Upgrade from b113 to b122 - any gotchas
We are running 4 Solaris10u7 DomUs on a b113 Dom0 I''d like to upgrade the Dom0 to b122 but not rebuild the DomUs. Below is a typical DomU xml dump. Is there anything obvious that will bite me in upgrading from 113 to 122? Thanks John virsh # dumpxml achilles2 <domain type=''xen'' id=''1''> <name>achilles2</name>

Xen EOF?
Hi, just found: PSARC/2010/250 EOF of Solaris xVM dom0 approved. So does this mean, Xen is officially dead on Solaris? xvm + zones = panic (?)
i''m crossposting from the opensolaris help forum: i''ve just migrated some zones to newer hardware running b94, and find that after a while working with an hvm in xvm, the machine hangs/panics. if i leave xvm stuff alone, the machine is perfectly reliable. it''s x64, intel chipset/procs anybody else having these troubles - zones and xvm together causing hangs/panics?

[Fwd: Shared Storage in xVM Opensolaris build 122]
Hi, I double checked the configuration with xm and the "w!" option seems to be configured :-( I also upgraded to build 123, but also no change in behaviour. Thus is this a RAC 11.2 problem or is there a general problem using zvols as as shared disks for xVM domains ? (device (vbd (protocol x86_64-abi) (uuid 048d282d-da4c-2e0b-b9f4-f3f4cc0811c7)

DomU with ZFS root on iSCSI - any tips?
Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone had any tips for trying to install a NV 94 DomU with ZFS root to an iSCSI Target? The iSCSI Target happens to be a NV 94 system with ZVOLs exported as the Targets, but I wouldn''t think that would matter. I tried this last week and the install seemed to complete fine, but when the DomU attempted to reboot after install, I received a message to the

Good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has any in site as to how to import a VMware vmdk into xVM on OpenSolaris 2009.06 (xVM 3.1). I have a VMware VM created on VMware Server 2.0 and would like to move it over to this xVM server. I appreciate any advice anyone may have. Cheers, -Chris -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

p2v for sxce snv115 to xvm on opensolaris host?
hi folks, is there a straightforward or well-documented way to migrate my physical sxce snv_115 (x64) system into an xvm ? searching for "p2v" in an opensolaris context seems to pick up a few hits on zones, but nothing obvious relating to xvm on opensolaris for what it''s worth the host system is opensolaris (2010.02 snv_126), but i''m hoping that''s not very

Convert VirtualBox VM to xVM?
Hi all, I''m in the process of building a home server with OpenSolaris 2009.06. It''s main function is to serve files (hence using OpenSolaris for some ZFS goodness), but I want to host some Windows x64 VMs on it as well. Given that there are currently no x64 Windows drivers for xVM, I was thinking of starting with VirtualBox (which does have x64 Windows drivers), and then

Two zvol devices one volume?
Hi, Can anyone explain the following to me? Two zpool devices points at the same data, I was installing osol 2008.11 in xVM when I saw that there already was a partition on the installation disk. An old dataset that I deleted since i gave it a slightly different name than I intended is not removed under /dev. I should not have used that name, but two device links should perhaps not

SNV82: Not enough memory is available, and dom0 cannot be shrunk any further
Hi All, I am running nevada 79 BFU''ed to 82. The machine is a Ultra 20 with 4GB memory. I have several Windows XP domU''s configured and registered. When ever I try to start the fourth domain I get an out of memory exception: Not enough memory is available, and dom0 cannot be shrunk any further Each of my domains only uses 256 so I thought there would be sufficient memory

Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi, I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540 with the following configuration: - 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives) - 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL - 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC. -

HVM Windows: disk image vs. zvol - which is better?
Hi everyone! I''m planning to migrate a little firm''s Windows server to a HVM machine. The test setup woks fine (it''s basically an MSSQL server tied pack of programs for an accountancy office), all programs can reach the mssql from the outside on the hvm windows. If fact it turned out to be so good, that I''m even planning to simply copy the win image(s) to the

zfs list improvements?
To improve the performance of scripts that manipulate zfs snapshots and the zfs snapshot service in perticular there needs to be a way to list all the snapshots for a given object and only the snapshots for that object. There are two RFEs filed that cover this: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6352014 : ''zfs list'' should have an option to only present direct

xvm no go
Hello all. We''re a pretty traditional old school sun shop w/a few dozen sun boxes from 1999-2004. We''re doing a try and buy on a sun blade 6000 with a couple of 6250 intel blades and a 6320 blade, looking to use multiple chassis to do a consolidation, using ldoms and xvm server with xvm ops center to manage it all. At least that''s our forward looking plan.... to move

can I clone a runiung domU?
Hi all I''d like to know if it''s possible to clone a running domU. I need to make an exact copy of an existing CentOS xen domU, but without taking it offline. I''m using LVM, so I don''t know if it will help. I have tried doing it with dd, after shutting down the domU, but it takes ages. The LVM image is 30GB. I can''t really afford to have the

ZFS on ZFS based storage?
I''m trying to guess what is the best practice in this scenario: - let''s say I have a zfs based storage (let''s say nexenta) that has it zfs pools and volumes shared as iScsi raw devices - let''s say I have another server running xvm or virtualbox connected to the storage - let''s say one of the virtual guests is OpenSolaris My question is: - is it correct

ZFS/iSCSI target integration

iscsitgtd failed request to share on zpool import after upgrade from b104 to b134
Hi, I am posting my question to both storage-discuss and zfs-discuss as I am not quite sure what is causing the messages I am receiving. I have recently migrated my zfs volume from b104 to b134 and upgraded it from zfs version 14 to 22. It consist of two zvol''s ''vol01/zvol01'' and ''vol01/zvol02''. During zpool import I am getting a non-zero exit code,
