
Dear All:
I encountered and apparently overcame problems following Yan
and Rossini?s procedure for "Building Microsoft Windows
Versions of R and R packages under Intel Linux"
(http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/cross-build.pdf): I
have successfully cross-compiled R packages for Windows on a
FreeBSD 4.10 i386 system.

problem installing packages from source on win2k
Dear R-helpers,
I'm having trouble compiling R packages from source on Win2K. I installed R 1.7.1beta [1] on my win2k machine [2], downloaded the fields package as source [3] and tried but failed to install the package [4]. I get the same problem with other packages, so it doesn't appear to be limited to fields. Installation of precompiled packages seems to work fine. I've been

I've just spent a hellish six hours trying to create my own R package with a
bare bones "hello world" R function inside. I was able to create a
package.tar.gz file eventually with much perseverance.
My remaining problem is that when I try to install my simple package under RGui,
it hangs.

building windows packages under wine/linux and cross-compiling.
Had some fun today, and thought it might be a good idea to share
and possibly for inclusion to R/src/gnuwin32/README.packages .
Wine/linux : while R, ActiveState Perl, mingw all works alright under
wine, the blocking issue is Rtool's cygwin dependency. forking
(as much of make and sh is forking sub-processes)
on posix-on-win32-on-posix currently doesn't work.

building a package
Dear R-helpers,
I'm learning how to compile R packages with fortran
routines and use the acepack source as an example.
After some hiccups (Guido told me about the
need to set make_mode=UNIX) I got to the following:
`make pkg-acepack' runs without error (see below),
but it does not
* compile any .f file in acepack/src
* (hence) try to create any dll file or libs

problem building first package
Hi,
I am trying to build a package from source for the first time. I'm
using Windows XP. After R CMD INSTALL or R CMD check I get an error
message that I don't understand. I've tried to follow the instrucions
provided in the R Installation and Administration .pdf and the text
file that comes with Rtools, but most of this is new to me and clearly
I'm missing something. Here's

Compile Packages under Windows and CHM
Hi,
I have been developing a small package. It install under RedHat Linux
9.0 without a problem. However, I have a small problem under Windows
XP. I am using R-1.8.0 on both systems and HTML Help Workshop
4.74.8702.0 on Windows XP. I created the package under Linux.
When I try to install the package created under Linux in Windows XP
using
c:\rtest> rcmd install rtest
