One possible cause for incorrect symbols in X11() output
There have been spasmodic reports of symbols such as pi and infinity
in plotmath being reproduced incorrectly on the X11 device on some
Linux systems (at least Ubuntu 10 and Fedora 12/13), and we've managed
to track down one cause whilst investigating PR#14355.
Some systems have Wine and hence the Wine symbol font installed.

URW Fonts Description in Installation and Administration Manual
Good day,
In section A.2, the manual advises "Linux users will want the urw-fonts package". However, this package only seems to be available for RedHat Linux and Fedora Linux. What about for Debian or Ubuntu ? There is no urw-fonts package for them. Are there any other packages not mentioned that are important for these two distributions ?

Monitor guest vm memory usage
Hi All
Is there a tool to monitor qemu-kvm guest vm memory usage ( free in guest vm)?Nowadays, I have already researched some methods:1. qemu-kvm process memory usage.? ? ?Since qemu-kvm process memory usage always increases as time goes on, it will not reflect the memory usage in vm.2.?virsh dommemstat? ? ?Just as method 1.3.?virsh qemu-monitor-command --hmp [domain name] "info mem"? ?

Compiling R-devel under Windows
Hello there,
I have a habit of compiling R-patched and R-devel every few days.
Recently, I noticed the following problem:
I downloaded both versions with Revision: 40421, Last Changed Date:
2007-01-09. R-patched compiles with no problem. R-devel compiles fine but
when it starts to make PDF documentation it generates the following (tail
of the "make distribution" output):

Building R with Cairo
All-
I have been hacking on an R 2.15 build on an Ubuntu 10.4 box, and I do
not know how to debug R's error message regarding cairo "working".
Configuration completes without the expected additional capability (cairo)
R is now configured for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

Cairo bitmap output should work without X11 dependency (PR#12218)
Full_Name: Craig Ruff
Version: 2.7.1
OS: Irix 6.5.30
Submission from: (NULL) (128.117.8.145)
Cairo based bitmap graphics output should work if cairo and R have been compiled
without xlib support. 2.7.1 gives the "X11 is not available" message in this
case when run interactively, and from my reading the png documentation, calling
png(filename=..., type="cairo") should work.

Embedding fonts in pdf graphics
I know you can control this with the cairo package, but I was hoping
that embedFonts( ) would provide a way to embed all fonts, not just the
non-standard ones. I'm submitting graphics to a journal that wants
Helvetica and Helvetica-bold embedded for some reason. Is there an easy
way to do this on a pdf graphic created wit pdf()? A linux system
command would be excellent for my purpose.

font metrics updated on each program launch
Everytime I start a program with wine-20010629 on Red Hat Linux, font
metrics get updated.
I am getting fonts through the Xserver (no xfont server)
(currently M$, ghostscript, Type1, misc and 75dpi fonts)
Is this behaviour normal?
Everytime this happens, I get lots of output like
fixme:font:LFD_InitFontInfo DBCS fonts like '-urw-century schoolbook

quartz() and dpi
Hello all,
I am using quartz (on OS X obviously) to produce PDFs and PNGs from my
plots, for later inclusion in LaTeX.
I am typically using something like:
plot(0)
dev.print(quartz, file="foo.pdf", width=5, height=3)
dev.print(quartz, file="foo.png", width=5, height=3, dpi=72)
I want the sizes of the PDF and PNG to be *equal* in *inches*, which
works with dpi=72. However,

Plotmath on Fedora 31 broken with with pango >= 1.44 - workarounds?
Hi
The R branch ...
https://svn.r-project.org/R/branches/R-symfam/
... is now set up so that it works "out of the box" on Fedora by setting
the default to be 'symbolfamily=cairoSymbolFont(family, usePUA=FALSE)'
when grSoftVersion()["pango"] is greater than "1.44".
This means that on Fedora 31 (at least on the Docker container I am
testing on)

I do my devel/patch work on Mac so I can take a shot at testing your branch
in the next couple days.

Symbol Font Baseline, Cairo, Card Symbols
I think I found a bug in the Cairo library, plus weird behavior in
both the Cairo and the normal pdf device. The baseline of the spades
symbol seems to be off. This is easier to show than it is to explain.
The problem does not appear in the normal pdf device, which is why I
am guessing this is a Cairo bug. moreover, I cannot figure out why
three of the card symbols seem to be transparent, but

latex warning
Dear all,
I am getting an R CMD check warning about the PDF manual. I am having a
hard time finding out what is wrong, here is the log of the Rd2pdf call.
The full check (and other) log is at
https://api.travis-ci.org/jobs/46373922/log.txt?deansi=true if anybody is
interested, and the package itself is here:

Thanks, Best,
