Adjusting Font Size: lattice / bwplot
Hello,
If you run the following code with lattice installed:
bwplot(voice.part ~ height, data=singer, xlab="Height (inches)")
There will be some text in the graph e.g. Soprano 1, Soprano 2, etc -
60, 65, etc and the title: Height (Inches). How can one make the font
for this text larger and/or bold? Also, is there a way to thicken or
bold the lines of the box and whisker plot?

axis in r plot
I have a graph plotted in r.The x axis tickmarks are at 0,5,10. I need a
graph with resolution of tickmarks at 0.1 interval.When i place tickmarks of
0.1 intervals using the following command axis(1, at=seq(0,5,0.1),
cex.axis=0.7, las=2) I only get the tickmarks of 0.1 interval that are very
closed placed in the graph.I need to increase the spacing between each
tickmark. Please anyone help out

bold AND italic as font in text()
Dear all,
Is it possible to somshow plot text as italic AND bold. I tried font=c(2,3)
in text(), but it doesn't work. It seems like the latter value is used.
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Tord

How to make nice tiny sized figures on graphic devices producing scalable vector output?
Hello!
Usually whenever I want a tiny plot, I just create it as is (or even large) and then downscale it in the end application like LaTeX of MS Word. However, all these graphic devices like postscript, pdf, win.metafile retain physical sizes, so it would be natural if I can just insert graphics as is provided those have proper physical sizes embedded.
The question is what is the best

Bold Substring in mtext (newbie question)
Hi everyone,
I suspect this is an easy task however I've not been able to accomplish it. I'd like to create an mtext title which has certain words bold, the rest not bold. So far I've been able to create one which is all bold, one which is all not bold and one which has bold and not bold superimposed on one another. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Many thanks,

Labelling and formatting of graphics
In the output of the code below, I want to do the following:
- get hats over some of the betas
- get the polygons stippled, not coloured grey
- remove the tick marks at the ends of the axes. If I put tick =
false, the whole axis disappears.
betahat <- c(0.04*0:150)
betahatdens <- dnorm(betahat, 3, 1)
plot(betahat, betahatdens, xlim = c(-0.2, 6.2),

italic font for legend text when using expression function for symbols
Hello,
I'm trying to add a symbol (Delta) to plot legend with text using
"expression(paste())" but this disables the text.font that allows to use
bold or italic text.
as follows:
x=c(1:10)
y=c(1:10)
plot(x,y)
legend(1,10,legend=c("A","B","C",expression(paste(Delta, D))),
pch=c(24,18,17,16),cex=2,text.font=3,bty="n")
Any suggestion to

Partial italic in graph titles when looping
Dear all,
I have a rather complicated problem. I am trying to loop through making graphs,
so that the graph-making process is fully automated. For each graph, I'd like to
make sure the corresponding title is formatted properly. The titles will be a
combination of a gene name and numerical position within the gene. The gene name
should be italic-bold, whereas the gene position should be

Can I make my colnames bold?
Hello forum! As the subject indicates, I am trying to make a barplot and
would like my column names to be in bold. Is this possible in R without
having to make my column names in mtext? Any help would be much
appreciated. The code I am using is as follows.

par(adj=.5)
par(font=2)
par(oma=c(3,3,3,3))
par(xpd=TRUE)

Bold in expression in Y label

I need to put bold font in the y label, which is an expression at the same

When putting font.lab=2 in plot, it only puts bold font for the x axis
label.. what should I do? Thanks very much

xyplot - label one line
Hi All,
I have a panel xyplot with 2 lines in each panel. I'd like to label one line

ideas how I could change it to show the y-values of only one of the lines?
Many thanks!

good procedure for creating plots for PowerPoint
I am generating some graphs (on GNU/Linux using R 1.5.x) for a
PowerPoint presentation my boss is giving next week. He just tried
cut/pasted a plot off of a PDF file I had created, but he complained
that the fonts were too small and fuzzy, and that he couldn't change
the background. I have been playing with png(bg=transparent), but I
am not sure what appropriate height,width parameters and

Antialiasing plots and text on different devices
I have a question about antialiasing when R generates bitmaps. (This follows
a thread on the ggplot2 mailing list.)
I mostly use R on Linux, although I sometimes use it in Mac and Windows as
well. On Linux, I've found that plotting shapes 15-18 via cairo results in
bad-looking output. The points are not antialiased, and they are jagged and
misshapen. Plots generated in Windows also aren't

Bold greek letters using plotmath
I'm trying to annotate some graphics using plotmath and finding out that the
code I'm using isn't bolding the greek letters - it bolds the rest (once I
adjusted the numerics to characters), it's just failing on the greek
characters.
Any suggestions welcomed.

offset labeling boxplots
Hello everybody,
often I plot boxplots with different number of boxes (up to 200 boxes).
I'd like to give every box a readable label on the x-axis. Therefore, I
decrease the fontsize of the names and plot them vertical.
But if you zoom into the plot (pdf) you will find an offset between the
tickmark and the label - the label is shifted to the right.
If you vary the box.count in the

lattice + plotmath: how to get a variable in bold face?
Dear all,
How can I get a bold "1000" in the title? I would like to use a variable (as opposed to putting in "1000" directly).
library(lattice)
N <- 1000
xyplot(0~0, xlab.top=list(label=as.expression(bquote(bold("foo" ~ .(N) ~ "bar"))), font=2, cex=1.2))

Mtext and xyplot
Dear all;
I wish to create a graphic object combing an xyplot() and an mtext(). My
code looks like following,
gmv <- {
trellis.device("windows", bg="white", width = 7, height = 7)
xyplot(Mvol ~ Age | Nl * Th , data = Hft1,
prepanel = function(x, y) prepanel.loess(x, y, span = 1),
xlab =list(label = "Age (Years)", font = 2),
