tftp-hpa and remap file examples
We just started playing round with tftp-hpa and we are very happy!
The issue that is prompting me to write this is that we would like to
use the remap file, but are having a hard time getting the syntax
correct. I have searched the web and mailing list archive (only back to
when the list moved to it's current location), but have not been able to
find any examples.
Would somebody be so kind

Bootstrapping on R
Does R have a bootstrap command like SPlus, or do we have to form our
own code if we want to do bootstrapping in R?

Spam-Filter @stat.math.ethz.ch: was dead for about 15 hours
As many of you have probably realized, the spam filtering
at @stat.math.ethz.ch has been dead for since yesterday (09-25)
~16:50 till today ~08:30.
The sudden death may have been caused by unrelated installation
of some perl modules (spamassassin *is* running on perl) by our
IT staff.
We are very sorry for this event.
On the bright side: You have been able to get a glimpse of what
you are

interaction.plot() legend too narrow when mfcol > 2 (PR#1899)
Here is an example:
The legends (mainly the factor level names) are cut off on the
right. Somehow the internal calculation which computes
horizontal space for the legend is not flexible enough.
## Call a new graphics window {with default par()s !}:
get(getOption("device"))()
par(mfrow = c(2,2))

density(kernel = "cosine") .. the `wrong cosine' ..
I'm in teaching mode, kernel densities.
{History: density() was newly introduced in version 0.15, 19 Dec 1996;
most probably by Ross or Robert
}
When I was telling the students about different kernels (and why their
choice is not so important, and "equivalent bandwidths" etc,etc)
I wondered about the "Cosine" in my teaching notes which
is defined there as

[Fwd: LispStat, R and ViSta [was: Re: Status?]]
I have compiled Darwin R using the AquaTk frameworks. This works
(except for a small glitch). I am sure Stefano could hook these into
Carbon R, but Jose/Stefano probably should connect them with
the Cocoa interfaces. You can get the frameworks (8.4a5, I
think) from ftp://ftp.ucsd.edu/pub/alpha/tcl/alphatk/ -- they are
in the alphatk.dmg. Of course the X11 version of tcltk does NOT
work with Carbon

New mysql for the CentOSPlus repository includes mysql-cluster
CentOS has been distributing the Enterprise version of MySQL as part of
our CentOS Web Stack that is in the CentOSPlus repository of CentOS-4
for quite a while.

MySQL has recently changed it's policy concerning the distribution of
it's Enterprise Sources (they no longer distribute them as a tarball):

a version of source() which keeps comments ?
I'd like to have this to be used in, e.g.,
demo() and example().
Currently, source() parse()s the entire file and then evaluates
expression by expression. ``Of course'', parse() already loses
the comments.
An (much slower) alternative might be to the readLine() the
file, echo what we read,
and try to parse() ``the current chunk''.
when parse() fails (when the current

Re: [R] R - S compatibility table (fwd)
I appreciate Brian and Martin's answers -- and I certainly don't spend
as much time & energy maintaining and answering questions about R as they
do -- *but* it does seem to me that it would make a number of new
(switching) user's lives easier if there were a succinct list of these
differences, with a disclaimer ... I would be willing to maintain such a
list, but since I
