Tips and tricks : create image file from CD/DVD?
Should the wiki have a Tips and Tricks page for creating a ISO file from a
CD or DVD?
I realize this information is everywhere. Including
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/s1-steps-network-installs-ppc.html
I don't, however, find it on the wiki...
Is it within the scope of the wiki project to have it somewhere?

Install (not boot) from USB drive?
Is it possible to install directly from a DVD iso image downloaded to a
USB external drive as a file on a FAT filesystem? That is, if I burn
the boot.iso on a CD and boot it, is there any way to mount the USB
drive and install from the DVD image file there (some target machines
don't have a DVD drive).

New Grub Installation How-To
Hello:
I've written a Grub Installation How-To, and I'd like to post at least a
draft version.
The information presently at
http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/InstallFromGRUB is somewhat
related, but my How-To is much more detailed.
The information at "Tips and Tricks: Installation Tips" is most closely
related to what I prepared, so I suggest that a new page

CentOS-5.5 Live CD & netinstall
According to <http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOSLiveCD5.5>
"There is a "Network Install" option on the Live CD
that is the same as our CentOS-5.5-i386-netinstall ISO".
I've looked quite carefully at my CentOS-5.5 Live CD (on a USB stick),
and I don't see a Network Install option anywhere.
Could some kind soul explain where it can be found,

Kickstart setup
Is there a way to use kickstart to boot a machine into a manual setup
process? Basically what I'm getting to is this, the machine doesn't not
have a CD drive in it (nor can I add one), but I can boot it via kickstart.
The install media is on the network. What I'd like to do is boot this
machine up and rather than have kickstart do everything for me as far as
installing the OS and

GRUB woes: GRUB Hard Disk Error
Hello all,
I am attempting to install CentOS 5.5 on a recently donated home server (was
Windows). I've tried installing twice; first, separating /boot, swap, /,
/var, /usr and /home into different partitions, the second time choosing
default layout. Both times have resulted in "GRUB Hard Disk Error" upon
boot.
About the hard disk, it is a Seagate SATA drive. I do not have another

CentOS4 upgradeany hangs while loading sata_via
Hi,
I have a machine running under CentOS 3.4 which I want to upgrade to
CentOS 4. I booted using the CentOS 4 CD1 using "linux upgradeany".
Problem is that loading sata_via never terminates. Ismod shows the
sata_via module in state "Loading" while all others are in state "Live".
The dmesg output shows that the module gets loaded, sees two disks, then
prints info

/usr/lib64/xen/bin/qemu-dm: invalid option -- ''-vncconnect''
Hi.
I can''t use the vnc option (VNC=1 in my xmexample.hvm file), when I use
RedHat or Fedora on 64 bits. The qemu log, say /usr/lib64/xen/bin/qemu-dm:
invalid option -- ''-vncconnect''
But when I use RedHat or Fedora 32 bits, works fine.
There is a problem or incompatibility in the 64 bits Xen kernel and the VNC
option ?
Best regards
Luis

Can't install CentOS4
Hi everyone,
My email server is running CentOS 3 and I can't upgrade it to CentOS 4
using the CD's. At first I thought it was the old Megaraid card (that's
no longer supported), so I replaced that with a new card. I've tried
ISO's from CentOS 4, 4.1 and now 4.2 which I've tested and booted in
other machines. Just not this one.
I've never had a problem like this

Can't get ipw2200 to work in CentOS 5 on Dell laptop
I've installed ipw2200-firmware-3.0-3.nodist.rf from RPMForge using yum OK.
I've loaded the ipw modules with /sbin/modprobe ipw2200 and then
/sbin/lsmod | grep ipw which gives:
ipw2200 136873 0
ieee80211 33417 1 ipw2200
However, when I run system-config-network I don't see Intel Coporation
PRO/Wireless 2200BG (eth1) in the list of adapters.
Also, when I

Install On Partitionable RAID1
I have some suggested tweaks and changes to
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Install_On_Partitionable_RAID1
1. The user should be instructed to start rescue mode with networking in
order to be able to retrieve the patch for mkinitrd.
2. The command to create /etc/mdadm.conf will result in an extra line
"spares=1" while the array is still syncing. Adding " | head -1 " to

Kickstart Tips and Tricks
Hi,
I am currently translating the Kickstart Tips and Tricks page (and
nearly finished). Just on the last sentences I am not sure what they
mean:
'Then inside the kickstart config itself where you device the network
interfaces using the network statement. If you are using method 2 or 3
then you don't know which device actually will be used. If you don't
specify a device for the

Updates for Tips and Tricks/YUM and RPM page
(hoping this is the right way to submit updates for wiki pages.)
from this page:
http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/YumAndRPM
first, there's this line:
yum --disable "*" --enable "rpmforge" list available
i'm guessing that should be:
yum --disablerepo "*" --enablerepo "rpmforge" list available
also, near the bottom (Method B):
