Funny warning message
Hi Sometimes (and I haven't yet found out what causes it) I get a message: Warning: ingnored non-function "t" I think it may be either when I have done a Ctl-C to break in or I may have inadvertently named a variable after one of the many system or other functions. I have seen names other than "t". Anyway, the only way I can get rid of it is to exit and restart. I

RH5.2 bundle
Hello and Happy New R Two points: 1 Noting the existence of 0.63.2 as a tgz file on CRAN, but being careful or lazy depending on how you want to see it, I also note that the binaries for Redhat stop at 0.63.1 on RH 5.1. I recently got the RH 5.2 Power Tools where I was pleased to see R 0.62.4 included, lots of libraries including V&R. This had been compiled into an rpm - does anyone know

R and kron
I note that the CRAN at .at land still refers to 0.63.2. Is this just a typo? I don't want to download a whole lot only to find I still have it! Does 0.63.3 live elsewhere? And I note the new function kronecker - very useful but can it be applied to non-numerics as in factors, data frames etc preserving the class, levels and names? John

yum install netpbm - where?
I'm a noob with CentOS so I appreciate your valuable time and patience with my silly questions. Hopefully, I won't be a noob much longer :-) I'm using CentOS 4.4 and Plesk 8.1 on my Apache web server. I installed netPBM via yum: # yum install netpbm-devel.i386 # yum install netpbm-progs I saw no errors, and when I run "yum list installed" I see the packages. The problem

NetPBM
Greetings, I am setting up a CentOS+BlueQuartz server, replacing my Cobalt machine. On my Cobalt I had installed a set of pre-made binary's for netpbm. Using "yum search", I found and installed "netpbm.i386" but I am at a loss as to how to use the resulting libraries from my php scripts etc.? Do I need to install the netpbm-progs.i386 and netpbm-devel.i386 also?? -

nlm question
Hello again Is there any way (or an alternative non-linear minimiser) that arguments to the function called in nlm can be passed in version 0.62.4? Like (I believe) nlmin in a well known other program or optimise in R. Do we use global variables? Shurely not! \John -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read

scan error (PR#342)
It seems to me the following should work (in fact, it comes from someone's SPlus file). Instead, it reads the first 8 lines and then spits out syntax errors. Using nlines=36 works. Using nmax does not. Intel RH5.2 with R90.0. Debugging shows it must be internal. Jim junk <- scan(file="",list(i=0,r1=0,r2=0,lull="",day=""),n=5*36) 1 3 5 no 1 2 1

Missing functions in package e1071(Win*)
Hi! After unziping the CRAN file e1071.zip on my Win95 library directory, I start R and type >library(e1071) After that, help commands of the e1071 functions work (i.e., help(read.pnm), BUT some functions themselves are not available: > read.pnm Error: Object "read.pnm" not found I've looked at the file library/R/e1071 with an ascii editor and it seems like the functions

'repeated' calculation
I have pulled Jim Lindsey's repeated library and put it under the libraries directory, as are all the other toolboxes. 2 questions: Running R COMPILE *.c and *.f goes fine except that Mathlib.h cannot be found - it is not in the include library. I cannot find any other Mathlib.h on my system anywhere - presumably this is an R specific module. Was this missing from the 0.62.4 distribution -

Reading images ...
Is there a way to read a (for example) postscript (or tiff, jpg, whatever) file into R and plot it using the R fundamentals? I want to incorporate a drawing in an R plot and I can't see a way of doing this at the moment. Advice please ...
Hello R-ists Have been lurking on the list for a while, I have noticed recently two problems: 1 There seem to be problems with installing R on SuSe Linux version 5.3. As the list only gets problems and doesn't log the successes, has anyone successfully loaded R on SuSe 5.3? Is this a feature of 0.62.3 only or do the problems apply also to earlier versions. 2 There was a list of

Can't install "e1071"
I observed the same behavior as Edward this morning with R-1.2.2 on Red Hat Linux 7.0. There appears to be a problem with the library in netpbm-9.5-5, even after hunting down the missing shhopt.h that pbmplus.h is looking for. I worked around the problem by compiling e1071 without pbm support (moved pbm.c to pbm.c.bak). Matt Matthew R. Nelson, Ph.D. Director, Information Systems Esperion

installing online help (PR#423)
When I attempt to install the online help for R.99 on Intel RH5.2, I get the following message Substitution loop at /usr/local/src/R/etc/Rdconvlib.pl line 1589, <rdfile> chunk 171 and it stops after a few files. Each time I rerun it, it gets a bit further and gives a different number at the end. I commented out the line 1589 and it works.
