Linux on an ancient Macintosh G5?
Has anyone experienced the conversion of the aluminum chassis Mac G5 to a
Linux box? Curious in Pennsylvania.
I need to obtain the power cable somewhere to try it.
It is a 64-bit monster, so seems like it is worth trying if I can
find the weird cable it needs. No luck to date regarding the cable.
Thanks.

problems with auto mounted share from Macintosh server on SuSE Linux
I recently switched from using Redhat Linux 9 to SuSE 9.2 Pro and am
having problems with an auto mounted share served from a Macintosh
running Mac OS 10.3.6. I can read from the share without problems.
However, writing to it is a different story.
All the files/folders on the share are owned by janee in the group
janee and have rw owner and group permissions. I've tried playing with

Samba vs. Macintosh
Hello,
do you know about that kind of problem:
I've tried to connect an apple macintosh os x (10.2.4) to my linux
samba-server (take a look to my smb.conf in the attachement),
but i've only got a connection to my homedirectory. If I tried to connect to
my other shares, i got only the error message 5023.
Do you may know that problem????
It would be very nice to here from you..

Vorbis On Macintosh
I doubt that their has been any development work on bringing vorbis to
the Mac. I am trying to do just that.
I want to know whether you think I should try to port it using the
various components tht are being used to bring vorbis to Be and others
OR if i should wait till September when the public beta of Mac Os X (
which is based on Unix). I have been told that unix stuff will be fairly

R-beta: which Linux - again
Dear all,
I think this question has been raised very recently but I think I didn't
see repsonses on the list nor did I find the thread in the archives. (If
it is there I'd appreciate directions ...)
I am about to install Linux on a Compaq notebook. One important thing I
want to do is being able to run R. I have fiddled with different
distributions of Linux (LST, SuSE, Debian) and can

Macintosh support (again)
In order to compile the latest Vorbis library on the Macintosh, the
change appended to this message needs to be made to os_types.h.in.
Then, anyone who wants to actually build it must first copy
os_types.h.in to os_types.h by hand, since MacOS does not include a
command line and thus cannot run configure.
It really bugs me that the whole "platforms which don't support

Macintosh binaries; was: Rcmdr and Macintosh
I am a Windows user and trying to make life easier for my Mac-using students. After investigating the Mac situation more, it appears that the key to easy use is having precompiled binaries. However the packages I am interested in (Rcmdr and its required package, car) do not have one. I do not have easy access to a Mac, so I have a plea to Macintosh users: could someone please create them if it is

This was ``accidentally'' only sent to me.
But I think the question (and possibly answers) should be relevant to much

I am running linuxppc 2.1.128 on a pmac 8500/200 604e.

The compiler is egcs 102 pre and binutils 2.9.1.0.15.
When attempting to load modreg with the library command
the following error is returned.

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,

that files in these rpms conflict with files from R-base 1.01-1.

Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail.
I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new
hardware.
The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily.
We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up
the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream'
nature of files from a

[LLVMdev] Dynamically adding exception frames in the macintosh OS X
Hi
I am porting a JIT compiler to the Macintosh. This software runs under
windows and Linux. In both systems there is an interface for adding
exception frames dynamically when you add code compiled on the fly.
Under linux the (not documented) gcc function __register_frame_info does
the trick. Under windows, Microsoft has added an official API for this,
that works without problems.
The
