to_absolute_uri typo in 0.6.3?
I just started using Mechanize, and started using Ruby about thirty seconds before that, but one of the sites I''m scraping does a redirect on form submission to a badly-formed relative URL: index.cfm?action=bing&bang=boom=1|a=|b=|c= (etc.) Interestingly, Mechanize 0.6.2 handled this OK, but in 0.6.3 this causes a URI::InvalidURIError exception from URI.parse() in to_absolute_uri

escape/unescape attribution
Not filing this as a bug, but simply as confusion. In the mongrel.rb, you have a comment that says this about the self.escape method: # Performs URI escaping so that you can construct proper # query strings faster. Use this rather than the cgi.rb # version since it''s faster. (Stolen from Camping). def self.escape(s) s.to_s.gsub(/([^ a-zA-Z0-9_.-]+)/n) {

Regular expressions: bug or misunderstanding?
I'm trying to write a gsub() call that takes a string and escapes all the unescaped quote marks in it. So the string \" would be left unchanged, but \\" would be changed to \\\" because the double backslash doesn't act as an escape for the quote, the first just escapes the second. I have the usual problems of writing regular expressions involving backslashes which

Overview of Ruby 1.9 encoding problem tickets
SUMMARY: -------- I tried to identify the general and root causes for these problems with 1.9, by taking into account non-utf encoding, current patches, comments and ideas. I used ticket #2188 as base for explanations. This is a long read. I wanted to include all the relevant information in one place. I also included information about related tickets in LH and their status. I decided that adding

suggestions/improvements for recoding strategy
I am recoding some data. Many values that should be 1.5 are recorded as 1-2. Some example data and my solution is below. I am curious about better approaches or any other suggestions. Thanks! # example input data myData <- read.table(textConnection("id, v1, v2, v3 a,1,2,3 b,1-2,,3-4 c,,3,4"),header=TRUE,sep=",") closeAllConnections() # the first column is IDs so remove

Change I needed to make in to_absolute_uri for unescaped URL separator characters
Mechanize is great! It''s better than anything I was expecting to be out there, and the syntax is really nice. I had a bit of a problem though -- following URLs with commas. The code in to_absolute_uri works great for spaces, but some pages I was working on had URLs with unescaped commas that URI rejected when I tried to click() on them. So I changed the first statement in

URL question
Well, this is more of an apache question, but... I''m running a nice little ''cluster'' of camping apps and I''ve recently started proxying them through apache with mod_proxy, since I found I was forwarding a lot of ports via ssh otherwise. But anyway, enough of that. One of the apps I use to view logs from IRC (with formatting and highlighting!). But

Hi Guys, I succeeded in sending email with content-type big5. However, the content of the email is still utf-8! I''ve tried to call the t(:my_sentence).encode(''big5'') or my content, but there is "invalid byte sequence in UTF-8" errors in a lot of places starting from actionmailer/lib/utils.rb (text.to_s.gsub(/\r\n?/, "\n")) and it stop me from

url prep function (backslash issue)
Greeting R Community, I am a windows user so this problem may be specific to windows. I often want to source files from within R such as: C:\Users\Rinker\Desktop\Research & Law\Data\School Data 09-10. To source this file I need to go through the path and replace all the backslashes (\) with forward slashes (/). I usually do this in MS Word using the replace option, however, I'd like
