Re: Importing Excel .xls into R
One can import data from Excel ODBC source, but of course it is user's
responsibility to ensure that the data are consistent. Each worksheet in the
Excel workbook can be accessed as a table (for example, for Sheet1, you should
type "select * from [Sheet1$]". The worksheet should have first row containing
the column names, and the data rows should follow (the

R: Some libraries and ideas for a 'librarified' R
Well, I think the better solution would be to put them on the web: I tried
to open two web pages but I forget the possword every time :-(.
I see 2 quick solutions:
- send the files via e-mail
- put the files on CRAN (where?);
However I can do these in 2-3 days only (I have sources home).

R: RODBC
Under which version of R is it supposed to run ?
With 1.1.0 under windows NT 4.0 against Access databases it doesn't work, I
cannot get the name of the tables, every query I execute returns with "No
Data".
I'm surely doing something wrong ...

weighting observations
Dear R users,
I wonder how to weight observationswhen computing statistics and creating
tables (e.g. of counts)
I'm used to the SPSS paradigm (WEIGHT by foo.) where any subsequent command
will weight any variable ...
Suppose that I want to compute a table of weighted counts: is the right
R-approach to write a little custom function or it could be better to write
a new class

Locfit
Dear,
I am doing some statistics analysis using R software. I am currently trying
to implement your library locfit. I am using Win NT and R1.1.1 version
obtained on the following Webmaster :

When trying to run it, the following message appears:

Some libraries and ideas for a 'librarified' R
Hy you all,
Short version:
I think I have some code that could be interesting to make the R
architecture evolve towards better thread support, easier memory management,
better user interface programming (progress bar, logs), powerful debugging
without recompiling (hach!)
some years ago I start learning C with an ambitious project: write a C
library for multivariate data analysis.

untar() error
Dear List,
I have a list of 600+ *.gz files that I would like to extract and read the
geotiffs contained within them. I tried using the untar() function to
simplify this task but I am stumped by an error. I've combed the Internet
for a solution without luck. The details are below, and any help in solving
this matter is appreciated.

Ethernet card addr <-> IP

Hi everyone -
Someone I''m working with has a requirement to map ethernet card addresses
to unique IP addresses, and then have a Linux IP masquerade server know of
this mapping list and not allow any data to pass from any ethernet card
that a) it doesn''t know about, or b) isn''t assigned the right IP. Ideally
it would also log this

I configured samba 3 on a Red Hat machine, I then
built and installed it.
The problem is that after installation has finished, I
couldn't find the samba configuration file smb.conf.
Any idea please?

Hello dovecot
Problem : maildirsize and dovecot quota get have different values

happens with : some mailboxes
This issue happens only to some mailboxes and only for a specific period of time until maildirsize gets updated by something (not me). I can't reproduce this now because it happened this morning and now its 2 PM and the problem is gone
