how to get "lsmeans"?
Dear all,
I search the mail list about this topic and learn that no simple way is available to get "lsmeans" in R as in SAS.
Dr.John Fox and Dr.Frank E Harrell have given very useful information about "lsmeans" topic.
Dr. Frank E Harrell suggests not to think about lsmeans, just to think about what predicted values wanted

p value for coefficients in multinomial model
Dear all,
1)how can I easily get p value for the coefficients of factors in a multinomial model?
2)why the p values for "type III" test with Anova are not identical to that from SAS?
for example:
A,B and C are categorical variables,but the proportions of each level in each categorical variables are not balance. Y is a nominal variables(>=3 categories);

question regarding hypothesis testing in contingency tables
Hi R-users!
I have the following example:
a<-data.frame(cat=c(5,10,15), dog=c(5,10, 15), mouse=c(10,10,20))
b<-data.frame(cat=c(15,10,5), dog=c(15, 10, 5), mouse=c(20,10,10))
rownames(b)<-c("scared", "happy", "sad")
rownames(a)<-c("scared", "happy", "sad")
Let's say that a and b are 2 contingency tables and 5,10, 15, 20

[LLVMdev] Have llvm docs been translated into Chinese?
Hi, all:
I'm a graduate student in Harbin Engineering University, majoring
Computer Architecture,
Grade 1. And I wanna translate llvm docs into Chinese if nobody didn't do it
before.
Now I'm transplanting path profiling to llvm 2.5, just as completed in
llvm 1.5. I do some translations in order to make me deeply understand the
llvm system. On the other hand,
I think the

Linux device number extension patch
Hello,
I have a question about device number extension in "e2fsprogs-1.35".
In Linux kernel 2.6, device number is extended from 16-bit to 32-bit. All utilities and libraries should make corresponding extension for this new feature in kernel 2.6.
Following operation defines type "kdev_t" as "unsigned short" type, thus the device number has only 16-bit.

Standardized Pearson residuals (and score tests)
Hi Peter and others,
If it helps, I wrote a small function glm.scoretest() for the statmod
package on CRAN to compute score tests from glm fits. The score test for
adding a covariate, or any set of covariates, can be extracted very neatly
from the standard glm output, although you probably already know that.

Documentation Bugs (PR#1618)
Just a few documentation "bugs" that I've noticed recently.
1. In the help for (dpqr)weibull(), the formula given for the
variance of a Weibull is wrong. The correct formula is
b^2 * sqrt(gamma(1 + 2/a) - (gamma(1 + 1/a))^2))
Note that I've also changed Gamma to gamma, which I think is
preferable since this is actually the name of the gamma() function

contingency tables in R
Dear List:
Most of the analysis I do involves contingency tables.
I am migrating to R from Stata and I have a number of
questions about using contingency tables in R. I
suspect that most of the things I want to do are very
short R scripts that people on this list probably
have. I wonder if you would be willing to share them.
First, the presentation of tables by table() is not

What's ``impres''?
Dear all,
In one S+ program, I found the following code.
if (impres) cat("blah blah blah \n")
Would someone here like to tell me what's the counterpart in R to
impres in S+?
Thanks in advance!
Best wishes,

How to extract sum of particular months in a monthly data series
Dear Users,
I have a monthly data for a number of years(1960-2007) for a number of
stations and i wish to extract sesonal time-series for the months of
March-May and October-November for very station. I have read this data with
read.table in R with stations as columns and time (months) as rows. My
attempt to aggregate with the zoo package using the function as.yearqtr
failed since this sums

Sweave and Slides (Beamer)
I'm posting this for two reasons: one is to see if anyone has a better
way of solving the problem or suggestions for improving my existing
approach; and the other is to show what I'm currently doing in case
anyone else might find it useful.
The background is that I've been using Sweave for several years now to
produce class notes, and I sometimes include quite a lot of raw R input

I have daily series of data from 1962 - 2000, with the data for February
29th in leap years excluded, leaving 365 daily values for each year. I
wish to convert the daily series to monthly series. How can I do this using

How to select a whole column? Thanks!
Dear all,
I hope to remove a whole column from a data frame or matrix (> 2000
columns). All value in the column are same. The first thing is to
select those columns.
For instance, I hope to remove the V3~6 column, for all the value in
those colume is zero.

R Package Building Question
I'll start with my apologies to Martin for sending those last two of

a week or two ago and must have been lost in the ether somehow). This
is basically due to fast copy/paste in emacs without paying much
attention to what I'm doing. Lack of sleep is my excuse, but I don't
know if that goes very far with the
