rake update_javascripts on edge has no effect
I moved to the edge yesterday and ran rake update_javascripts to get the
latest prototype stuff into my public directory. To my surprise, the
old files were still there afterward.
I just took a peek at javascripts.rake in
vendor/rails/railties/lib/tasks. The update_javascripts task is copying
.js files from Dir[RAILTIES_PATH + ''/html/javascripts/*.js''] My

Lighttpd and fastcgi problems...
Hi,
I''m having difficulty getting ruby running via Lighttpd and fastcgi. My
lighttpd.conf reads:
server.port = 81
server.pid-file = "/tmp/test_lighttpd.pid"
server.modules = ( "mod_redirect", "mod_access", "mod_fastcgi",
"mod_accesslog", "mod_simple_vhost" )
server.document-root = "/tmp/mis/public"

hosting multiple rails apps in one webroot?
It''s actually REALLY easy with lighttpd on linux.
Two apps...
Myserver.com/code/ => /apps/code/
Myserver.com/test/ +> /apps/test/
Each application needs this in the environment.rb
/apps/code/config/environment.rb
ActionController::AbstractRequest.relative_url_root = "/code"
/apps/test/config/environment.rb
ActionController::AbstractRequest.relative_url_root

Correct way to capture a select param
I''m having trouble capturing the params from a select type form.
For text field like this:
<%= text_field_tag :courseid %>
I''m able to capture the posted value with this
params[:courseid]
However with a select field like this:
<%= select(:course, :id, %w{value1 value2 value3} %>
I''m not sure how to capture the posted value.

Edge Rails Instructions out of date?
hello all,
I currently have Rails 1.0 installed, and was hoping to get the latest
edge rails. Following the directions found at:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/EdgeRails
I ran the following command:
rake freeze_edge
The command ran without a problem. When I went to update my
application, however, by running the following command:

GET request works via curl, crashes from Java
[That subject line is of course a severe truncation!]
I''ve got a REST request that works fine from curl but causes a
mongrel error when executed from a Java program. This all worked with
fine with rails 1.1.6 and webrick. I''m trying to update the app to
rails 1.2.1 (I need working around_filters).
I''m running in development mode with mongrel 1.01 running on macosx

Preloading child rows 2 levels deep?
I currently have 3 tables/models: 1) Clients, 2) Charges, and 3)
Court_Dates.
Clients 1..n Charges 1..n Court_Dates
I am trying to find all clients that have a court_date on a certain day:
something along the lines of (@client.charge.court_date.date ==
Date.today).
I have had success preloading child rows using the :include parameter,
but that only works with a parent and a child, or a

Datebocks and EdgeRails
Hello,
I am having trouble trying to use the Datebooks Engine with Edge Rails.
Has anybody try with it?
It seems that the problem has something with loading the layout, and
complaints about the number of arguments.
I will thank any help or guide.
Thank you very much.

render partial from withit mail template
Hi,
I''m trying to include a partial in an email template but it throws me this:
undefined method `controller_path'' for SupportMailer:Class
Extracted source (around line #12):
11:
12: <%= render :partial => ''footer'' %>
I guess email views are a little different from normal ones as they
don''t seem to have a access to a proper controller (?)

svn externals and Edge Rails
Hi all:
I am considering using edge rails so I can use join tables. I want to
use svn:externals to manage edge rails, however I want to understand
it more before I go and set everything up. so everytime I commit my
app it will pull the most recent version of rails from the svn
repository, right? What if the current version of rails is unstable,
is there a way to rollback edgerails and NOT my app?

RSpec + EdgeRails on Windows
I recently post on my blog about setting up a Rails environment with RSpec
in Windows, and someone left a comment saying that it doesn''t work in
EdgeRails. I so I played around with it a bit and was able to confirm that
none RSpec appears broken on EdgeRails. I''ll post the various error messages
I received below. I''m not expecting any sort of patch or something for this

RoR and Growing Pains
I have persuaded my company to move towards an RoR shop... from a PHP 5
(with in-house-built framework)... so the jump is not terribly bad. I''m
REALLY excited actually!
My problem: I am overwhelmed with all the setup Loops I have to jump
through to get RoR setup. I tried it on my current Apache 1.34 and
decided it''d be easier to make the Lighty (1.4.11) jump. So I did. I get

Connecting to multiple databases
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to connect to multiple databases and followed along the
Recipe in Chad Fowlers ''Rails Recipes'' book (which basically is about
establishing the connection in a subclass of ActiveRecord::Base, and
inheriting all classes in need of this connection from this class)
Chad Fowler says:
"You won''t be able to instantiate an External, of course,

Capistrano setup fails
I can''t get past the setup step in Capistrano. I know the paths are
correct and I''m using zsh locally (bash on remote), so the shell
shouldn''t be a problem. It never asks for the SSH password, even. Any
help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

back-porting 1.1.1 app to 1.0 rails server
I''ve been developing new application on local machine in rails 1.1.1.
Hosting provider (godaddy) is at rails 1.0.0 and not upgrading any time
soon I''m told. I set "RAILS_GEM_VERSION = ''1.0.0''" in my environment.rb
file to get past inital errors, but now I''m getting the following error:

getting onto edge rails
Following directions from the wiki, I first tried to use svn:externals
$ svn propedit svn:externals vendor
svn: ''.'' is not a working copy
and got that error. I then checked out the trunk into my /vendor
folder. How do I install from this source? The only install
directions I can find use gem.
Thanks for your help with either problem.
