Help with installing add-on packages
Dear R users.
Recently I wanted to update my R distribution to the current one (R-2.7.1). I am running a Fedora core 8 distirbution. The installation went fine, but when I tried to add some additional packages the majority made an exit with an error. Only a few least demanding (e.g. RColorBrewer) managed to get through the installation process.
What happened between the versions 2.6.x and 2.7.x

Problem installing packages in newer versions of R
Dear all,
I was wandering what could be wrong with my system (regularly updated Fedora core 8) so that installing packages does not succeed with almost every package. I follow the procedure specified in the help file R-admin section 6.3. This is not a feature new to the current version but happened (to me) in the previous version as well. Additionally R-help html pages try to follow wrong links

It seems my gcc compiler and fortran do not talk to each other.
Thanks in advance for any help,

akima 0.4-5, interpp() bug = COMMON block problem
Hi,
I'm currently hunting a bug in the akima library, especially in the code
behind the interpp.old function (bi-variate linear interpolation).
It is based on a triangulation algorithm, interpolation at a given point
needs to know the triangle which contains this point, then the
interpolation is a straightforward calculation based on the three
vertexes.
The problem is: Sometimes the triangle

SuSe does not like more.
In R "help(package=pkg)" or "library(help=pkg)" seems to behave
like 'more' or 'less' or something that looks like one of these.
Under RedHat this behaves normally: at the end of help it reverts
automatically to the R prompt '>'.
In SuSe it doesn't jump back to the prompt automatically:
I see something like "line 1/28 (end)" and then I

R --gnome segfaults on RH 6.0 with R-0.65.0
Have just compiled and installed R-65.0 on RH 6.0 with all the latest
updates for RH and Gnome (including `libglade-0.3-1.i386.rpm' and
`libglade-devel-0.3-1.i386.rpm' from RH ftp).
R.X11 works OK.
But when I try `R --gnome' I get a segmentation fault/core dump
with the messages:
Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkfont.c: line 174 (gdk_font_id): assertion `font

R-beta: compiling R-0.62.3 on SuSe Linux
On my RedHat 5.1 machine at the office I am happily using R
installed from Martyn Plummer's RPM's of R-62.3 for RH 5.1
At home I have SuSe Linux 5.3 on my PC and as RH 5.1 is libc6
based and SuSe 5.3 is still libc5 based the RH 5.1 RPM's do
not install and work on SuSe (even though they have a test
version of glibc).
So I downloaded R-0.62.3.tgz from www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R and

R-beta: Re: Choice of Linux
Chris,
I can provide some personal experience, in that RedHat Linux has not
only operated well, and is remarkably easy to set up, but seems to work
as well as any Linux distribution with R. The default X-Windows setup
looks pretty similar to MS Windows, which may make the transition
easier. In fact, it was the on/off - finally off attitude of MathSoft
toward producing a Linux version of S-Plus

R-beta: loading C binaries
Can anybody explain what is happening?
I am using RedHat Linux 5.0 with the latest Martyn Plummer RPM's installed,
both at home and at the office.
At home "survival4" is (still) working OK.
At the office all the components ('survfit', 'survdiff', 'coxph, etc..) stop
with an error message that they can't 'find' or 'load' the C binaries:

AKIMA: z values at a set coordinate
Dear all.
I am using the akima function to produce 3d contour plots using interp based
on irregular data.
using the eg in the akima manual

data(akima)
plot(y ~ x, data = akima, main = "akima example data")
with(akima, text(x, y, formatC(z,dig=2), adj = -0.1))

sp package coordinates and gridded problems with as.list()
Dear All I hope that someone can help.
I am working with sp pakage and akima

coordinates with z values I will call these data frames for the sake of this
example akima

akima interp results to zero with less than 10 values
The akima package has a problematic license (it doesn't allow commercial
use), so it's been recommended that people use the interp package
instead. When I use interp::interp instead of akima::interp, I get
reasonable output from your example.
So that's another reason to drop akima...

akima interp results to zero with less than 10 values
Dear all
I have this table

mat <- structure(c(2, 16, 9, 2, 16, 1, 1, 4, 7, 7, 44.52, 42.8, 43.54,
40.26, 40.09), dim = c(5L, 3L))
And I want to calculate result for contour or image plots as I did few years
ago.
However interp does not compute the z values and gives me zeros in z matrix.

Hello,
Thought you might be interested. I tried to load the package tripack
needed by the sgeostat package. After some careful searching, three packages
were
found which had the same error. Here is the output.
