{nlme} Multilevel estimation heteroscedasticity
Dear All, I'm trying to model heteroscedasticity using a multilevel model. To do so, I make use of the nlme package and the weigths-parameter. Let's say that I hypothesize that the exam score of students (normexam) is influenced by their score on a standardized LR test (standLRT). Students are of course nested in "schools". These variables are contained in the

[Rails 3.2] accepts_nested_attributes_for and time_select
Hi, I am upgrading a Rails application from Rails 3.1.11 to 3.2.12, but have a problem with ` accepts_nested_attributes_for` in conjunction with multipart attributes. The app is used to manage oral exams, so there is a model `Exam`, which has many `Examdate`s. When creating an exam, I can also create the examdates, consisting of a date, a start time and an end time. While the date field is

Displaying a Tree
Hi, Just a request for comments and ideas really. I need to display a Tree so that users can easily navigate to and from the various branches. I''m not really sure how best to do this, so I thought I''d ask here in case anyone had any ideas... Thanks in advance! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Package exams with Moodle and OLAT support
Dear useRs, this week we have released a new version (1.9) of the "exams" package which now contains flexible tools for generating e-learning exams for various learning management systems: As in earlier versions of the package exam generation is still based on separate Sweave files for each exercise. Classic Upgrade: Unable to enumerate group memberships
Hello. I'm using Version 4.0.8-SerNet-Ubuntu-5.precise (Also, a heads up on this release; the folder /var/run/samba must be created upon reboot. When starting Samba I get this error: ERROR: can't open /var/run/samba/samba.pid: Error was No such file or directory) So anyway, when trying to do a classic upgrade/migration in order to preserve authentication information on a new domain. [OT] Linux/CentOS Volunteer or PT Work
Hi All, I'm pretty new to this list and to CentOS, so forgive me if this kind of thing is shunned. I have really enjoyed following some threads on this list and learning what everyone out there is doing with the OS. I actually got started on CentOS when researching how to study for the RHCE without forking out big cash for Red Hat licenses, a donation is coming soon. Anyway, I'm

CMS act_as_tree and modular architecture
I am developing a CMS using act_as_tree for the pages and act_as _list to order them (as shown on Railscasts). Each page can load a custom ERB template, for instance I have one to display a standard article and one to display a group of articles (so acting as a category of underling articles). If I want to develop a forum, let''s say that I have a page with id 5, with name forum, how can

act_as_tree with ordered items
Hello I am using a data structure that resembles a tree with ordered items. I know I can use :order in act_as_tree to sort the items at each level, but since the items have no logical order I would have to use a table column just to store this order. My experience with position indices of this kind is that it can lead to inconsistencies in the database so I am reluctant to use such a

medians on data frame with duplicated rows
Dear list: I have a data frame with student name, class he attended and marks for subjects he attended. Students took second exam if they performed badly in their first attempt. I want to consider the test scores where they obtain highest median. there are 6 classes. As a sample case, I will consider only classes A, B and C. For class A, Student Raj took first exam and he did not score well.

Does certification make sense for non-PE users?
Subject really says it all. I took the practice exam linked from @PuppetLabs and I was a little bit surprised/caught-off-guard by the number of either PE or Console questions, neither of which I''ve ever used :-! I am taking the developer exam though, so I''m sure that will be at least a little different. Does it make sense to take the exam for an "open source puppet

Building two redundant servers without clustering
Hi, my Fileserver lately refused to work anymore. I'm quite thankfull for that for that it was a bit slow anyway ;-) My idea is to set up two relativley samba-hosts instead of byuing one "real" server with many build in redundancies. That can only work if I can manage to keep both filesystems in sync and I see two alternatives: 1.: Use drdb to build a RAID1 across the two
