WISHLIST: Be able to timeout readline()/stdin via setTimeLimit in all consoles
Hi. WISHLIST: Regardless on console, I'd like to be able to timeout a call to readline()/file("stdin", blocking=TRUE) via setTimeLimit. OBSERVATION: On Windows Rterm as well as plain R on Linux, setTimeLimit() does not momentarily interrupt from stdin, but only after hitting RETURN. A few examples: timeout00 <- function() { setTimeLimit(elapsed=5); Sys.sleep(10); }

readline() (PR#147)
Dear R developers, I have found the following bug with readline() in R 0.63.3: if you execute the menu-function and then the readline() function, then readline() prompts "Selection:" > a <- readline() hello > a [1] "hallo" > a <- menu(c("a", "b"), title="bitte:") bitte: 1:a 2:b Selection: 2 > a <- readline() Selection:

bug in menu, readline
Neither do_menu nor do_readln (in src/main/scan.c) call the function InitConsoleGetchar. They need to do this to reset ConsolePrompt. If you use "scan" to read in data from the terminal, then ConsolePrompt is set to "n:" for some integer n and this prompt makes an unwelcome appearance when you use the "menu" or "readline" functions. Incidentally, could we

R-beta: New version 0.61.1
The R core team proudly presents: \||||||||/ -R 0.61.1- /||||||||\ I've just rolled together a new patch release. It's available from the Auckland repository now, but please do not get it from there unless you are in a terrible hurry. It should find its way to the main CRAN site in Vienna this evening and then to the rest of the CRAN sites. There's also a

getGraphicsEvent() questions, minor feature/tweak request, and patch(es).
Hey all, new R user and first timer here. I've been using getGraphicsEvent() on an X11-Xlib device in a kind of interactive loop, and would like to be able to stop it from printing newlines in the console when I don't actually want to print a prompt. Even an empty "" value still causes a newline right now. To not break any code that depends on this behavior, I figured getting

Problems with embedded R, ReplDLL
Along with getting pqR to work on Windows, I've also been testing it in the context of embedded R, and in the process have found some problems with the examples given of embedded R use. One problem can be seen in R_ReplDLLinit, in src/main/main.c: void R_ReplDLLinit(void) { SETJMP(R_Toplevel.cjmpbuf); R_GlobalContext = R_ToplevelContext = R_SessionContext = &R_Toplevel;

Samba 1.9.17 fails to truncate share mode file (fwd)
Thank you for the information that you have passed on to me. My own research has found that ftruncate is quite happy to set a file to the same size that it is already, so something else must be causing the problem. The comment before the ftruncate in set_share_mode says the file is being truncated just for safety, so normally it is probably not necessary to truncate the file. Regards, Tim >

[PATCH 20/21] i386 Ldt cleanups 3
Big cleanup of LDT code. This code has very little type checking and is not frequently used, so I audited the code, added type checking and size optimizations to generate smaller assembly code. I changed the ldt count to be in pages, and converted the char * ldt into a desc_struct. Signed-off-by: Zachary Amsden <zach@vmware.com> Index: linux-2.6.14-zach-work/arch/i386/kernel/ldt.c

R-beta: Dec alpha
R ran find on our Sun until it was stolen. I have now set up R on one of our Dec Alphas OSF1 V4.0 386. R-0.49 configures builds and runs fine except that the glm command crashes R. R-0.60.1 configures builds and runs until a cis entered. I think the problem is the floating point conventions but before I get in over my head a question Has anyone used glm successfully on Alphas OSF1 V4.0 386?

Irix 6.5: > is.na(c(1,NA)) #> FALSE FALSE
R 0.63.2, compiled using SGI cc and f90 on Irix 6.5 gives: > is.na(NA) [1] TRUE # OK > is.na(c(1,NA)) [1] FALSE FALSE # expected FALSE TRUE > is.nan(NaN) [1] FALSE # expected TRUE > is.nan(1/0) [1] FALSE # ditto The above functions work correctly for R compiled with gcc and g77 on an Irix 6.2 system. Missing tick marks bug on alpha solved
On some systems (alpha), tick marks don't appear on plots. The easiest way to see the problem is something like: > plot(0:1,axes=FALSE) > axis(1,1:2) The problem is in X11_Line(...) from .../src/unix/devX11.c, which is so short I've included the whole function below: static void X11_Line(double x1, double y1, double x2, double y2, int coords, DevDesc *dd) {

OpenSSH 2.2.0p1 port to QNX 4
Dear OpenSSH porting developers, finally I succeded in porting OpenSSH to QNX 4. To get things going I had to take over some definitions from Linux' include files, since they are not available under QNX (e.g. the howmany makro, NFDBITS, the lastlog structure). With this email I send a patch with all my changes as well as the file "qnx-term.h" which I created because IXANY and

HP-UX 9 problems (hangs on logout; tty isn't sane)
I'm trying to get OpenSSH 2.5.2p2 to run on HP-UX 9.05. I've had some decent results, but I'm also seeing some problems. I'm using the EGD (I configured with --with-prngd-socket=/tmp/entropy). * Compiling required some changes, which I've attached. Two of the changes are "hackish", and not at all suited to inclusion in the source tree, but they might point

R-beta: RPM and .deb packages for R-0.61
This may have been announced before but there are now both Debian GNU/Linux and RedHat Linux packages for R-0.61 on the CRAN archive sites. The master site for CRAN is http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R/ That site provide a list of available mirror sites. Within the CRAN archive sites the pre-compiled packages for Linux are located in the bin/i386-linux directory. Under RedHat you can install

R-beta: bug in hist() (0.60/0.61)
I discovered a bug in hist(). Try the following: x<-c(-5,-4,-4,-4,-3,-3,-3,-3,-2,-2,0,0,0,0,1,1,1,3,3,5,6) # Note that sum(x)<0: sum(x) # [1] -13 hist(x) # looks ok hist(x,freq=F) # negative bars !! # and finally this gives not 1: sum(hist(x,plot=F)$rel.freqs) # [1] -0.8076923 The reason is, that "sum(x)" is used instead of "length(x)" in the following line near

Debian package for R-0.61 uploaded
I have uploaded a Debian package r-base_0.61.0-2_i386.deb to the incoming directory at ftp.ci.tuwien.ac.at. This package is built against libc5, not libc6. Turns out that was a bit more complicated than I had hoped. I have also created an RPM file for the same binary distribution and will upload that shortly as r-base-0.61.0-2.i386.rpm. I enclose some information regarding the two packaged
