State of the Breezy
What''s the current state of Rails installation on a fresh Ubuntu Breezy?
I''ve just set up a laptop with a fresh installation, and tried to
install ruby et al, and got nowhere fast. The default ruby is 1.8.3,
and compiling the source for 1.8.4 leaves the rubygems setup.rb breaking
unable to find zlib (and yes, I have checked for zlib1g-dev and
readline). Is there a known

Rails 1.1 and Ruby 1.8.3
I''ve seen that Rails 1.1 is not reliable with Ruby 1.8.2 so you should
upgrade to 1.8.4
I''m running ruby 1.8.3. What''s the story with it? Do I need to
upgrade before I try Rails 1.1?
Thanks

Hi all, I''ve been looking for these for quite some time now and I
couldn''t find them with a transparent background and a neutral color,
so here they are, just baked from the oven:

Mongrel Web Server 0.3.11 -- Edge Rails and Win32Compliant
I don''t think there''s a way to do that other than using a proxy
(ISAPI_REWRITE) or just a server-side redirect. I''d love to be proven
wrong though.

Ruby, Rails & Linux - Which distro ??
Hi,
I''ve been doing most of my initial playing with rails on a windows
system - but wish to switch to a dedicated linux box for this.
Are there any particular distro''s to avoid / recommend. I prefer debian
for my other stuff, but thought i''d ask before going ahead. :)
Cheers

Dev Web Server Setup Suggestions?
I inherited a PC that I''m turning into a *NIX web server for in house
development. Its primary purpose would be for staging, before apps were
released to a shared-hosting environment. I''m probably going to setup
Apache 1.3/FastCGI to match where the site is currently hosted. I
develop in Windows, but I really want to get more familiar with the
command-line linux environment.

Can I get RubyOnRails to read and parse an html file off harddrive?
I do this in ASP to read a special html template that I use, then modify in
code before spitting out the resulting webpage.
Any ideas on how to script this in RUBY? Do I need a special GEM package?

Best Linux distibution for ruby on rails developement?
Hi,
I am on Kanotix linux since the first distribution was released by Kano.
However I am tired of the "if it can go wrong it will go wrong on
Kanotix" pattern.
Please recommend a distribution that by your experience is best for ruby
on rails development and need no hour-long tweacks for even "simple"
tasks.
Thanks,
Jan Martin

New Ubuntu Breezy and Dapper APT repository - stop using sourceforge!
Greetings folks,
Since the sourceforge apt repository is woefully limited to just one
distribution version, and because it is exceedingly slow and times out a
lot, budgetdedicated.com has graciously donated us a blazing fast server
to host the fresh Ubuntu packages.
To use the APT repository, simply edit 'sudo
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' and then add the following lines, depending

Hi
I''m pleased to let you know that wxruby2-preview 0.0.36 is now available

To check out a clean copy from SVN and build from source:
svn co svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/wxruby/tags/wxruby2/0.0.36
cd 0.0.36
rake gem WXRUBY_VERSION=0.0.36
From my reading of SVN docs it''s probably wise for developers to

Capistrano deployment issues under Ubuntu Dapper
I''ve recently upgraded my box from Ubuntu Breezy to Dapper, and for
the life of me can''t figure out why I''m getting this exception thrown.
I''ve switched from Switchtower to Capistrano, and when I run rake
deploy I get this output:

Windows 98 games can't run off CD
Greetings. I am running wine on Kubuntu (KDE Ubuntu- same thing)
Dapper Drake and I'v successfully installed 2 Windows 98 programs.
They run fine until they give me a message saying that they can't find
the CD to run off of, and tell me to insert it. This means I can't run
the games, because they can only run off the CD. I've tried detecting
the CD drive, and it's already

OneNote on a DualBoot system
I have a Toshiba laptop that came with Windows XP and OneNote
installed. I then installed Ubuntu Dapper Drake and am dual-booting
the system. I want to run OneNote on Ubuntu with WINE. Obviously I
could set up WINE to use the dual-booting native DLLs (but I don't know
how to do that), and I can't install OneNote directly on Ubuntu with
WINE because while I have a legal copy of the full

Wine goes insane after dapper upgrade
Hi.
I upgraded from Breezy to dapper using update-manager and now the fonts in
wine have gone insane.
It looks like something similar to Wingdings has become the standard wine
font.
Anyone know how I might fix this?

Custom Mail Directory for some users
Hi list,
I'm new on this mailing list and I'm kind of stucked at the moment.
I managed to get Postfix and Dovecot working together with Amavis,
OpenLDAP und SASL on Ubuntu Linux Release "Dapper Drake". The Dovecot
version shipped with Dapper is 1.0-beta3 (at least, that's what the
package database tells me), I also tried this with a Debian Backport of
version 1.0-rc15.
