Building R-2.3.1 for Windows with ATLAS
Ok, moved to R-devel. I tried to build R-2.3.1. Since I intent to distribute this tuned R to all other who have a computer like mine here at work I thought it was best to stay with the latest stable release. About your suggestion, I could'n find xerblas.o file. And I don't know how to edit libf77blas.a. I tried to open it with VIM (http://vim.sf.net/) but there was a lot of strange

Any interest in ATLAS-enabled R-1.4.0 for MSWin?
Hi all, I've compiled R-1.4.0 on my NT box with link against ATLAS. It has passed all the Rcmd CHECK that I could run. If there's sufficient interest, I can make the SetupR.exe available (on CRAN?). Just drop me a note if you're interested. Note the following: o I can only connect thru 56K dial-up until Jan. 2, 2002, so unless there's overwhelming demand, I won't attempt

Tuned Rblas.dll available on CRAN (for Windows)
There is a new area on CRAN bin/windows/contrib/ATLAS which contains Rblas's compiled against ATLAS 3.4.1 for various chips. To use one of these, just rename rw1051\bin\Rblas.dll and drop the replacment in its place. Using a tuned BLAS will be noticeably faster only on some linear-algebra calculations, notably those using La.svd and La.eigen (which might be twice as fast). There are

error compiling R-1.3.1 from source on WinNT
Dear R-help, I have encountered some errors when trying to compile R-1.3.1 from source on my WinNT4SP6 laptop (PII w/128MB RAM). I have installed all the tools following the instruction in src/gnuwin32/INSTALL, with the exception that the mingw compiler I have might be a bit older (they are the ones recommended for R-1.3.0, I believe). I have also compiled the ATLAS libraries from source using

Making libraries on gnuwin32 R-0.63.0
I have put at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/R/win32/makehelp.zip a file with instructions and the tools I used to make help for libraries for Guido's gnuwin32 version of R-0.63.0. There are also instructions for making libraries without remaking R itself. Brian -- Brian D. Ripley, ripley at stats.ox.ac.uk Professor of Applied Statistics,

R-devel & ATLAS generates Dr. Watson on NT (was RE: Look, Wa tson! La.svd & ATLAS)
Prof. Bates & R-devel, I've done more test with the following results: I have two versions of ATLAS 3.2.1. One was compiled on my old Thinkpad 600E (PII), the other was compiled on my new Thinkpad T22 (PIIISSE1). I compiled R-devel dated 10/31, 11/01 and 11/04, linked against either of the two ATLAS libs. All gave Dr. Watson when given this code: La.svd(matrix(runif(1e5), 1e3,

Re: problem posting to r-help list
You are using the wrong make. Please read the instructions very carefully. You _must_ use the cygwin make with the supplied Makefiles. As INSTALL says: You will also need suitable versions of at least make, sh, rm, sed, (g)awk, mkdir, echo, cp, cut, diff, grep, egrep, pwd, expr and cat; we use those from the cygwin distribution (http://sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin and several

Error 127 and dlltool
Hello: Many thanks to Professor Ripley for responding to my earlier post, included below, about trying to use mingw32 gcc.I did put back the original Rinternals.h. I am still crashing R every time I try to use C code. Here is what I did, basd on readme.packages: 1.) Ensured that C:\Rtools was first in my path, and obtained a new tools.zip from BDR's R tools site. 2.) Ensured that I

Look, Watson! La.svd & ATLAS
Dear R-devel, I had attempted to compile r-devel (dated Oct. 31, 2001) on WinNT with link to ATLAS, with mostly success. However, when I tried the following, I got a visit from Dr. Watson: R : Copyright 2001, The R Development Core Team Version 1.4.0 Under development (unstable) (2001-10-31) R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. argument PACKAGE in .C/.Fortran
One problem with linking compiled code is getting the symbol from the right shared library/DLL (hereafter DLL). This actually happened to Guido Masarotto recently: both leaps and ts had "ss", and leaps got ts's version (and thereby crashed R). We have added an argument PACKAGE to .C, .Fortran, .Call and .External, which confines the symbol search to the named DLL (name without

tuned BLAS
I've been updating the information on tuned BLAS for R-admin in R-patched and R-devel. We have ATLAS (widely available, including for Windows) MKL (licensed on ix86 and x86_64 Linux and Windows) ACML (by AMD, but for all ix86 and x86_64 chips, Linux and Windows. Now available for gfortran.) Goto (academic use only, only some chips, only Linux) MKL and ACML provide full LAPACK,

Linking Rblas [under Windows]
Dear Prof. Ripley, thank you very much. It works now absolutely fine using a "Makevars" file with the contents you suggested. Building R for Windows with ATLAS
I think this is not a R-devel question. Sorry to all if I'm wrong, please let me know. I managed to build R successfully with the default BLAS but when I change the MKRULES to use ATLAS BLAS and set the path to "C:/cygwin/home/Administrador/ATLAS/lib/WinNT_ATHLONSSE2" I got the following error message (I'm posting only the final part, there was a lot of compilation before this):
