What is this Very Stupid DOS Attack Script?
We have been noticing flurries of sshd reject messages in
which some system out there in the hinterlands hits us with a flood of
ssh login attempts. An example:

Apr 6 05:49:42 dc sshd[12389]: input_userauth_request: illegal

an attempt to track the intruder down. Right now we
are clueless as to what we need to do..
Most of our servers are running legacy operating

MIT Kerberos and OpenSSH
Howdie,
Is there a way to get the default BSD 5.3 openssh to compile against
the MIT kerberos libraries? I have set NO_KERBEROS=yes in /etc/make.conf so
that the heimdal kerberos is not built, and rebuilt world, then installed
/usr/ports/security/krb5 and rebuilt world again. sshd is however not being
built against MIT at all.

S4 classes and objects -- fixed structure? No...
Hello.
Suppose you define a new S4-class, say
> setClass("track", representation(x="numeric", y="numeric"))
Don't worry if you have a deja vu, it's from the help page.
Your new class is said to have a fixed structure: two slots, x, and y,
and that should apply to all objects you construct as members of that class.

Authentication Command
Anyone else experiencing a slow authentication command. I noticed this
command takes about 1.5 - 2 seconds of silence before it asked for password,
then another 2 sec of silence before it moves froward after that. Any ideas

FreeBSD Security Survey
Dear FreeBSD users and system administrators,
While the FreeBSD Security Team has traditionally been very good at
investigating and responding to security issues in FreeBSD, this only
solves half of the security problem: Unless users and administrators
of FreeBSD systems apply the security patches provided, the advisories
issued accomplish little beyond alerting potential attackers to the

SpeexBits ...
Hi Marian,
I took a brief look at RFC 5574 and as far as I understand, you can simply do it like this:
SpeexBits b;
speex_encode(state, some320bytePCM1, &b);
speex_encode(state, some320bytePCM2, &b);
After that, get the encoded data with speex_bits_write and put it in your packet.

RFC 5574 and multiple frames
Hello all,
I am experimenting with Speex in a mobile VoIP application, and it seems
that it is worth stuffing more than one codec frame into a single RTP
packet; mainly, that sending several frames per packet relieves the
underlying network socket connection, which is notoriously problematic
in mobile devices.
RFC 5574 defines the exact way how to put multiple Speex frames into a
single RTP

Error while trying to manage file share
I checked my entire setup again and again. Now I can see the my share. The
most relevant change I did (afaik - ofcourse):
- since I am using ad backend I created dedicated unix admin groups (as
recommended in the docs)
- I removed the $ from the share section/defnition ([projects$] ->
[projects])
- I changed browseable switch from 'no' to 'yes'
Iam still getting the "event

Revealing linux quota to windows users?
Hello!
I know this must be an old topic, but I can't quite find an answer in
the archive or the Howto.
I would like to know if it's possible to show the user quota instead of
the disk size when users open their home directoy as a share.
(I think it's kind of misleading when it says "480GB free" to a user who
has only 500 MB space.)
Thanks!

ssh-keygen between SuSE and FreeBSD
I hope this isn't an invalid topic for this list. I'm on so many lists and I hate to join another one just to get help on one thing. Apologies if it's not.
I am able to use ssh-keygen to generate keys so that I can ssh from my Mac to any of my SuSE systems or ssh from my Mac to any of my FreeBSD systems, without having to enter my password. When I try the same thing from a SuSE system
