Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.0.17
I uploaded packages of 1.0.17 to Debian unstable more than a month ago, and
also updated the xapian-backports PPA on launchpad:
https://launchpad.net/~xapian-backports/+archive/ppa
But more recently and more notably, I've now uploaded backported packages for
Debian 5.0 (the current stable release, codename lenny) and Debian 4.0 (the
"oldstable" release, codename etch) to

Upgrading R packages on Etch
Greetings,
I've been trying to upgrade R packages on my Debian Etch
(whose other upgrades I have been cheerfully going along
with as they occur).
When I did, just now:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
I got:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
r-base-core r-cran-boot r-cran-cluster

R slower after etch->lenny upgrade
Hi. Last week I updated from 32 bit etch to 32 bit lenny on an AMD SMP
machine. I first cloned the system disk to an identical drive, and
updated the cloned drive. I still have the etch install untouched on
the previous drive, which has allowed me to do some testing. After the
update R has slowed down significantly. A user brought this to my
attention, and at this point we have only

Samba 3.2.0 in Debian "lenny"
After several months of testing in the "experimental" branch of
Debian, samba 3.2.0 was uploaded to Debian "unstable" as of July 20th
2008 and entered the "testing" branch of the distribution as of August
1st.
As the "testing" branch is the future stable release of the Debian
distribution, this means that Samba 3.2.0 will be in the upcoming

plans for lenny-cran? can I help?
Hi,
I'm running a highschool network with Debian etch and the etch-cran
"backports" on top of it. Being bio-informatics, the newest R is essential to
us.
I did some upgrading experiments; switching to ubuntu is not
an option, neither is fetching the sid debs for r.
When trying to upgrade from etch to lenny with etch-cran packages installed
things block on etch-cran dependencies.

Several xen problems in Debian Etch
Hi folks,
before I flood the bug tracking system, I just want to send you a list
of problems I encountered when using xen under Debian Etch (i386 on
Intel Core2 Duo E6750). Shall I open a seperate bug report for each of
the items below or are some of them features that are known to be
missing in the xen release?

Dear R-Users,
I am having some trouble getting an installation of RCurl 0.8-1 to work

The command 'R CMD INSTALL RCurl_0.8-1.tar.gz' yields the following error:

lenny-cran AMD64
Hi.
First, I would like to thank all the contributors to this project for
their efforts. Given that we primarily use Debian and R as our computing
platform, having access to these backports has been very beneficial.
I have been looking in the last couple of days for AMD64 lenny backports
of the R 2.9.0 packages in lenny-cran. Will these appear in due course or
are there issues backporting

Deb-4.0 Etch and sources.list for R
Hi Folks,
I'm running Debian-4.0 Etch, installed last September
from a DVD, and regularly updated as things arise.
I have R version 2.4.0 Patched (2006-11-25 r39997)
installed (initially at the time of first installation
of Debian, as provided by Debian), along with a variety
of packages.
I'd like to be able to connect to the CRAN repositories
for Debian R, for updates etc.

Trying to install the key so that I can install wine, but I have this error.

Can you suggest what I might do next?

Xen Enterprise on Debian Etch
Hi all. Sorry for posting this to the devel list but the website is
unclear on this issue.
We''re about to purchase Xen Enterprise and would like to run it on
Debian Etch (i.e. Debian Etch for the dom0 as well as the domUs).
It looks like the deliverable when Xen Enterprise is purchased is a CD
image containing a Red Hat installation. Can anyone point us at a
supported method of

Migrate to Debian Etch - nogo
Hi Everyone,
I have a small project going on. I'm about to migrate Redhat 7.3 to
Debian Etch (smbd version 3.0.23d-2+b1).
I've already managed to migrate Redhat 7.3 to Debian Sarge (smbd version
3.0.14a-) without any bigger problems.
However, when I migrate to Etch I face a small problem. The last thing I
want to do before I start samba is to grant my linux/samba admin,

Installing 3.2.1 on Debian Etch
Hi,
I have been testing XenServer 4.1 and I have migrated to Xen 3.2.1 due
to the lack of PCI passthrough in Citrix XenServer.
I''ve spent 6 hours this evening installing backports packages and/or
compiling the source in a fresh Debian Etch install. But still my DomU
is crashing. I suspect I have too many versions floating around now so
I will try again from scratch. What is the simplest

Xen3 on Etch - Rebooting when 2nd DomU started
Hi All,
Fairly new to Debian and Xen but I have a box running with lots of DomUs
under Xen2 and it is fine.
I have setup a new IBM eServer P4 and loaded Etch and loaded Xen3.
It runs up my first DomU beautifully but when I start my second DomU it
crashes the PC and reboots.
If I comment out the line in /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp
(network-script network-bridge)
It will run 2 DomUs
Have I run

'plm'/'kinship' package on Debian Etch?
Hi Folks,
Has anyone got a compiled binary of the package 'plm'
and/or of the package 'kinship' for Debian Etch?
I'm asking because I'd like to install 'plm', but have
failed because it depends on 'kinship', and 'kinship'
refuses to compile on my Debian Etch.
The underlying reason is the Debian refuses to allow me
to install the development

packages for etch lagging behind :(
how come only 1 out of 3 versions of wine actually gets built for etch?
i mean i understand that the packages get built by different people so theyre not updated synchronously but ubuntu, suse, mandriva etc are all up to date at 0.9.60, whereas the latest etch package ist version 0.9.58, TWO versions behind !!! no fair!
i mean cmon! debian is just as mainstream as the rest of em, so give us a
