morley.dat
Hi, I am sorry to say, I do not know where the 'morley.dat' is that is mentioned as the sample data for the sample session on page 80 of Appendix A in the Introduction to R book. If you could get back to me soon about that would be great! Then I can prepare my next question, steve __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Michaelson-Morley Speed of Light Data
<URL: http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/library/datasets/html/morley.html > "The classical data of Michaelson and Morley on the speed of light" Can you provide more information about the data? How were they obtained, etc.? I do not have the book "Genstat Primer" and the nearest location where it is available is University of York which is rather far from my location.

contour plot for non-linear models
Hello all, I've tried to reproduce the contour plot that appears in the book of Venables and Ripley, at page 255. Is a F-statistic surface and a confidence region for the regression parameters of a non-linear model. It uses the stormer data that are in the MASS package. I haven't been able to reproduce the plot either in R ( version 1.5 ) and S. It makes the axes and it puts the

sapply and loop
Dear all, I am doing 200 times simulation. For each time, I generate a matrix and define some function on this matrix to get a 6 dimension vector as my results. As the loop should be slow, I generate 200 matrice first, and save them into a list named ma, then I define zz<-sapply(ma, myfunction) To my surprise, It almost costs me the same time to get my results if I directly use a loop

select subsets in data frame
Dear WizaRds! A trivial question indeed on selecting subsets in data frames. I am sorry. Unfortunately, I did not find any helpful information on the introduction, searched the help archive and read in introductory books. Please help: I want to select column "KB" which is read via read.csv2 as a data.frame into d. I checked that it is indeed a data.frame object and included the

Quadratic function with interaction terms for the PLS fitting model?
poly(NIR, degree = 2) will work if NIR is a matrix, not a data.frame. The degree argument apparently *must* be explicitly named if NIR is not a numeric vector. AFAICS, this is unclear or unstated in ?poly. -- Bert Bert Gunter "The trouble with having an open mind is that people keep coming along and sticking things into it." -- Opus (aka Berkeley Breathed in his "Bloom

Lattice, combine histogram and line graph
Hello everyone, I have a simple histogram of gasoline prices going back a few years that I want to insert a line graph of consumer price index (cpi) over the histogram. I have looked through the "Lattice" book by Deepayan Sarkar but don't see anything there. How might this be done? An example would be wonderful. Current code snippet follows.
