S Programming Book at Amazon.com
As of a moment ago (9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 8, 2001), the S Programming book by
Venables and Ripley was once again selling for 17.98 American dollars at
Amazon.com. Alas, I notice that "Mixed Effects Models in S and S-Plus" by
Pinheiro and Bates now lists at Amazon for 97.25 American dollars, as
opposed to about $70 a little while ago.

GLM available book recommendation
Howdy,
I looked at the references in the R and S-Plus literature to find a
good introduction/reference to GLM. When I then went to Amazon it
seemed to me that all the recommended books are out of print.
Can anyone give me a recommendation which _available_ book to get?

multiphasic growth curve analysis
Greetings R Help Group,
How does one effect a multiphasic logistic growth model with 4 phases (e.g. Koops 1986; Weigel, Craig, Bidwell and Bates 1992; Grossman and Koops 2003) with R.
Before writing to the group, the R help archives were searched, the web was searched with Google, Venables and Ripley 2002 was consulted, Pinheiro and Bates 2000 was consulted, Bates and Watts 2007 was bought and

Dalgaard's book
Hello all:
Why arbitrage rarely works.
Peter Dalgaard's "Introductory Statistics with R" sells on AMAZON U.S.
website at USD 44.95 and on AMAZON U.K at GBP 21.00. At the current
exchange rate, the U.K. price translates to USD 32.68, a 27% savings BUT for
delivery: the U.S. AMAZON promises 6-10 days whereas in the U.K. 4-6 weeks
is promised.

S/R programming books
Hi,
I have been using R for a few months now and I am confident that the
language has everything I will need to complete my PhD. I can create
functions, script files and packages, but I would like to write my
programs more efficiently (maybe using OO). Can anyone recommend a good
book on the "art" of good R programming?
Kind Regards,
Sam.

Anything to replace Statistical Models in S ("the white book")?
Hello:
I found that Amazon cannot find a copy of "Statistical Models in S"? I am
about to embark on some tree-based and perhaps ANOVA models and have
following options:
(*) Find another book/online doc that covers this material (perhaps one
recommended on the R FAQ page)
(*) Use R documentation
(*) Try even harder to land the white book.
I have a decent conceptual and

Xen Book
Hi,
I had read on this thread -
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-03/msg00759.html
- (which is about a year old) about a Xen book being written. Any
updates or others currently writing books on Xen? Thank you.

Preconditions for a variance analysis
Hello everbody,
i'm currently using the anova()-test for a small data.frame of 40
rows and 2 columns. It works well, but is there any preconditions for
a valid variance analysis, that i should consider?
Thank you for your answer,

Resampling Stats software
Hi,
I am new to R (I have most of my experience in SAS and SPSS). I was
wondering if anyone has used both Resampling Stats and R, and could comment
on strengths/relationships. Also, I have no clue on how to do the various
examples from the book "Resampling: The New Statistics" in R. Can anyone
give me some possible starting points? Or websites/books?
Thanks,
Brandon

Getting rows from a dataframe
Sorry if this is a silly question. I'm trying to extract all elements
of a dataframe at a particular row. I can find no mention of this in
any documentation and it may be naivety of dataframe on my part as I'm
very green at this. Thankyou,

Useful books for learning the R software and the S programming language
any useful books for learning the R statistical software?
are they pricey?
and if the books recommended focus on S, how compatible will they be for
someone learning R?
thank you in advance for your help.
P.S.
specialized survey statistical procedures? Is R good at that?

This is a little bit off-topic, but I was wondering if anyone has any
informed opinion on whether data (ie. a dataset) is copyrightable?

I am new to R and am looking for a book that can help in learning to
program in R. I have looked at the R website suggested books but I am

"Linux aux petits oignons" - Book about Linux based on CentOS 5.3 (french)
Hi,
The last six months, I've been busy writing "Linux aux petits oignons",
a general introduction to GNU/Linux. The book is aimed at the beginner
(or intermediate) reader, though :
1) it's *not* based on Ubuntu, but on CentOS 5.3
2) it doesn't shy away from explaining basic UNIX concepts
3) it favours the use of simple command-line tools

Off-topic: Biostatistics book spam?
Just got what seems to be the first spam for a stats book I ever saw.
It only has one review at amazon, and for all I know the author wrote
it himself.
This might be a decent text, but if so, I'd like to hear it from someone here.
