multiple comparison tests & simultaneous multiple plots
I am not sure if my message made it through, so here it is again!
Hi Rer's,
R-1.1.0
I have two questions for you:
1)
I am trying to complete a multiple comparison test after completing a
one-way ANOVA on some data. I think this is pretty reasonable.
aov(MetricSubset ~ GeneNameFactor)
works
pairwise.t.test(MetricSubset,GeneNameSubset,p.adjuxt.method=bonferroni,p
ool.sd=FALSE)

Cox's regression analysis with Left truncated data
Hi,
I have a fairly simple question. I would like to use the survival package
to perform an analysis on data where an event can have occurred before
individuals were recruited into a study. I'm not sure how to do this using
the Surv() function. I would have a date of an event and then the enrolment
date would be after that. How do I put these two dates into the survival
function?
Thank

Special Functions calculations
Hello r-help,
I notice that r includes distribution, and quantile values for the
Chi-Square, F, t, and normal functions. Could someone give me some good
reference(s) for how these probabilities and quantiles are calculated.
I have already calculated the normal probability values using a Taylor
expansion (http://www.sisweb.com/math/tables.htm).
I realize these calculations must be very

q() problem and more.
Hi Rers,
W/o trying to make a long story short (I hope you read that correctly), I
have been working on a nice little R function ...
Somewhere along the line I got an error that refers to a max function in
my function (I think this is a vector vs. scalar issue):
Error in max(..., na.rm = na.rm) : invalid "mode" of argument
If that's not bad enough, even when I q() R and say

couldn't find function "..."
Hi,
R 1.0.1, on Linux(mandrake/RedHat).
I am trying to write my first function using R and I need help figuring
out the error I have indicated in the Subject line above. The purpose
of the function is not to "wow" anyone, but just to serve as a stepping
stone so that I might write more complicated functions in the future.
First I created my function named "CIfunc" and saved

Moving folder issue
Hi,
My wife who has thousands of IMAP boxes keeps getting errors when moving
mailboxes in Thunderbird in Windows. I am using the same server
(dovecot test 77) with Thunderbird in Linux and don't see the problem.
What happens is she moves the mail box and Thunderbird comes up with an
error saying it can't access the old box (odd!?). It has however
completed the move. The following

Help.start, .Renviron , and .Rprofile
Hello experienced R-ers,
I'm converting from S-Plus Win 98SE to
SuSE 8.1, R 1.62 and have run into som problems.
1) When I use help.start() netscape comes up OK and all links are accessible except "Search Engine & Keywords" : search doesn't work and the keywords from base doesn't respond either. ?command within R gets netscape running and works OK.

Difference between "R CMD build --binary" and "R CMD INSTALL --build"
As the title suggests, when building R packages on Windows, what is the
difference between:
R CMD build --binary mypack
And
R CMD INSTALL --build mypack
?? The former is suggested by my previous notes and seems to work, and
the latter is suggested by
http://www.biostat.jhsph.edu/~kbroman/Rintro/Rwinpack.html, and also
seems to work.
Thanks in advance

Subsetting a data frame with multiple values and exclusions.
Hi all,
I realise that the convention is to provide a working example of my problem
but the data are of a sensitive nature so I'm not able to do that in this
case.
I need to query a database for multiple search terms:
db <- structure(list(ind = c("ind1", "ind2", "ind3", "ind4"), test1 = c(1,
2, 1.3, 3), test2 = c(56L, 27L, 58L, 2L), test3 =

Stats question: Comparison of the same individuals during two exposure times
Hi,
I'm hoping that someone will be able to help. I would like to compare how
covariates associate with the risk of a binary outcome during two periods.
Period 1 will be non-exposure to a treatment and period 2 will be exposure
to a treatment. The same individuals will be examined in each group but I
want to be able to compare the association of certain covariates between the
two groups to

Fortran function name not in load table
Using R 2.0.1 on Windows XP, I am getting an error
msg:
Error in .Fortran("conic", nxy = nxy, npt = npt, CP =

I am wondering if there is a way to see what function
names are in the load table? Maybe the function name
has been altered?
The first thing I do in my analysis script is to load

I found following document;

Whether it is the right document for installing Emacs+ESS and R so that R can
run on Emacs?

Subsetting a data frame
Hi R users,
I really need help with subsetting data frames:
I have a large database of medical records and I want to be able to match
patterns from a list of search terms .
I've used this simplified data frame in a previous example:
db <- structure(list(ind = c("ind1", "ind2", "ind3", "ind4"), test1 = c(1,
2, 1.3, 3), test2 = c(56L, 27L, 58L,

I would like to do sequential subtractions within a group so that I know the

"IND2", "IND2", "IND3", "IND4", "IND5",

using compiled fortran in R
Hi,
I would like to use a Fortran subroutine in R. I have checked the R
docs and Newsletter,
but..., I am unable to load an object file into R.
The steps I have taken are (on Debian Linux/recent Intel-type chip ):
1. g77 -c hello.f
to create hello.o
2. mymachine> R
to start R
3. > dyn.load("hello.o")
at which point I am getting the error msg:
