caches_action :index for site root gets propagated to lower levels (how to stop?)
Hello all,
I am running a blog system which has its "/" (home page) cached like
this:
class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base
before_filter :index_cache_expirer, :only => [:index]
caches_action :index
so the site''s top page is caches for 60 seconds in my case
(index_cache_expirer is a home-made function to expire)
on the site, there is also a

caches_page :if not executing (but caches_action :if) does
Hi folks -
Seeing a weird problem and would love some help. It''s documented in
http://pastie.org/278310 to be more readable.
In short, I have a
caches_page "action", :if => {stuff}
but the :if is never being called - the action is just caching every
time. (If I put a debugger call in the :if block, it never stops.)
If I replace caches_page with caches_action, the if

How can I bypass caching for some users
I have action caching setup for several actions of an application but I
want the caching to only run for my administrators and have all other
users see non-cached pages. Is there a way to do this? Perhaps
something like passing a block to caches_action or setting some sort of
flag in my authentication method? If this is not possible with action
or fragment caching does anyone know of a

Caches_action/ before_filter problem .
Hello, I have a method called "check_permission" that is set to run as a
before_fitler and which checks if a user has the authorization to view a
page.
This page is displayed through the method "show" which is cached through
the tag "caches_action :show"
My problem is that once a user with authorization to a page accesses it,
then afterwards all users (with or

Using caches_action ?
Hi
When I enable action caching in my controller with
caches_action :view_thread
only the first part of my layout template is rendered (up to the yield
statement), and the development.log shows

caches_action - can I change the path?
How can I change:
subdomain.domain.com/directory.file.cache
to
directory/file.cache
I''d like to set how my action cache files are created.

Convince me to buy TextMate!
I got a Powerbook recently and am debating buying TextMate. I installed
the trial and have checked it out, but don''t see what''s so great about
it. AFAICS it''s the Ruby and Rails macros for expansion and other stuff
that might be it. Other than that, TextMate seems like a pretty basic
editor. I currently use PSPad and Editplus, and I could probably
get/make macros

Automatic finder
It looks rails automatically creates a "finder" method on models that have a "belongs_to". So I tried this in the console:
c = Category.find(2)
chunks = Chunk.find_by_category(c)
chunks is always returned as an empty array. When I know have some chunks with a category_id of 2.
Should the find_by_category do what I think it should be doing or am I completely off base?

[OT] Apache rewrite stuff...
Hi all, a little off topic, but was wondering what the best way is to
re-write incoming requests so that they all end up at the same domain.
For example, if I had:
my_domain.net
my_domain.com
my_domain.org
Whats the best way to map/redirect all of these to
www.my_domain.com
?
I know its possible, just not sure what to add for rules/virtual hosts
in my apache config.
Thanks for the help!

Adding routes via plugins
Hi,
I''m attempting to add a route via a plugin. I attempted to add the following to my init.rb:
myroute = ActionController::Routing::Routes.connect "boo2", :controller=>''plugin'', :action=>''index''
puts "path=#{myroute.path}"
myroute.options.keys.each do |k|
puts "#{k}=#{myroute.options[k]}"
end

Tracking page hits
Hello all,
I am developing an online store and would like to keep track of how many
times each product was viewed. While I can keep track of page hits using
something like webalizer, this won''t really work (I don''t think) as the
pages are not going to be static. Has anyone else implemented this and
if so could you please point me in the right direction. A potential

Can''t seem to get rewrite rules to work with Apache
Hi,
I''m struggling to get an Apache rewrite rule to work. I have a
simple rule that for a request to "a.html" will be sent to "b.html".
However the requests for "a.html" are always sent to my Rails apps.
Here is my Apache configuration:
<VirtualHost 216.154.219.19:80>
<Directory /u/apps/simplelog_2.0.2/public/>

doable ? action caching if anonymous, fragment caching if logged in ?
Hi All,
I''d like to use different caching strategies based on the visitor status
- anonymous => action caching
- logged in => fragment caching
Is that doable? Where should I start?
TIA
Alain

I don''t know if anyone is using this but I just fixed a bunch of bugs, some
big ones, and moved this project to RubyForge SVN servers.
So you can get it here now:
script/plugin install

This is working great for me on a couple of projects.
Here is the README

[OT] O''Reilly Cookbooks
Hi,
Has anyone gotten the "roughcuts" of the Ruby and Rails cookbooks? If you have the Pragmattic Rails Cookbook is the O''Reilly worth it? Also can you download PDF''s of their "roughcuts". The website is kind of vague, it just mentions online access (whatever that means).
Thanks in advance.

Rails Plugin Directory - Comments
The directory of Rails plugins at http://www.agilewebdevelopment.com/

and leave a kind word about your favorite plugin. :)
A feed for plugin comments is available at http://

itself is available at http://feeds.feedburner.com/RubyOnRailsPlugins.

using flickr.rb
Does anyone have any experience with using flickr.rb? Seems the only
thing which is documented for it is searching through your photos.
Anyway, all I''m trying to do is return a list of my 20 most recent
photos, but nothing seems to work.
doing this returns 100 photos for a given user (which takes all day to
load)

1.1.5 Upgrade and config.load_path not working
Hey,
I am trying to upgrade to 1.1.5 and rails no longer finds my controllers the
live outside app/controllers. I was on 1.1.2 previously and here is my
setup
In environment.rb

"rails_shared/controllers") ]
config.load_paths += [File.join(File.expand_path(RAILS_ROOT),
"rails_shared/helpers") ]
