AMD and fax detection
Is it feasible to enhance AMD to detect and report if the far end sends fax tones?
I am guessing that, as it is using DSP to detect sounds and periods of silence, the same DSP can also report if a CED tone is sent.
If it is feasible, is there a document describing the DSP interface that someone who is not familiar with DSP can use to get started?

Blocking outgping caller id on a PRI E1
I am trying to block/hide outgoing caller id on a PRI E1.
It seems that it should be fairly simple, but it is defeating me.
https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/AST/Function_CALLERID says:
"to hide your caller id, use: Set(CALLERID(num-pres)=prohib)"
That doesn't seem to do it.
The calls are originated from AMI and I have tried a blank "CallerId:" line and

Detecting a fax
A while back, I posted about detecting when a call was picked up by a
fax machine. It was suggested that having a "fax" extension and
"faxdetect=yes" would cause it to jump to the "fax" extension. This was
not something I could get to work.
I have now created a very simple example. In sip.conf I have "faxdetect
= yes". My example extension is:

A strange file-ownership problem
The scenario:
I have two Samba servers on my network. One, running v3.0.37, is on my
main server, a Solaris 10 x86 box. The other, just updated from 3.0.37
to 3.4.5 in the hope of solving this problem, is on my workstation, a

Solaris Samba server shares [homes] and four other shares. Unix UIDs

Test: Lame vs. Ogg/Vorbis -- warning big mail
Hi there.
First of all, I'd like to congratulate to developers
for making a free specification and LGPLed
decoder/encoder. :-).
I did some test, ripping 17 tracks of my CD and
converting them to both MP3 and OGG format.
MP3 encoder/player was Lame 3.70
OGG encoder/player was from a Saturday nightly
tgz package.

Actually, most ostensibly "Linux" distributions contain *large*
amounts of software that is under various licenses other than the GPL.
University licenses especially, and particularly the

R-base licensing question
It is my understanding that R is licensed under the GPL with the
exception of a few header files for the purposes of linking binary code
with R under non-GPL licenses.
However, the R-base package itself is licensed under the GPL, as are
many (but not all) packages in CRAN. Furthermore, basically any R
script will use functionality from R-base. As I understand it, the
situation isn't

Hi Marco
Try to veto oplocks for that file.
In the global section of your smb.conf, add the following
veto oplock files = /NTUSER.DAT/

configure optimization
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Given a server with MySQL userdb/passwd and maildir storage, excluding unused
storages and authentications in configure options does save some memory and/or
speed or is it worthless?
I mean, is there a performance difference between this two versions of configure
parameters or is just a waste of time to exclude what is not used?

lm_sensors
Hi all :)
Using lm_sensors, I can see few temperature indicator.
M/B Temp: +39?C (low = +15?C, high = +40?C) sensor = thermistor
CPU Temp: +33?C (low = +15?C, high = +45?C) sensor = thermistor
Temp3: +53?C (low = +15?C, high = +45?C) sensor = diode
What is that Temp3? It's the hottest.
Which one is the best to use if I want to use lm_sensor as a general

CentOS4, KDE3.3 and 128 WEP
CentOS4 standard installation.
I see that KwifiManager doesn't support 128 bit WEP which I need for other
machines on the network, which is a bit of a blow - and rather surprising
really as security should be quite a consideration on an enterprise level
system (NB RH!).
Is there a workaround? An alternative way of configuring my Belkin

Perspective axes
Is there a way to get the axes labels for a persp() plot to show the
actual values employed? ticktype='detailed' only shows a scale from 0 to
1. My values are (for example) y in 0.2-0.7, x in 450-560 and I would
like to suppress the z labels.
How can I get the x and y values to appear on the plot?
R-2.3.1, Windows XP Home.
Best wishes

Firefox and Java on CentOS 4.1
I need to run a Java-enabled Firefox on my CentOS4.1-powered laptop and it
*was* running fine. Then yesterday I up2date'd the box and Firefox went
from 1.0.4 to 1.0.6. And I lost Java.
I can't seem to re-install it, whether from the original (1.5.0 I think it
was) or the latest downloads.
This is crucially important as I need to access my Dell RAC.
Can anyone advise how to get

Extracting Phi from gls/lme
I am trying to extract into a scalar the value of Phi from the printed
output of gls or lme using corAR1 correlation. ie I want the estimate of
the autocorrelation. I can't see how to do this and haven't seen it
anywhere in str(model.lme).
I can get all the other information - fixed and random effects etc.
Is there an obvious way so that I can save the brick wall some damage?
TIA
