make check in 1.8.1.
I just (finally!!!) got R version 1.8.1 to configure and build under
Solaris 9 (after much travail; there were funnies in my environment
variables that mucked things up, but that's another story).
Anyhow, when I ran ``make check'' I got an error right toward the
end. Looking in the directory ``tests'' I found that the error was
associated with the file reg-tests-3.R, and the

density ellipses?
Hello,
has anybody written a function to plot density ellipses (95%, 99% or
anything) in a scatterplot? I found nothing in any package, nor in the list
archives.
There does seem to be a contributed package "ellipse" for S-Plus (on
S-Archive), but it does a lot more than what I would need. Still, if anybody
ported it to R, I'd be grateful for a link. I'm a bit afraid to try the

Error message when using zero-inflated count regression model in package zicounts
I have data on number of vines per tree for ~550 trees. Over half of
the trees did not have any vines and the data is fairly skewed
(median = 0, mean = 1.158, 3rd qu. = 1.000). I am attempting to
investigate whether plot location (four sites), species (I'm using
only the four most common species), or tree dbh has a significant
influence on the number of vines per tree. When I

Help building online game
Now I just need some helpful hints from the community as to what I
could use to display a hexagonal playing field of about 40x40 hex
units. Trying to build an online strategy game with Ruby on Rails.
Working out the methodology on paper and then scaffolding some. Any
ideas which technologies I could possibly use ? other than just
simple .gifs as icons and maybe overlayed css graphics ? Would

Newbie questions -- is OCFS2 what I even want?
Dear Sirs and Madams,
I run a small visual effects production company, Hammerhead Productions.
We'd like to have an easily extensible inexpensive relatively
high-performance
storage network using open-source components. I was hoping that OCFS2
would be that system.
I have a half-dozen 2 TB fileservers I'd like the rest of the network to see
as a single 12 TB disk, with the aggregate

Hi all,
I would like to strip the R prompt from a series of code lines and copy the resulting text into a R script. For example, consider the following :
#####
str1<-"
> library(MASS)
> data(Cars93)
> attach(Cars93)
> imosaic(data.frame(AirBags,Cylinders,Origin))"
str2<-gsub('>','',str1)

This gives, as expected .?

row labels in heatmap.2(package gplots)
Dear R users,
I have a question regarding how to make row labels readable in a heat map.
I have successfully made a heat map using function "heatmap.2" in the package "gplots". However, as there are many rows in the heat map, I have difficulties labeling them (heatmap.2 provides a parameter "labRow" to label the row names, but as I have too many rows, I can not make

GGplot 2 – cannot get histogram and box plot axis to match.
Problem:
I am trying to get the histogram and box plot x axis to match. I?ve tried using the expand_limits function to make the axis match but that didn?t make the axis match. The histogram?s axis are still consistently larger than the ones for the box plot (though the function did help). Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do instead?
Background:
I am building a Shiny app that

It occurred to me over the last few days that in fact I hadn''t been a

Here I was reminded of just how open source communities are suppose to
work. Just like the early beginnings of Shoreline, Tom has brought

Using rsync to mirror a hard drive.
1) I'm a developer.
2) I use one special machine as a CVS server, generic storage ( an
electronic attic ), as a web server of online documentation ( such as
the python documentation, or SGI STL docs ).
3) I would like to add a hard drive to that system that mirrors the
system drive. Someone suggested that I use rsync for this purpose.
Called by a cron job that starts at 2:00am. I also want to

problem with aperm? (PR#568)
R version 1.0.1
OS RedHat Linux 6.1
In attempting to test for numeric vectors in a data frame, I tried:
apply(dataframe,2,is.numeric)
and found that it returned FALSE for all vectors whether they were
numeric or not. I tracked this to the fact that as.array() was
converting the data frame to character vectors, and thought I could
solve it by using array(), which preserved the mode of the

I know that there are many packages with these functions, the original idea is
collect all this functions and to make a single package, because is arduous for
the user know all this functions broadcast in many packages.
So, I think that the original packages can continue with its

Generating cpio list.
One of the things I want to do besides mirror a hard drive is
maintain an incremental backup on tape.
The way for me to do this ( of course ) is to take the
output of rsync and use it to generate a list of files for cpio.
The basic ideal is something like this
declare -i head tail
# gets the first line with total: at the begining
head=$(grep -n ^total: $log_rsync|awk -F: '{print $1}')
