question about anova() output
Hello, I am getting output from anova() and summary(aov()) that depends on the order of the factors in the fitted model object, and this has me baffled. I see this dependency with the data.frame below but not with an example (table 6.4) from Montgomery's DOE book. This is with R 1.3.0 on Debian GNU-Linux. This function will then calculate the absoulte difference of the original vector and the new vector and store the results omitting the difference between the value and itself. This function should

R-beta: problem installing packages
Hello, I have installed Venables & Ripley's VR_5.3pl025-1 in RHOME/library/VR and added the path to my RLIBS environmental variable. In R (0.62.2) typing "library()" lists these packages, but typing e.g. "library(nnet)" gets "Warning: Package 'nnet' contains no R code". It appears to me the code is there and I have checked the permissions and so

Debugging a program written in the R language
>From Tom: The subject is debugging a program written in the R language,under Windows. (Sorry, but I do not know either the Apple OS or *nix.) A computer program will usually not work on the first try, if only because of the risk of typos. Instead, it must be debugged. Roughly, here is the sequence: (1) One codes a program using the R language, and stores it on the hard drive, using

"clock skew" when building libraries
Hi, I am new to Linux. I recently installed R (0.64.1 using rpm for Red Hat 6.0); then I installed several libraries. When following the steps in VR complements to R, everything worked fine but I got the following messages (this happened for every single one of the libraries installed): make: *** Warning: File /usr/lib/R/etc/Makeconf' has modification time in the future

password question
Hi, I have installed Samba 2.2.8 on a Solaris 8 server and have a question about samba passwords. I know you can assign an NT server to authenticate passwords, and you can also use samba to create a smbpasswd list. My question, is can you use the existing UNIX /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow file so that we don't have to manage another list? Thanks in advance!

An lme model that works in old R.2.1.1 but not always in R.2.2.0 - why?
Following lme model runs fine in general under R.2.1.1 but only for 9 out of my 11 response variables under R.2.2.0. model for one of my response variables: lme(Yresp~F1fix,random=list(const=pdBlocked(list(~F2mix-1,~Ass:F1fix-1,~F3mix-1,~F1fix:F3mix-1,~F2mix:F3mix-1),pdClass="pdIdent"))) Yresp is my response variable, F1fix is a fixed effect factor whereas F2mix and F3mix are random

The next version of R will be released (barring force majeure) on June 20th, with beta versions available starting Monday. Please do check them on your system *before* the release this time... Apologies for the late announcement, but my department moved this week and I needed to be sure that my set-up survived the move. -pd -- O__ ---- Peter Dalgaard ?ster
