what updates /etc/localtime?
I see in CentOS 7 that /etc/localtime is a symlink (which seems sensible...) but in earlier versions it is a copy of some file from under /usr/share/zoneinfo. rpm -q --scripts tzdata does not show any postinstall script, so in the non-symlink versions, how does the copied /etc/localtime file get updated with new zone data? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

New Standard/Daylight time-change dates in rhel4u2 butnot centos4.2?
Which is why I always symlink /etc/localtime Not only does it solve these issues, but it makes it very clear which timezone is selected! -----Original Message----- From: centos-bounces at centos.org [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org] On Behalf Of Aleksandar Milivojevic Sent: Monday, November 07, 2005 2:45 PM To: centos at centos.org Subject: Re: [CentOS] New Standard/Daylight time-change

Why tzdata-2007h [RHEA-2007:0928-05] only for CentOS 2?
I might be stupid and ask an idiot or offensive question, but here it is: "Why was tzdata-2007h [RHEA-2007:0928-05] only released for CentOS 2, when upstream has released it for all the versions?" The guys from X/OS have released it for 5.0 along with the other updates (on Oct. 9). Are the "enhancements"... "not important" as long as they're not "security

Indiana timezone changing
I have a couple questions... I am in Indiana and our time zone is changing. I used to choose America/Indiana/Indianapolis as the zone and we are changing to Eastern. Question 1) Is there a command line only way to change my timezone? I dont have access to X to run system-config-time. Doing a "system-config-time --help" or "system-config-time -h" did not give any information.

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' , but received a 2006a update of the rpm. Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything. Thanks Steve Campbell campbell at cnpapers.com Charleston Newspapers

tzdata, Greenwich zone: URGENT!
Hi! It appears that there have been some changes to tzdata recently. We run an application that needs the server to stay at GMT. Previously, we used the Casablanca timezone but now there seems to be a 1 hour difference to GMT. I checked the London zone and they seem to change time too. I tried to change the zone to GMT with system-config-date (i'm using command line remotely) but

New Standard/Daylight time-change dates in rhel4u2 but not centos4.2?
>From a login on a machine with rhel4u2 I can execute the following commands and get the indicated output: date --date="Mar 25 15:00:00 UTC 2006" Sat Mar 25 10:00:00 EST 2006 date --date="Mar 25 15:00:00 UTC 2007" Sun Mar 25 11:00:00 EDT 2007 As you can see, the output differs for 2006 and 2007. That indicates that rhel4u2 includes changes required by the

DST and VM timestamp
Who is tired of dealing with DST changes? I have asterisk running on FC4, FC4 has been patched and shows the correct MDT timezone and time. Email notifications of voicemail show the message time an hour early (standard time, not daylight). This si the time in the message body, not the email delivery time, so it is coming form asterisk wrong. I did a reload after correcting the

Timezone conversion on Ubuntu 20.04
Hi all, I am testing R 4.0 and ran into an issue with timezones on Ubuntu Focal: converting a timestamp to another timezone results in NA: as.POSIXct(as.POSIXlt(Sys.time(), tz = "CET"), tz = "EST") This only happens on Ubuntu Focal, it seems to work fine on Ubuntu Bionic. I am the standard ubuntu docker image icw/ r-base from Dirk's ppa:edd/r-4.0 on both systems. Am I

php53 and pear
Hi all We require some packages installed through pecl (apc and memcache) which we have done on CentOS 5.5 by installing php 5.2 from testing and also installing php-devel and php-pear to much success! We would like to move to php 5.3 after 5.6 comes out but I note that there is no specific php53-pear package in testing and the php-pear srpm in the 5server directory on ftp rc com seems to be

After Update Member Server not working
Greetings, Tim! > I hate this time change twice a year. Really! Should be banned and sent to the moon. Install proper tzdata. I don't see an issue. It is even better on Linux. Win7 still don't have the correct timezone data for Russia, and that is over half a year after the decree. -- With best regards, Andrey Repin Thursday, April 9, 2015 19:17:39 Sorry for my terrible english...

R 2.5.0 in Debian unstable
I just uploaded R 2.5.0 to Debian's unstable distribution. As Peter's announcement says, it now contains two new packages'rcompgen' and 'codetools'. About two or three weeks ago, I also packaged these, just like other 'recommended' packages as r-cran-rcompgen and r-cran-codetools. However, as "new" packages, they are still in the NEW queue awaiting

tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow. I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct. This was mostly a question about why yum

Preventing hour-long fsck on ext3-filesystem
Hi! I'm justing in the process of setting up a new fileserver for our company. I'm installing CentOS 5.3 (64 bit) on it. One of the "problems" with it is that it has a 3.5TB filesystem for the user data which I formatted during setup as an ext3. Now my experience with our current fileserver is that a 0.5TB ext3 filesystem needs approx half an hour to complete (and kicks in
