Alternative to Numerical Recipes
Some time ago I mentioned the online version of the book
"Numerical Recipes in C"
http://www.ulib.org/webRoot/Books/Numerical_Recipes/
and inadvertantly stirred up a hornets' nest.
I obtained from this book code to calculate the Incomplete beta
function. It appears in:

Cumulative Binomial Distribution, p.226,

Wanted: online Introduction to R
As a complete newcomer I am attempting to learn to use R, but am finding
it extremely difficult because I have not yet found an "Introduction to
R".
For over a week now I have monitored the R-help list, studied the R-FAQ
and related documents, downloaded and run the Windows R and looked at
the Help, downloaded early and late samples of the R-help archives, and

Dear All

of the package MASS. My question is: In the following example

Possible solution to R installation problems for Linux Mint 19 users
Hello!
After posting this a version of this on r-help, Bert Gunter kindly
suggested I should also post it here. Apologies for any cross-posting which
may occur. My thanks to Jeff Newmiller and Marc Schwartz for setting me
straight on one or two matters.
If you're a newly-minted (pun _fully_ intended) user of Linux Mint 19
("Tara") and you find you're having issues installing R

Patchy 'front-end' package installation problems using -R- 2.15.1
I think this is the fourth attempt to send this blessed message, so let's hope this gets through without any 'unprocessed' or 'ignored' in-lines on auto-reply.
I wish to report to you some strange problems I'm experiencing with installing packages directly into my -R- 2.15.1 (there is an indirect solution, which I note below). First, here's some essential information:

I'm trying to run a Windows software that needs a connection to a
database server.
But when I'm trying to log in, it gives me the error 'Check connections

Looking for this error I've found some connection issues.
Using iptraf, I've noticed that it don't even

gcc can't output executables: WNe compilation error
Hi!
I'm trying to compile the 9.16 versino of Wine.
It runs ok til it goes to the real compilation..
It just outputs 'gcc error: this program can't output executable files'
Using it for code generated by me, it works ok, and it still compiles
other programs.
What this could be?
Where wine looks for the gcc (or other C compiler)?
Thanks for the help.

locfit for R 0.99.0
I've updated the locfit library, with R 0.99.0 compatability and other
changes. The new version is propagating through CRAN, or available
from my webpage, http://cm.bell-labs.com/stat/project/locfit.
Also with regard to distribution accuracy, these might be of interest -

help with multiple IP over pppoe
I am having a little trouble getting my head around this so any help would be appreciated.
I have just signed up a new service and have been allocated the following subnet which gives me 30
usable IP addresses.
210.15.xxx.192/27
The connection is made via pppoe which works fine and the connection creates ppp0 and assigns
210.15.xxx.193.
Now I want to use 4 IP''s in a DMZ and the reset

I followed instructions given for S - by Clive Loader in his software for changepoint handling and it is his object file I made from http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/ms/departments/sia/clive/smcp.shar

SipTone II
Anybody used the above phone with asterisk
I have one working ok for calls, but having a problem with voice mail.
Using either the 'Voice mail function key' or dialing 88 (for my system)
just gets me to Call Terminated
Asterisk CLI shows the error message 'unable to get User name'
My Grandstream works ok, asking for User name, then Password
Any ideas ?
