Sweave doesn't hand on width of special characters of Computer Modern fonts to LaTeX
Hello R users,
Using R, Sweave and the cmsyase.afm font it is possible to write LaTeX
documents including R figures with text in the Computer Modern Fonts:
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{Sweave}
\begin{document}
<<echo = false, results = hide>>=
CM <- Type1Font("CM",
c(file.path("C:/texlive/2009/texmf-dist/fonts/afm/public/cm-lgc",

PDF fonts problem
Dear List,
I am writing a paper in Hungarian, that I Sweave and than pdfLaTeX.
Everything is fine, except for two accented letters in the graphs that
behave strange, though on the screen and in eps exports they look
perfect. The problem is that I need pdf graphs, since I would like to
have a PDF after LaTeX-ing.
For the example below I downloaded the following two font sets:

font inclusions in pdf files
I am stumbling into external font issues here and there. I presume using
external lucida fonts is fairly rare, so I am more likely to stumble onto
issues here. (of course, I often think I have stumbled onto bugs/features
that are not.) So, I hope I am not imposing by reporting the following.

Arial font in eps figures in R
Hi,
I am trying to create a graph using Arial font (as required by PLoS One). I have read probably all posts in R-help on this topic, as wells as R-news 2006.
The code I have been trying is following:
Arial <- Type1Font(family="Arial",
metrics=c("ArialMT.afm", "arial-BoldMT.afm", "Arial-ItalicMT.afm",

Can Sweave be instructed to use the cairo graphics device?
I'm writing a book using Sweave which includes Unicode characters which R's postscript and pdf graphics devices don't handle properly. The cairo graphics device does handle these characters properly. Thus I'd like to be able to instruct Sweave to use cairo (either sometimes or always) to produce graphics when it processes R code. Is this possible?
Many thanks,
Roger Levy

Computer Modern Fonts in R graphic
Hello all,
I am trying to use computer modern fonts in my r grahics. I tried to do,
as described here: http://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~paul/R/CM/CMR.html
but unfortunately, it does not work.
First of all I downloaded the cm-lgc package and the AFM and PFB-files
from the page and put them in my R working directory, so far, so good.
Then I tried to run the following code:

unicode&pdf font problem RESOLVED
Just to add to this (I've been looking through the archive) problem with display unicode fonts in pdf document in R
If you can use the Cairo package to create pdf on Mac, it seems quite happy with pushing unicode characters through (probably still font family dependant whether it will display)

Truetype and Opentype font in pdf device
Deal all,
I want to know if truetype or opentype fonts are available in pdf
device (i.e., pdf() or dev.copy2pdf()), and if so, how to do it?
Now I can do as followings:
1. convert ttf to afm using ttf2afm, e.g.: $ ttf2afm Impact.ttf > Impact.afm
2. put the afm file in $R_HOME/library/grDevices/afm
3. register a new type1 font: pdfFonts(Impact=Type1Font("Impact",

Extrafont package: Fonts are not successfully installed
Hi,
I am using Extrafont package to install more fonts for my graphs. My
primary graphic tool is ggplot2. I seem to have problem installing the
package, but could not pinpoint where it is.
I try to follow the instruction here:
https://github.com/wch/extrafont
I guess (but am not sure) the fonts are successfully installed.
Problem encountered:

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
Hi
I don't think this is an R issue (it is separate from the Cairo Symbol
font problem).
For PDF output, R actually relies on the Symbol font having the Adobe
Symbol Encoding (Appendix D of the PDF Reference
https://opensource.adobe.com/dc-acrobat-sdk-docs/pdfstandards/pdfreference1.7old.pdf)
and just outputs the font as "Symbol", which relies on it being one of

rgl.Sweave not producing transparency in pdf plots with alpha
Hi Folks,
I'm trying to get rgl.Sweave to produce plots with transparency.
However, it just seems to produce opaque plots when pdf is the output
type. Perhaps this is a known issue? I'll just use .png in the
meantime, but wanted to see about this, as I didn't see it in the
documentation (though it's possible I missed it).
Thanks,
Allie

evince not showing "greek" and "math" in *.pdf plots
Martin, I wouldn't rule out an R issue yet. Fonts are... tricky. So I'm
cc'ing Paul Murrell here.
I tried several viewers here and I see the following: Chrome, Firefox and
Libreoffice Draw show the symbols; however, evince, okular and xournal++
agree on **not** showing the symbols. **If** there is a bug, the bug would
be in fontconfig, because these ones AFAIK properly delegate on

I see. Peter, you are right about the font that causes the issue. Paul,
thanks for your insights. I'll bring this to the Fedora font experts to see
if we can arrive at a more permanent fix. I'll report back with any
conclusion.
@Martin: Meanwhile, at least you have options. One is to embed the fonts,
either as Peter suggested or using cairo_pdf instead. Alternatively, Peter
