ACPI HPET Timer - Works on standard Kernel - Broken on Xen Kernel
I have an error in my dmesg system log about hpet not correctly enabling: hpet_acpi_add: no address or irqs in _CRS The same kernel without Xen enables it fine: hpet0: at MMIO 0xfed00000 (virtual 0xffffffffff5fe000), IRQs 2, 8, 31 hpet0: 3 32-bit timers, 25000000 Hz hpet_resources: 0xfed00000 is busy Do I have to pass an additional boot option? RE: xen - rdma live migration support
Hi Ola, There was some code done by IBM a few years ago in conjunction with a University that worked and showed the benefits but AFAIK it was never integrated into Xen. The research paper is around on the web. A few of us requested RDMA migration support for version 4.0 and it is at the top of the request list, I suspect it is probably a case of enough people asking and Citrix approving.

Trusted certificate for Encrypted VNC + Vencrypt
I was wondering if anyone has managed to get a trusted certificated to work with Xen''s Encrypted VNC and Vencrypt? I can generate my own cert with Certtool and this works but as expected I get warnings from Vencrypt: "Certificate Issuer Unknown" "Certificate Not Trusted" "Hostname Mismatch" After some time working with my Cert provider I have a CA signed

RE: [ofa-general] Infiniband performance
Hi Jan, I asked almost the exact same question as you about 6 months ago and someone provided some Gen4 results for me (But I can''t seem to find them in email), they were a fair bit better than Gen3. With IPOIB, you want connected mode and a large 32Kb+ MTU for max bandwidth, 1Gbyte/sec or more should be possible with Gen 4. Here are some of my original test results on my Opteron

10GB Ethernet for Xen - Intel, Solarflare, Mellanox, Which is best?
Hi All, I''m trying to choose between 10Gb Ethernet cards for Xen. The trouble is I''m getting quite confused with all the different terms different companies use to describe NIC''s virtualization support. Any ideas what the differences are between these brands? I am trying to sort a comparison table but will need some help: Feature Intel ET Series Mellanox

Is NUMA working correctly?
Hi Everyone, I''m trying to bind CPU and memory usage to particular cores using some Quad CPU 16 Core Opterons. They have 64GB RAM, 16 GB per node. It seems that xm info shows it is not working as expected though, below are details for the first node: Name ID Mem VCPUs State Time(s) Domain-0 0 4096 2

3.2.1+ HVM + HAP + NUMA - Poor Memory Performance
Hi Everyone, I am running 3.2.1 on Centos 5.2 with HAP enabled, NUMA enabled, ACPI enabled and the dom0 allocated 512Mb. I have setup a single core 1Gb VM for performance testing under Windows 2008 Server. Most CPU results are within a few percent of theoretical max but Memory performance is about half what I expected. I get 3.22Gb/Sec Sandra 2009 Memory performance for a single Opteron 8350

Xen PV 0.9.12-pre3 with Multiple NICs/Bridges, Hard Lock
Hi Everyone, I''m using a Xen 3.30 on Centos Dom0 setup with two bridges, one for WAN and One for LAN (Both are on separate physical NICs within Dom0). I can use a 2 NIC setup with Server 2003 Pure HVM fine. A single NIC setup works fine with the Pre3 drivers but as soon as I add the second NIC the system hard locks within a few seconds of networking coming up. Both NICs looks fine from

Virsh-install error
Hi everyone, This is my first attempt at a PV guest install from scratch and I''m a tad confused. Have I answered one of the questions virsh-install asks wrongly? Does anyone know of a general guide for installing PV guests with virsh-install? (Most Centos docs seem to use the GUI based virt-manager and I only have command line access). Am I meant to make use of the files here:

Linux PV Drivers - VBD device not loading - Cannot get Major 3/22 for ide
I am trying to get PV drivers running on both Centos 5.1 and Centos 5.3 HVMs, my DomU is Centos 5.2 with Xen 3.31. For 5.1 I install the kmod-xenpv RPM but for 5.3 the drivers seem to be built-in. For the network drivers to work I had to unload the Realtek NIC driver and renamed its .ko files to stop it loading. Adding the Xen-Vnif alias to modprobe.conf then got the PV NICs working nicely (Much

NIC Offloading Confusion
I have been using the built in Xen Paravirt NIC drivers for paravirt networking and had bad performance until I disabled all offload setting on the bridge and paravirt nic (From Dom0). There are 2 related questions I have, where should I be tweaking the offload settings, the Dom0 Physical NIC, The Bridge or the DomU NIC? Which settings in particular tend to cause trouble? (I just disabled all of

Quagga on Xen - Latency / Bandwidth?
I was wondering if anyone is running Quagga on Xen? What is throughput/latency like? Was looking for about a gig of mixed packet size BGP throughput. Hardware is Opteron 4 Way Quad cores, was thinking paravirt with a couple of dedicated cores and maybe the addition of Solarflare 10GB Direct IO NICs might give the required performance level but I am unsure. The other option is multi-queue Intel

Centos 5.2 using LVM -> DRBD 0.82 -> Xen Problems
Hi Everyone, I''m trying to get Xen to use a native DRBD device but it seems it will not create the virtual machine. It does not seem to like the DRBD device type, any ideas on what might be wrong? I''m pretty sure my xen config file is OK and the DRBD device looks fine too. Full details below. xm create centostest Using config file "./centostest".

RHEL 5.2 Xen Kernel doesn''t detect all amount of physical memory
Hello All, Does anyone know what is the current status of RHEL 5.2 x86_64 with respect to the maximum amount of RAM detected by the Xen 64 bit kernel (the one that shipped with Red Hat distribution ) In the following link https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/en-US/RHEL510/Virtualization_Guide/ch-virt-hw-support.html it states that 32GB of RAM is the maximum amount of

Xen 3.3.0 cpu cache problems
Dear Xen users, I have a problem with "Xen 3.3.0". All domU (paravirt) only have "32 KB" of cache instead of "6144 KB" as listed in dom0. This is really noticeable under load since the system tends to be really slow. I did not have this problem with "Xen 3.2.1". I''m using the same domU configuration files for the new and the old installation.
