MARS help?
I'm trying to use mars{mda} to model functions that look fairly close to a sequence of straight line segments. Unfortunately, 'mars' seems to totally miss the obvious places for the knots in the apparent first order spline model, and I wonder if someone can suggest a better way to do this. The following example consists of a slight downward trend followed by a jump up after

Error message in function mars() in package mda
Hi, I am using function mars() in package mda to find knots in a whole bunch of predictor variables. I hope to be able to replicate all or some of the basis functions that the MARS software from Salford Systems creates. When I ran mars() on a small dataset, I was able to get the knots. However, when I tried running mars() on a larger dataset (145 predictor variables), for a different

Problems with mars in R in the case of nonlinear functions
Hi, I'm trying to use mars function in R to interpolate nonlinear multivariate functions. However, it seems that mars gives me a fit which uses only very few basis function and it underfits very badly. For example, I have tried the following code to test mars: require("mda") f <- function(x,y) { x^2-y^2 }; #f <- function(x,y) { x+2*y }; # Grid x <-

Polymars
I've seen references to "polymars", an R implementation of Friedman's MARS algorithm. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find this (doesn't seem to be in the contributed packages. missing values for mda package
Dear helpers, I am trying to use the mda package downloaded from the R website, but the data set has missing values so I got an error message. Should I manually handle these missing values? I was trying to read the documents to specify any option related to missing values, but I did not find it. Please forgive me if I ignore something obvious. Thanks, Zhu Wang Statistical Science Department

Bivariate Splines in R
Hi.., is there a function in R to fit bivariate splines ? I came across 'polymars' (POLSPLINE) and 'mars' (mda) packages. Are these the one to use or are there other specific commands? Thanks. Harsh

Question about mars() -function
Hi! I have some questions about MARS model's coefficient of determination. I use the MARS method in my master's thesis and I have noticed some problems with the MARS model's R^2. You can see the following example that the MARS model's R^2 is too big when i have used mars() -function for MARS model building, and when I have made MARS-model using a linear regression, it

lda fails in parse_angle_addr if sieve is enabled
Hi, Since updating to 2.3.1 on my FreeBSD mailserver mail delivery using lda is broken if I have sieve enabled. (Before updating this was 2.2 and pigeonhole 0.4) FreeBSD 11.1-p8 amd64 Dovecot 2.3.1 Pigeonhole 0.5.1 Mailflow is OpenSMTPd as MTA, using mda delivery to rspamc which utlimately delivers using dovecot-lda. smtpd.conf deliver to mda "rspamc -h scan --mime -e

Voicemail WAV to PDA Problems
Our asterisk server has been up and running for over a year and it works great. I have emails going to my account as an attachment and I can listen to them on the desktop and it works fine. I just got a T-Mobile MDA that runs Windows Pocket (or whatever they call it) and it can check email. If I have it download the email, it gets the attachment, but it can't seem to play it (it CAN

[LLVMdev] AnalysisUsage: addRequired vs. addRequiredTransitive
Hi, I'm a bit confused about the distinction between addRequired and addRequiredTransitive in AnalysisUsage. From PassAnalysisSupport.h: "REQUIRES (must be available when the pass runs), REQUIRES TRANSITIVE (must be available throughout the lifetime of the pass)." The part that's confusing me is "must be available when the pass runs". I don't see how

writing an MDA, help me avoid corrupted indexes
Hello. First, I want to thank those responsible for Dovecot IMAP as it was a real treat to implement in comparison to my mostly-failed attempts with Cyrus. The passwd-file authentication was exactly what I needed as I really didn't want to have to deal with PAM or LDAP but where I am setting up a server with virtual accounts. I'm using Postfix as an MTA, and it quite handily passes

pop3_lock_session question
Hello, I'm preparing to convert from qpopper + UW-IMAP to dovecot. So far testing has gone very well. One problem we haven't figured out is that long-running POP sessions keep the mailbox locked, so that the MDA times out while trying to deliver. We're using "maildrop" as our MDA if that matters. We don't see this issue for dovecot IMAP sessions. During long-running

need help with smooth.spline
Dear R listers, When using smooth.spline to interpolate data, results are generally good. However, some cases produce totally unreasonable results. The data are values of pressure, temperature, and salinity from a probe that is lowered into the ocean, and the objective is to interpolate temperature and salinity to specified pressures. While smooth.spline provides excellent values at the

deliver vs lda
deliver is the binary name. but it's configured inside protocol lda {} section. This is getting annoying, any thoughts on what would be a good unifying name? a) deliver binary, protocol deliver {} b) lda binary, protocol lda {} c) dovecot-lda binary, protocol lda {} d) mda binary, protocol mda {} e) dovecot-mda binary, protocol mda {} f) something else? In any case protocol lda {} would
