how to change the history size in R
I would like to make readline's command history in R-0.63.1
substantially larger than it is by default (seems like around only 50
commands). How do I change the size?
Thanks!

Teleport 1.0.1
I just released the Teleport gem - easy Ubuntu server setup via
teleportation. Teleport sets up servers by "teleporting" to the machine
and running itself there. It installs Ruby, then follows the
instructions laid out in your Telfile to customize the server.
https://github.com/rglabs/teleport
The role/server setup is similar to Capistrano, though the syntax is
slightly different. You

problem using MASS corresp and mca functions
Hello,
I'm an absolute beginner with R and neophite in data analysis, so please bear
with me if I ask stupid question.
I'm trying to do a correspondence analysis using R and MASS corresp function,
but I get an error message which I'm unable to interpret:
> data(weblog)
> library(MASS)
> corresp(~ url + fromurl, data=weblog)

File associations in Wine
Hi,
How to get file associations to work from wine/win applications?
Have got Teleport Pro (Web spider) to work and files saved successfully.
The files are displayed within Teleport (*.htm, *.html, *.txt etc) but
when I click on the files to open them the links to the Linux programs
associated with these files are obviously not there.
How can these associations be fixed?
Best regards,

Nested ANOVA with covariate using Type III sums of squares in R
Hello,
I have been trying to get an ANOVA table for a linear model containing a
single nested factor, two fixed factors and a covariate:
carbonmean<-lm(C.Mean~ Mean.richness + Diversity + Zoop + Diversity/Phyto
+ Zoop*Diversity/Phyto)
where, Mean.richness is a covariate, Zoop is a categorical variable (the
species), Diversity is a categorical variable (Low or High), and Phyto

Data bug that read.csv doesn't like
Hello,
I have a bug in my data that read.csv doesn't like, but _only_ when
specifying "na.strings = 'missing'". If I delete the offending Chinese
characters the problem goes away as well. I'm satisfied that the
problems with this data file are fixed, but is there anything I can to
do avoid this in the future (other than avoiding Chinese characters).
Any ideas as

lme (weights) and glht
Dear R members,
I tried to fit an lme model and to use the glht function of multcomp.
However, the glht function gives me some errors when using
weights=varPower().
The glht error makes sense as glht needs factor levels and the model
works fine without weights=. Does anyone know a solution so I do not
have to change the lme model?
Thanks

"normal probability plot" with a percentile scale?
I'd like to generate some plots like you'd see on the old "normal
probability graph paper", like the first plot in:
<http://www.itl.nist.gov/div898/handbook/eda/section3/normprpl.htm>
except the horizontal scale would have 1%, 5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 95%,
99%, or similar quantiles, with associated tick/grid lines. [still
hunting around for a good example...] something like

lme weights glht
Dear R-user
I used lme to fit a linear mixed model inlcuding weights=varPower().
Additionally I wanted to use glht to calculate Tukey-Kramer multiple

cross-platform code: windows or gnu/linux?
I am writing some R code that generates some figures. I am primarily
developing on GNU/Linux, but will ultimately run the code on Windows
in order to get WMF files I can integrate in an existing document.
The win.metafile() function, of course, doesn't exist in the GNU/Linux
version of R. I am contemplating writing an abstraction layer that
runs the right thing, but I need to know how the

coercing "numeric" components of data frame to "factor" or "ordered"?
I am getting ready to load a bunch of data into R. The data is all
numeric, but some of the numbers are integer codes representing
non-numeric semantics. What is the best way to "fix" the data frames
so that these compenents are recognized as "factors" or "ordered", as
appropriate?
Can I "assign" to some attribute of the data frame component, like the

Neophyte needs help!
Hi All,
Real neophyte here, to both backgroundrb and ruby/rails in general.
(Hey, we''ve all got to start somewhere, right!) :)
I''ve just been playing around with the example code at
http://backgroundrb.rubyforge.org/ , and trying to get all
the pieces to work (btw, I''m using version 0.2.1).
I did a ''generate worker example'', which created an

formula parsing, using parts ...
I am writing a little abstraction for a series of tests. For example,
I am running an anova and kruskal.test on a one-factor model. That
isn't a particular problem, I have an interface like:
my.function <- function(model,data) {
print(deparse(substitute(data)))
a <- anova(lm(formula,data))
print(a)
if(a$"Pr(>F)"[1] < 0.05) {
pairwise.t.test(???)

matrix for diversity functions?
Hi,
I have a small simple data frame (attached) - to compare diversity of
insects encountered in disturbed and unditurbed site. What i have is
the count of insects - the total number of times they were encountered
over 30 monitoring slots.
Can someone please check for me to make sure how the 'community data
matrix' for the diversity function needs to be oriented so that i'm

Version 2.12.0 exe file
I have R version 2.9.1 on my computer and the anlaysis is not working
because I need to update to R version 2.12.0 the latest release.
The person incharge of IT tried to download R version 2.12.0 but .exe file referenced in install isn't
there - What might we be doing wrong? We have downloaded as tar.gz,
uncompress then look for .exe file but not present.
Many thanks,

vegan rda na adaptation
Dear R users,
I know, the topic is more related to the r-sig-ecology. I decided to
post it to the r-help as some specific topics of my question deals
with NA-values and RDA (R vegan) and an adaptated RDA code due to a
specific study design (including a second matrix).
I am calculating a RDA for a dependent matrix (different variables for
tree performance) and different explanatory
