active pdf/annotated visualization RFC
How can R users take advantage of the "active PDF" paradigm
for annotation of statistical graphics? The basic objective
is to take a small number of locations on a graph and
hyperlink them -- add persistent information to the pdf
rendering of the graph so that when the user clicks
on the location, a browser is (started if necessary and) pointed
to a URL specified by the persistent

Advice interfacing to an imaging library
Hi All,
I've done some work recently making some of our image analysis library
callable from R and Splus. Most of the C image functions use an abstract
data type, and R only sees a pointer to this. All memory allocation is
done by the library. This leads to some interesting problems. I'm
interested in your views about possible solutions.

Matrix 1.6.2+ versus Matrix 1.6.2-
Naras,
Thanks. I'm a bit confused, because Rmosek does not declare Matrix as a
dependency:
> tools::package_dependencies("Rmosek", which = "all")[[1L]]
[1] "pkgbuild"
nor does it contain code needing compilation:
> packageDescription("Rmosek", fields="NeedsCompilation")
[1] "no"

importing excel-file
Dear R-experts,
It is a quite stupid question but please help me. I am very confuced. I
am able to import normal txt ant mat-files to R but unable to import
.xls-file
I do not understand the online help. Can please anyone send me the
corresponding command lines? The .xls-file is attached. In my file we
use commas for the decimal format (example: 0,712), changes might be
needed.
Thanks, Corinna

low level plotting question on R
Dear List,
I am trying to modify the xlab and ylab for a current figure that was
plotted by a package, I searched through the low level plotting command and
they do not seem to contain how to do this (the only way is to use xlab,
ylab as arguments in "plot" command, which I can not do since the plot is
plotted using some other package, not by my own script). Is there any
command for

[Andreas Krause <Andreas.Krause@genedata.com>] Re: splus shell escapes
Anyone know what the problem is with IRIX 6.5 ? (esp if there is a
solution?). Looks like the built-in math stuff is masking definitions
from R source.
(passing this along for a friend).
best,

NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL message-- were to look?
Hi folks,
I'm trying to access a shared printer on a windows machine. The
windows box (call it "Doze") is located behind a router/printserver,
and is set up thus:
-DOZE connects to the printer via the printserver using the PRTMATE
port, and then shares the printer via smb -- workgroup CHASS, server
name HIS-FACLAB, printer name his-fac-lex
-Router forwards all incoming connections

Still considering backup utilities
I hear that backuppc does *not* have a native *Doze client. On the other
hand, I know amanda's been around a long time, and it does. Opinions on
amanda, folks?

cran ubuntu repository and ubuntu 12.10
Since upgrading to quantal, I find that synaptic and apt-get cannot read
the sources.list file if it includes the previously standard line
deb http://lib.stat.cmu.edu/R/CRAN/bin/linux/ubuntu/ quantal
This line makes apt-get or synaptic give an error message identifying
this line as having a syntax error.
If "multiverse" is added at the end of the line, the line is parsed, but

XCI: can we get to the demo state?
Hello XCI developers,
I have a HP6930, downloaded xenclient from the git. And by following the instruction in HOWTO, I could get xenclient boot up fine. I try then to start a guest using xenvm.readme as template and nothing shows on the screen for the guest, although xenops shows 2 doms running.
Can you point me to how to start a guest. And also, is the tree downloaded from git enough to arrive

[PATCH] virtio-net: Reporting traffic queue distribution statistics through ethtool
This patch allows virtio-net driver to report traffic distribution
to inbound/outbound queues through ethtool -S. The per_cpu
virtnet_stats is split into receive and transmit stats and are
maintained on a per receive_queue and send_queue basis.
virtnet_stats() is modified to aggregate interface level statistics
from per-queue statistics. Sample output below:

graphlets
Naras presented something with similar functionalities using SVG a couple of
years ago, and since then the svgdevice package had been made available. I
do not know SVG myself, but according to Naras, it's all possible.
Best,
Andy
