maps in R for Windows
I am using R1.2.0 on Windows NT4.0 and am looking for information on drawing geographical maps. [The things I'd like to do at the moment are rather simple, just like plotting the values of some variable (e.g. a SMR) on a given map.] Searching the r-help mailing list archives, it seems this topic comes up from time to time. library maps for R
Anybody interested in the S maps library for R? I have ported a limited version of the software for a Unix platform, and would be happy to make it available for anybody interested. If there is a lot of interest then I will submit it to CRAN. I know that Ross Ihaka is working on a new version for R, which does not have some of the limitations of the original S version. Running Median and Mean
R gurus, On Aug 20, 2002, I asked in R-help about calculating a running 5-day median on a large matrix. Thanks to Martin Maechler <maechler@stat.math.ethz.ch> and Ray Brownrigg <Ray.Brownrigg@mcs.vuw.ac.nz> for responding. trouble with maps
Has anyone else seen this behavior from the "maps" package? map('state', fill=TRUE) results in a lively mix of overlapping polygons inside a map of the US, but they have no obvious relationship to state boundaries. "problem" with delay()
I have been using delay() quite successfully to 'load on reference' some large data files (earthquake catalogues). One minor difficulty I have not been able to overcome is that upon first reference, the data set is loaded into memory as expected, but also remains as a permanent object in the user's environment, instead of appearing to be only in the library from which it was loaded.

Mapping (followup) + package installation
Hi, I'm looking to create a few basic world maps in R (for Windows). A while back someone asked for the same thing and was referred to the (*.tar) files at: ftp://ftp.mcs.vuw.ac.nz/pub/statistics/map/ which I downloaded. However, I am unable to install them, and clearly I'm not doing something properly (I'm your basic moron when it comes to installation, so please understand).
