Unable to make bitmapdll files on windows 7 64 bit machine
I am trying to build a windows 32 bit version of R 2.11.0 from source on a machine running
windows 7 - 64 bit while running as the machine's administrator.
I am able to run "make all recommended"...However, once I attempt to build the bitmap files I get the following:
C:\Rsource\R-2.11.0\src\gnuwin32>make bitmapdll
make -C bitmap

Nested Designs
Dear R list,
What is the proper way to specify a nested model so that
the F values agree with the expected mean square errors?
Specifically, suppose I have a design where "Heads" are
nested within "Machines". I would like to model the
following Y_ijk = Mu + Machine_i +Head_j(i) +Error_k(ij).
Using the commands below,
> summary(aov(Strain~Machine + Head%in%Machine ))

Histogram with different colors for different portions
Dear Rusers,
I would like to color different sections of a histogram different colors.
I have an example that was done by "brute force" given below. Has anyone
implemented something like this in general? If not, any suggestions/pointers
on how to write a general function to do so would be most appreciated.

use 'lapply' to creat 2 new columns based on old ones in a data frame
There is a dataset 'm', which has 3 columns: 'index', 'old1' and 'old2';
I want to create 2 new columns: 'new1' and 'new2' on this condition:
if 'index'==i, then 'new1'='old1'+add[i].
'add' is a vector of numbers to be added to old columns, e.g. add=c(10,20,30
...)
Like this:
index old1 old2 new1

use of predict() with confidence/prediction bands
To my understanding, a confidence interval typically covers a single
valued parameter. In contrast, a confidence band covers an entire line
with a band. In regression, it is quite common to construct confidence
and prediction bands. I have found that many people are connecting
individual confidence/prediction interval values produced with
predict(object,sd.fit=T,type="conf/pred") and

anybody using R with TextPad?
I was wondering whether somebody has developed a set of Textpad macro
that work with R the same way as WinEdt does. I use Textpad for almost
everything (programming, creating LaTex docs, etc.), it will be nice if
I can use it as my R program editor. Or maybe someone can tell me how
that kind of macro works so that I can develop my own macros. Thank you!

convert characters into integers in a matrix
Hello,
I will appreciate any suggestion for this simple problem. I have a matrix of
characters "A", "P", "M".
I want to convert those characters to integers 0,1, 1 respectively. I am
using the following R statements:
exprs.new<-gsub("P",1,exprs)
exprs.new1 <- gsub("A",0,exprs.new)
exprs.new2 <-

plot representation of calculated value known to be 7.4
Dear friends - merry Christmas and thanks a lot for much help during the
year!
In the example below I fail to understand how the calculated value pH is
represented in a simple plot - also included. The calculations are
useful in practice and likely to be right in principle but I cannot see
how this occurs: why a calculated value of 7.4 known as numeric is not
simply plotted as such. It

editor for MacOS
Dear friends - I'm using Tinn-R in Windows and find it OK. My son is
running MacOS and is just starting using R and I know nothing about
MacOS and R but we seem to have difficulties in finding something
similar to Tinn for MaC. What are your suggestions?
Thanks a lot!

Problem trying to plot Vennerable object
Hi,
I'm new to the list so apologies if this has been asked before. I
couldn't find any refs in google.
I recently installed the Vennerable library from Rforge, this required
an upgrade of R to 2.10.0 by the 'pylr' dependency.
However, a very simple command fails:
Vcomb <- Venn(SetNames= c("EOCT", "EOCM"), Weight=c(0, 11841, 24084, 24660))
plot(Vcomb)

It does give a warning, but then it overwrites the files, anyway.
Reproducible example below.
This is R 3.4.3, but it does not seem to be fixed in R-devel:

How to remove autocorrelation from a time series?
Dear R users,
someone knows how to remove auto-correlation from a frequencies time series?
I've tried by differencing (lag 1) the cumulative series (in order to have only positive numbers) , but I can't remove all auto-correlation.
If it's useful I can send my db.
x <- # autocorrelated series
new1<-cumsum(x)
new2<-diff(new1,lag=1,differences = 1)
acf(new2) #

disturbed legend in ggplot2
Dear friends - below is a subset of a much larger material showing two
ways of generating two "lines". The intention is to have the colour
reflect a variable, pH, but the legend is disturbed. The little part
marked "3" above the colour scale is unwelcome. Why did it appear? How
could I avoid it?
