Where to override ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SQLServerAdapter?
I''m working on an existing global database running on MS SQL Server.
The appropriate primary key is uniqueidentifier, so I want to set
ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SQLServerAdapter#native_database_types[:primary_key]
= "uniqueidentifier NOT NULL newid() PRIMARY KEY".
Obviously, I need to override the native_database_types definition,
but I really don''t know where

Creating a DB in the schema import process
I''ve got a bunch of table creations in the schema.rb file and all is
well. However, I have to manually go and create the db first. Is there a
way (something like a create_database method) to get this to work?
(execute "create database ..." didn''t seem to cut it either.)

Please explain transactions within sqlserveradapter.rb ?
Hello everyone,
I am needing to resolve an error on sqlserveradapter revolving around a

Calling validates_inclusion_of out of default namespace
Hi,
I''m trying to run the "validates_inclusion_of" method in a before_save hook,
because the range is dependant on the related data. But I can''t figure out how
to call it. When calling it normally, it says it can''t find it.
I''ve tried several combinations like
"ActiveRecord::Validations.validates_inclusion_of", but I can''t seem to

Can I execute DML from within Rails?
Is it possible to execute a DML statement against a MySQL database from
within Rails? I have a table I''m using for batch processing. It needs to be
truncated to reset the primary key before each batch insert statement. I
looked at the API here:
http://api.rubyonrails.com/classes/ActiveRecord/ConnectionAdapters/DatabaseStatements.html#M000532
and didn''t notice anything that

How to get database adapter type programmatically in rails?
Hi,all
I am developing a Rails application supporting both Mysql and Oracle.
I have to use Native SQL statements some place. While we know the SQL
grammar is quite different for Mysql and Oracle, so I have to get
database adapter type programmatically in my codes to process
different native SQL statements. I haven''t found any document for this
situation. After some research, I have found

rake db:migrate "undefined method `default'" error
Hi all,
Just starting with Rails and working through the early chapters of the
Pragmatic Programmers Agile Development with Rails book (2nd addition).
When doing a "rake db:migrate" to add a column to a table I get this:
undefined method `default'' for
#<ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::MysqlAdapter:0xb7517ec8>
Any ideas?
thanks,
David

[Tip] Introspection to determine if a column may be null
I still want to get this into Rails for all connection adaptors, but
for now I''ve hacked my own addition on for just PostgreSQL.
The following code extends every Column object returned by
MyModel.columns to support a new #required? method, which indicates if
the column may or may not be null.
The following is a huge hack - suggestions on a cleaner way to add this
functionality

Mixing stored procedure call with RoR db calls in the same function gives errors
Folks,
I am using ruby 1.8.5 with rails 1.2.3 and have made changes to
mysql_adapter.rb based on recommendations made here
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/StoredProceduresInMySql to be
able to use stored procs in my code.
I have changed this call in mysql_adapter.rb
ConnectionAdapters::MysqlAdapter.new(mysql, logger, [host, username,
password, database, port, socket], config)

mangle ActiveRecord
Dear Gurus on Rails!
How do I change the behaviour of one method in
ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SchemaStatements ?
Full story:
I''d like to mangle
ActiveRecord::ConnectionAdapters::SchemaStatements
so when it creates a new sql table, it also (optionally) creates my
created_at, deleted, key_id, session_id etc columns that I use on basically
all tables.
It would not be DRY to repeat

ActiveRecord::Base.connection.create_database defaults to latin1
If you use ActiveRecord::Base.connection.create_database you''ll notice
that by default the created db will use latin1 encoding. I created a
plugin to handle different charset and collations (on top of helping
you with other boring DB tasks).
You can check out the early version of the plugin

I really need help to understand what is happening
while Rails connect to a database, (we area actually
using postgresql, so my example will be with
postgresql) What I understand is Rails is able to
connect to different DB. Actually, this is what we
want, and we have made some tests, everything is juste
fine. However, all these tests lead us to some
important questions that we did find the

Rails 2.0.2 MySQL 'year' datatype missing from ActiveRecord?
Hi all,
This is my first post to the forum, and I''ll point out right away that
I''m a noob to everything, Ruby, Rails, MySQL, etc., so I expect that I''m
wrong here, but is the ''year'' datatype missing from ActiveRecord in
2.0.2? According to my MySQL 5.0 reference manual, ''year'' is a datatype,
but when I try to run a migration that has
