You can use ESS and either XEmacs 21.0 (currently wrapping up beta) or
NTEmacs, or Emacs(FSF) to edit files.
IF the mingwin(?) or cygwin versions of R allow for command-line

RE: Gnuserv, NTEmacs, Windows 2000 and R
The following becomes more and more a topic for an R mailing list,
possibly R-devel.
R for Windows crashes are important and should be discussed and debugged
with the experts -- which are not reading ESS-help AFAIK.

rterm not shutting down from ESS on Win32/could we help?
Hi to all who suffer from rterm not shutting down in xemacs/ESS on windows NT or 2000. Also hi to those who could eventually help. Here is some more information which could help and some ENCOURAGEMENT to contribute to a solution.
1. It may be an xemacs problem but it is more likely an interaction between rterm/comint/and xemacs. In fact, the problem started occurring around version R 1.6.0. I

rterm not shutting down from ESS on Win32
I've been having problems with Rterm.exe not shutting down when I exit an R
(1.7.0 and 1.7.1) session from within emacs when using ESS. I've just
upgraded to 5.1.24 and still have the same problems. I'm running ntemacs and
winxp. I don't recall having these troubles with version 1.6.2 of R.
Jeff.

Installing RXlisp
Dear R users,
I was trying to install the package RXLisp by Duncan Temple Lang on a MDK
9.1 Linux machine running R 1.8.0 installed from a RPM.
Unfortunately I had a problem loading the shared library into R. Since
I'm a Linux newbie I was not able to solve the problem. Maybe some of
you can help me.
First of all I downloaded the source archive for Xlisp-Stat and
for the RXlisp package.

need help installing ESS on Win95
Has anyone successfully installed ESS on Win95?
I have emacs version 19.34.6 and R version 0.63.3.
The ESS README and Makefiles seem pretty Unix-specific.

exact range of axes in plots
Hello. I was wondering how one can find the exact values of the range of
an axis within a plot. In xlispstat it was (send plot :range 0). Thanks much,

Strange "no-echo" in place of "slave"
SVN revision replaces "slave" with "no-echo" in R devel.
In each of the following, "no-echo" is rather strange to me.
- src/gnuwin32/README.Rterm
3) As a no-echo process for ESS mode in NTEmacs with flag --ess.
- src/library/grDevices/src/qdCocoa.m
/* the no-echo thread work until this is NO */

Cyber Cafe Pro on Linux
Hi,
I'm running an internet cafe using Cyber Cafe Pro software. This software is design soley for Windows platforms. We're constantly experiencing problems with Windows with regards to viruses and stability issues. Recently, we lost all our data and had to re-install.
May you please help us in flawlessly porting this application so that it can run on Linux both on the server and client

[Andreas Krause <Andreas.Krause@genedata.com>] Re: splus shell escapes
Anyone know what the problem is with IRIX 6.5 ? (esp if there is a
solution?). Looks like the built-in math stuff is masking definitions
from R source.
(passing this along for a friend).

off topic: how is xlispstat used in the industry?
I am sorry for this off-topic question.
Just curious how xlispstat is used in the industry and what's it strengthen
compared with other computing languages such as R or matlab?
Thanks a lot.

ESS 5.2.7 released
Dear ESS users, {BCC'ed to RPM and Debian maintainers of ESS}
We have now released ESS 5.2.7. This is a bug fix release against 5.2.6
where - the new UTF-8 "support" gave problems for Xemacs, and
- accidentally, 'auto-fill-mode' was activated for *.R buffers
with a few new features, see "New Features" below , notably some
extended Sweave supported,

graphics library fltk
we still do not have dynamic graphics in R natively.
i just found out about a widget library called fltk
info is at
www.fltk.org
it has all the stuff r currently can do only through tcl/tk or
(as i do it) excel: sliders, knobs, spinners and so on.
it is multiplatform, there are production versions for
unixen and windows, and there is a beta for macs.
this could be a way of getting some of

3D plotting in R
A student is trying to cluster some data. Tree-building things seem to
be pretty hopeless (we've tried most of the ones in R, I think).
Multi-dimensional scaling produces somewhat tantalising results:
things do clump together somewhat, but the clusters overlap a lot.
I was wondering if these was an artefact of squeezing it down to 2D,
and whether 3D might be better. So

Strange "no-echo" in place of "slave"
The first of Suharno's examples can be viewed that way, because R under ESS is not a "slave" in the technical sense, just a situation where you do not want keyboard input to be echoed. "Non-echoing" might have been better language though.
The 2nd example really is of the master/slave variety, and to my knowledge nothing to do with echoing, so looks like a

Forcing plots to "adjust-to-data"
Hello. In messing around with some of the graphical parameters using the
par() function (setting margins for example), I've noticed that the plot
doesn't always immediately respond to changes...for example when lines are
added, if they are out of the range you need to physically find out what
the new max range has to be. Is there a companion function in R to the
xlispstat function

Kodi crashes when trying to browse network

It seems to be a Kodi CMake issue, but I would argue Samba or trousers need to
change the name of "read_data" to something more unique if it is going to be an
exported shared symbol.
Kodi requires libmicrohttpd. The libmicrohttpd library
