Discriminant analysis with R

I might have missed it in the help pages, but I cannot find if something
exits in a package to make discriminant analysis.
Any help, or hint about where to look for it, is welcome,

Discriminant analysis
Hi,
I'm a newbie in R and don't much aobut all the
modules and their capabilities, but I'm interested in
solving a problem about a discriminant analysis done
with SPSS tool. The thing is that I would like to make
a discrimant analysis similar to the one done with
SPSS, but I can't find the way to solve it.

logistic regression or discriminant analysis ?
Hello,
Does logistic regression really provide better results than lda or qda ?
(my purpose is not classification but highlighting of discriminant
variables).
If this is true, where could I get an R script performing stepwise logistic
regression ?

evaluation of discriminant functions+multivariate homoscedasticity
Hello,
I am switching from SPSS-Windows to R-Linux. My university is very
SPSS-oriented so maybe that's the cause of my problems. I am a beginner
in R and my assignments are SPSS-oriented, so I hope I don't annoy
anyone with my questions...
Right now I've got 2 problems:
-I have to evaluate discriminant functions I have calculated with
lda(MASS). I can't find a measure that

quadratic discriminant analysis?
Can one perform a QDA in R? I do not see it anywhere within the mda
package. Any pointers here would be appreciated.

Trouble with R CMD check
Friends,
I changed one line of a package at the source level and then rebuilt it.
When I run R CMD check, I get an error:

Axes in polymars
Hi All,
I can't quite figure out how to change the parameters of the x and y
axes when I plot a polymars object. I want to add a scatterplot of the
data points, but the polymars plot seems to automatically set the
parameters to fit the polymars line. I've tried using plot(poly,1,fig=
c(x1,x2,y1,y2)) but have no luck. Any thoughts?

need help on R
Hi,
I am working on a modeling project for PMI-Australia and interested in
using R, especially POLYMARS or PLYCLASS. I use SAS /PC on WINDOWS for
the statistical analyses including Modeling. I got R downloaded to the
system but can't figure out how to interface with SAS so that I could
use SAS datasets already in place.
Also I could not find POLYMARS on the library packages. I need to know

Start Model for POLYCLASS
Dear all,
I have a question on how to set up the starting model in POLYCLASS and
make sure the terms in the starting model retained in the final
POLYCLASS model.
In the function POLYMARS, this can be done using the STARTMODEL option.

Linear Discriminant Analysis in R
Dear R gurus,

I have a question regarding LD analysis and how to best code it up in R.
I have a file of (V52 and 671 time points across all columns) and another
file of phonetic features (each vowel is aligned with a distinct binary

Changing code within a package
I was able to hack the code in the polspline package in order to change
the plot.polymars function so that I can set the limits of my y-axis.
However, I was only able to do this by entering plot.polymars in R,
copying the code to Word, changing what I needed, and then pasting the
new code in R to redefine the polt.polymars function. I was able to
successfully change the function, but now I would

polymars package
Does the polymars library exist anymore? I see reference to it at
http://rweb.stat.umn.edu/R/doc/html/packages.html, but not on CRAN
(looked in contrib and contrib/Old).

Polymars
I've seen references to "polymars", an R implementation of Friedman's MARS
algorithm. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find this (doesn't
seem to be in the contributed packages.

Plotting Discriminants from qda
Dear R Help Members,
I am aware how to plot the LD1 vs LD2 from a lda in R, using the code:
plot(baseline.systat.hat$x, col=baseline.systat.hat$class,pch=as.numeric(baseline.systat.hat$class))
However, I need to use the quadratic discriminant function, qda due to data properties. Is there a way to obtain the same sort of plot for from a qda object (and the output of predict qda). I have not

is there a function in R to fit bivariate splines

I came across 'polymars' (POLSPLINE) and 'mars' (mda)
packages. Are these the one to use or are there other
specific commands?

Multiple Reponse CART Analysis
Dear R friends-
I'm attempting to generate a regression tree with one gradient predictor and multiple responses, trying to test if change in size (turtle.data$Clength) acts as a single predictor of ten multiple diet taxa abundances (prey.data) Neither rpart or mvpart seem to allow me to do multiple responses. (Or if they can, I'm not using the functions properly.)

Fisher's discriminant functions
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to solve a problem about how to get the
Fisher's discriminant functions of a "lda" (linear
discriminant analysis) object, I mean, the object
obtained from doing "lda(formula, data)" function of
the package MASS in R-project. This object gives me

lda discriminant functions
Hi list,
I'm looking about lda function.
I'd like to know how calcolate the value of the discriminant functions for the
