R-beta: mlbench-0.1 --- machine learning benchmark problems
I've made a package from some benchmark datasets for use with R and
uploaded it to CRAN.
Here's the Index entry:
mlbench-0.1.tar.gz:
A collection of artificial and real-world machine learning
benchmark problems, including, e.g., the boston housing
data from the UCI repository.

R-beta: scripting with R?
I've been playing with R for a while using emacs ESS. I've started to
like it a
lot ( the beautiful S language was unknown to me before I dumped into R)
I want to make some scripts to automate the display of some statistics
on web pages. I started to look for ways of using R in a scripting
environment
but I could not find information on this. Is there a way to call R with
command prompt

R-alpha: help files of base package
[this message bounced, because it had 'help'
at beginning of Subject. Now sent as "approved". -- MM]
I'm not happy at all with the html and latex version of the base help
files, because presenting (currently) 320 files in alphabetic order is
not a good way for unexperienced users.
I'm thinking about introducing a new command like \category or
whatever to split the

HTML-documentaion on NT
Once you hae in stalled Guido's NT port of R it
is nice and easy to install the add-on packages too.
However, it would be nice to have links to the documentation
of the functions in all the packages from the "All Installed
Functions" html-page, and not have to go through each of
the packages.
Is there a utility somewhere to do this?

R-beta: multiv package from CRAN
Hallo Friedrich,
I have read your announcement, downloaded and installed it in R-0.61.3.
But now I have problems :)

R-beta: package ported from S to R
Hello,
I'm trying to port the S package "print.display" to R. The porting
procedure seemed to work, but when I say library(print.display) or
library("print.display"), then none of the functions is available. May
be, it's because of the dot in the package name?
What could have happened?
The help information is available.
BTW: How can I look up wether the package is

R-alpha: CRAN source/contrib
I've put all ``current'' add-on packages into CRAN's source/contrib tree
and created an INDEX file (attached below). As you can see, currently
we have

(Yes, e1071 and jpn are new ... more on the latter in a later mail.)
In the near future, I am hoping for the following:

R-alpha: RData in batch
Just a word to mention that I have lost 2 hours yesterday to find out why
R refused to use a function from a package calling C-code.
R invariably answered that the C code was not in the load table (something
like this). I have tried everything (or nearly) to solve my problem
knowing that this same package used to work on my computer at the
university.
Finally, I found out that running the same

R-beta: multiple binary types
I've modified the "$RHOME/bin/R" and "$RHOME/cmd/filename" so that you
can use the same directories for multiple machines. That is, machines
running various flavors of UNIX can access the same directories.
The modified structure adds the directories
$RHOME/bin/$OSTYPE/
$RHOME/lib/$OSTYPE/
to hold the machine specific binaries.
For instance, here the $RHOME directory

Using zip format for help pages, examples, etc.
At the Vienna meeting we discussed the problems encountered on some
operating systems when storing many small files in a directory. In
particular the directories $RHOME/library/base/help/,
$RHOME/library/base/R-ex/, and $RHOME/library/base/data/ can take up
an enormous amount of storage on the Macintosh or on Windows systems
because the minimum amount of storage per distinct file is quite
large.

R-beta: Submissions to CRAN
As mentioned earlier I want to decentralize the package descriptions
of all contributed packages:
Please make sure to include a file called DESCRIPTION in every package
which looks like:
