Fast Ruby Debugger?
After developing in Java for years in IDEs I''m starving for a decent ruby debugger. When learning new codebasesI find it invaluable to use the debugger to step through the system and see how things work at runtime. Using RDT in Eclipse is fine but it''s excruciating to wait minutes for the default debugger to finally reach my breakpoints on tests that normally take seconds to

RDT and breakpointer
How to get Rails'' script/breakpointer work in RDT 0.7 in Eclipse 3.1.2? I''m new to Rails and have gotten breakpointer working in a csh on Fedora Core 4. Also, the RDT setup works for breakpoints set in straight Ruby code. I''m trying http://www.napcs.com/howto/railsonwindows.html#setupbreakpointer. But a breakpoint set in Eclipse doesn''t get hit at all.

''Best'' IDE for testing and debugging
I''m trying to decide which IDE to go with for RoR development. I put a high premium on integrated test automated tools and debugging capabilities. I''d appreciate any sharing of experience. I''m currently running Instant Rails on a Windows 2000 box (using IR due to problems I encountered trying to get all the components set up individually). Also, I''m using

Ruby IDE with wxRuby
Hello All, There seems to have been a lot of interest in getting wxScintilla incorperated, and I think most of us who want it, want it so we can create an editor, so to avoid multiple projects comming out with the same goal (Not really that bad of a problem....), I''m going to kick start this, and ask that anyone interested in developing a Editor with wxRuby and wxScintilla, to send

Eclipse with RDT
Has anyone used Eclipse with RDT (http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/RubyDevelopmentTools)? I have never used Eclipse. Would it be worth my time to setup Eclipse with RDT to create my first rails project?

How to Firebug XHR/AJAX requests
Saw a lot of recommendations for Firebug (http://www.joehewitt.com/software/firebug/) on this list. I''ve scanned its docs and tried it--many useful features. But I''m so dense that I can''t get it to spy XHR/AJAX requests and their response on FC5 running Firefox 1.5.0.4 and Firebug 0.4. Can someone tell me how to get to

DRY up link_to_remote and its url_for
In an attempt to provide a gracefully degradable link_to_remote, I repeat myself every time: <%= link_to_remote(''Signup'', {:url => {:controller => ''user'', :action => ''signup''}}, {:href => url_for(:controller => ''user'', :action => ''signup'')}) %> Looked around the RDoc &

Language setting before routing?
When processing a request, where can you obtain the language setting of a user''s browser? I know we can read @request.env["HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE"] in an action easily. But I need to access it before being routed to a controller''s action... because the accepted language dictates my app''s language setting programmatically and what action to take.

Getting started with Ruby and FreeRIDE
I have downloaded the Ruby Windows installer, installed everything, and started FreeRIDE. The FreeRIDE documentation says: > The first thing you''ll want to do is to create a new file. Click on File > -> New: a new empty editor window named ''Untitled 1'' is created. Type the > following code in the empty editor window: > > Click on File -> Save and

Getting the stack trace
Hi all, I am using the following code to print the exception, but is there a way to get the stack trace of the complete error like Exception: No option with text of Contract form in this select element C:/InstantRails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/watir-1.5.1.1145/./watir.rb:3656:in `select_item_in_select_list''

Forward from Laurent Julliard
Let''s try that again, without Hotmail''s crappy formatting. Dan, I am one of the developer of the FreeRIDE project (the Ruby IDE) and I''m in charge of the FreeRIDE debugger with which we have had a number of problems on Windows now mostly due to the clunky implementation of IO/Process/Signal stuff on Win32. I recently came across your Win32 utils package and

[Newbie] Generated files don''t use Windows end-of-lines.
I''m trying to use Rails on Windows 2000. I''m running into an immediate problem in that all the files generated by Rails use the UNIX end-of-line convention instead of the Windows end-of-line convention. A non-compliant end-of-line convention will break any number of tools I may wish to use to manage these files. Is there a way to get Rails to emit Windows-compliant

New Release: One-Click Ruby Installer 1.8.4-17 release candidate 2
We are almost there to a final release. The uninstall issues have been fixed, and a few packages have been upgraded to more recent versions. Many thanks to Ryan Leavengood and Shahank Date who stepped in to help finish off this release! *** Only "show-stopper" problems will be fixed *** We are extreme short of manpower at the moment. Preferred Ruby Editor/IDE for OS X?
Just a quick question, if I were tired of typing ruby into a terminal editor, say I wanted, oh, a scroll bar, mouse support, and maybe syntax highlighting? Anyone know os a good Ruby/Rails editor or IDE, one that runs on OS X, possibly in Java? -Josh ----------- Due to the recent increase in spam and falsely sent email, I now PGP Sign all of my outgoing mail to prove my identity. RadRails problems - any ideas
Hi, I''ve followed the rad rails instructions for importing a project and have two issues. First my console tab shows "Console is not available" I don''t know if that''s significant or not, yet. Second, I''ve created a WebBrick server, but it doesn''t respond when I try to start it from withing RadRails. There''s no error shown.
