Article for wiki consideration
I've recently documented simple use of a VServer with CentOS host and guest. toracat@ said that it might be worthwhile putting on the wiki. The present article is located at http://home.nyc.rr.com/computertaijutsu/vserver.html If it does get to the wiki, I would remove the fedora section and also add a notice at the beginning of the article with dire warnings about using a non-stock kernel.

Wiki Update - Aide Link
Hello All, My username is MikeThompson The link to configure Aide at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection Is dead, and says its dead, however, the old link to http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/04/10/centos-5-and-aide/ now redirects to a malicious website. One of my less than savvy users got his windows machine infected there last night. I'm wondering if it

Accessing Windows shares - mini HowTo
On the CentOS mailing list and Forums, I occasionally see questions relating to accessing Windows shares. Thought I could share my notes on this subject which I put together on a web page: http://toracat.freeshell.org/centos/HowToAccessWin.html It is a short practical guide. I would appreciate receiving comments and suggestions. Akemi

Centos bug 15570 - Not just a VBOX bug, can also reproduce on direct hardware install
Ran into this rather frustrating bug when working with VBOX on a Windows 10 host. It should come as no surprise that I would hit this bug when installing CentOS, and also with RHEL 7 Server with GUI (since you get the same kernel). Based on information from your bug list, I was fortunately able to workaround the trouble with: wget

CentOS Forums
We have CentOS Forums here: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/ Akemi Yagi (toracat on IRC) and Fabian Arrotin (arrfab on IRC) are the Forum Moderators. There are a lot of posts there that I find helpful when doing web searches ... but we could use more people answering questions there. Also, we specifically need some people to answer questions concerning Oracle database deployment in the

patched kernel addressing timekeeping issues under vmware
People at vmware have provided patches for RHEL 5 that aim to fix timekeeping issues in vmware guests. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463573 Description of problem (excerpt) : "In a virtual environment, timekeeping for RHEL 64 bit kernels can be problematic, since time is kept by counting timer interrupts for this kernel. The problem arises when the VM is descheduled for some

for loop; lm() regressions; list of vectors - lapply - accolades and square brackets??
Hello and thank you both for your answers! Dennis, I tried to simply run lm(a ~ b) after re-importing "a" as a matrix, but I get the following error message: Error in model.frame.default(formula = a ~ b, drop.unused.levels = TRUE) : invalid type (list) for variable 'a' so maybe I have to specify something in the arguments? What do you think? David, I tried your syntax as

OS Hardening typo?
Hi all; On OS Hardening ( http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection ) there's a section on "Physical Protection" that includes requiring a single-user mode password. There's four lines that look something like this: echo "Require the root pw when booting into single user mode" >> /etc/inittab echo "~~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin" >> /etc/inittab echo

Well, I wasn't a member of this list until today
But I guess with Akemi dragging me out over the OS_Protection page, I'm a member now :-P I've got no problem discussing it or other changes here. I set it up on my blog mostly because there wasn't a way to have comments on the page, and I didn't want to open the wiki page up to editing by outside sources right away. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes

Hello to the AdminGroup, >From what I have been told (by a very reliable source (AY)), I should direct this for the attention of Ralph. In the nicest possible way, Community members Akemi and Ned (aka toracat and NedSlider) have been twisting my arm to get me to agree to join the Wiki editors. Being susceptible to the right sort of persuasion, I eventually agreed. Over the last few weeks I

Centos 6.x and Freenx issue..
Finally got a chance to install Centos 6.x x86_64 version and having an issue with the latest version of freenx. This is a desktop install on a esxi 5 with all updates and only thing I have installed is the latest vmware tools.
