ss's are incorrect from aov with multiple factors
Hi, I have been trying to work with error terms given back from aov to make confidence intervals. However, the numbers seem to be incorrect. If there is more than one term in the ANOVA then the error terms can be inflated by the number of factors in the extra terms. The F's are correct so it is right back to the SS. I was wondering if this is standard practice for stats programs or

The help for the round function states: round rounds the values in its first argument to the specified number of decimal places (default 0). Note that for rounding off a 5, the IEEE standard is used, ``go to the even digit''. Therefore round(0.5) is 0 and round(-1.5) is -2. Could someone provide a reference for this standard? strange QQ-Plot
Hi, i am working on a data set with EDA. That includes QQ-Plots of residuals vs expected normal distribution. What puzzles me is that the range of ordinate and abscissae is so different: while the theoretical quantiles range from [-2, 2] the sample quantiles on the ordinate do extent from [-20, 50]. - round() strange behaviour
Hi, I am getting some strange results using round - it seems that it depends if the number before the decimal point is odd or even .... For example: > round(1.5)[1] 2> round(2.5)[1] 2 While i would expect that round(2.5) be 3 and not 2. Do you have any explanation for that? I really appreciate your input, Monica

Cauchy distribution limits
I have question (curiosity) regarding returned values of R's qcauchy () function, for nonexceedance probability (F). It seems the ideal returned range of cauchy distribution should be [-Inf,Inf]. For F=0 > qcauchy(0) [1] -Inf but for F=1 > qcauchy(1) [1] 8.16562e+15 It seems to me that the proper return value should be Inf??? For default (location=0,scale=1) quantile function of

What is the current state of the R-art for ordered probit models, and more esoterically is there any available R strategy for ordered cauchit models, i.e. ordered multinomial alternatives with a cauchy link function. users can't set smbpasswd, root can

Determining Starting Values for Model Parameters in Nonlinear Regression

I have data that was collected on specific gravity and spectrophotometer analysis for 26 mixtures of NG (nitroglycerine), TA (triacetin), and 2 NDPA (2 - nitrodiphenylamine). In the dataset, x1 = %NG, x2 = %TA, and x3 = %2 NDPA. The response variable is the specific gravity, and the rest of the variables are the predictors.
