Reading of a large SAS Export dataset
I am trying to read in a large SAS dataset (1706 observations, 72
variables) using the foreign package.
R crashes, with the error message "This program has performed an
illegal operation and will be shut down." The details given include
"RGUI caused an invalid page fault in module FOREIGN.DLL at

Bearing in mind the statement on p.2 of the R Data

SAS Export datasets alfalfa.xpt and test.xpt
The above came with V1.2.3, but don't seem to be included with
V1.3.0. When I upgraded R, I assumed they would also come with the
new version, so didn't save them elsewhere.
Could someone please email them to me, or tell me where I could get
hold of them?
Many thanks in advance.

Help Updating and Installing R Packages
Hi Everyone,
I have a few fairly basic questions about upgrading and installing R
packages. First off, I am using Ubuntu Hardy Heron and have R 2.7.1
installed and working perfectly. I usually access R via Emacs ESS interface
which I am still trying to get the hang of. My questions and issues are as
follows:

install.packages question / suggestion
Hello,
when trying to write an R-file, which automatically installs and updates a
given list of packages, I had two problems with install.packages()
1) install.packages("<package>") will install <package>, no matter if
<package> has already been installed.
2) the readline() at the end of install.packages, which asks the user, if
the downloaded files should be

I am moving from windoze on a Dell laptop to Debian but I seem to have

I installed a number of the additional R packages using synaptic which
reported no errors but when I run my first
