hdf5
Dear R-user group
I am currently running R-0.90.1-1 for LinuxPPC on my PowerBook. Few days
ago
I have seen at CRAN that a new R-package exists, namely
R-base-with-hdf5-0.90.1-2.
Sorrowly, I could not find any explanation, what the difference to the
other package is.
I have downloaded the "Introduction to HDF5 Release 1.2" from
hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/HDF5.
It seems that HDF5 is a data

SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
Hello,
I installed 4.8-RELEASE a few weeks ago, and since I let
the effort sit stagnant for a while I decided to do the
cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV
steps to get current.
Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized:

FAQ Question 1.1; Hardware specififications
There are some minor but significant differences between the FAQ and the
User''s Manual..
1.1. What is Xen?
Xen is a virtual machine monitor (VMM) for x86-compatible computers. Xen
can securely execute multiple virtual machines, each running its own OS,
on a single physical system with close-to-native performance.
However the User''s Manual (3.0) states:

centos on 64M 350Mhz pentimum II
All,
I have an old computer 64M 350Mhz pentium II.
centos os 4.1 installs on it fine. however on boot
it says low memory and it kills certain processes. httpd or sendmail.
I have a 2GIG swap and I did a chkconfig XXX off on a few things
like xfs, nfs, httpd, kudzu.
My old 2.4 kernel used to run in 4M with a swap...
I had recompiled the kernel (took a while) to enable the cyclades module.

RE: Comparison of correlation coefficients - Details
Dear Ioannis
Thank you very much for pointing me to meta-analysis. Although it
may not solve my problem with the normalization, it gives me some
other options to display the different correlation coefficients.
One possibility is the use of Funnel plots, which are even available
in library(rmeta). Another possibility is the use of forest-plots,
as implemented in rmeta as metaplot. Sorrowly,

RE: Comparison of correlation coefficients - Details
Dear all
I apologize for cross-posting, but first it is accepted custom to
thank the repliers and give a summary, and second I have still
the feeling that this problem might be a general statistical problem
and not necessarily related to microarrays only, but I might be wrong.
First, I want to thank Robert Gentleman, Mark Kimpel and Mark Reiners
for their kind replies. Robert Gentleman kindly

Is there a multi-processor version of Xentop ?
Hi,
Can someone please tell me if there is a multiprocessor version of xentop
available or in the making ?
I notice that the current xentop does not give any information per physical
cpu on a multiprocessor machine.
Thanks and regards

[PATCH] Make save/restore of multiple VCPU contexts arch dependent
We need to look at how to support this on ia64, so how about making
this an architecture dependent feature for now? Not sure what powerpc
needs here, so I''m just lumping it into the old way bucket. Thanks,
Alex

reading non-existent files
Dear R-experts
I would like to read all files from a directory, the files have names
"myname0001.txt" etc. I paste the directory plus file names and
use "read.delim()".
My problem is that some file names are missing, so I get an error
and my program stops.
Is there a way to check for a null pointer analogous to C, so that
I can simply skip non-existent filenames?
Please do

FW: [Fwd: Re: [S] Exact p-values]
Dear all
Just for fun, I have just downloaded the paper mentioned below and checked
it with R-1.6.1.
Everything is ok with exception of Table 2b, where I get always 1 instead of
0.5:
> pbinom(1e15,2e15,0.5)
[1] 1
Which value should be correct?
Best regards

Dual CPU performance in routing
Hello
I have question, currently using linux box as router. It only route packets.
Currently there is 80k packets/sec and this cause 90% CPU usage on
Intel Celeron 3ghz CPU.
Did multiprocessor system like 2x XEON DP 3.4ghz will divide CPU
usage between 2 CPU and will allow double routing performance ?

Memory problem with 64bit R using PLASQ500k
Dear all,
First I apologize for cross-posting, but I think that this could be of
interest to BioC users, too.
For DNA copy-number analysis I have downloaded PLASQ500K from:
http://genome.dfci.harvard.edu/~tlaframb/PLASQ/
After creating sub-directories SND and STD containing 3 Sty Mapping arrays
each, I tried to compute parent-specific copy number:
