WEBrick initialisation error
I am new to Ruby so I thought the best way to get into it would be to
follow the ONLamp "Rolling with Ruby on Rails" intro. I followed the
instructions to the letter and everything work just great, very
impressive:-).
A couple of days later when I went back to it I got the following
message when trying to start the WEBrick server.

scgi?? do i need it for ruby?
This might be obvious to everyone but it is something that i haven''t
been able to find an answer to. Do I need to have either
scgi/fastcgi/cgi running on either lighttpd/apache for ruby scripts to
work? If yes, why? I have installed the scgi server and i can get the
service to run, i have also installed the following mod_fastcgi/2.4.2
mod_ruby/1.2.4 Ruby/1.8.2(2004-12-25) mod_scgi,

App running fine on Webrick, ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished in lighttpd
My app runs fine on webrick, but I get a
ActiveRecord::ConnectionNotEstablished when I try to run it on

$HTTP["host"] =~ "(www\.)?mysite\.com" {

Rails speed?
Hi --
(First time posting to the list...)
I''m trying out Rails on my Mac (OS X Panther, 1.6 G5). It seems...
kinda slow? I''ve even run it with FastCGI and the response time is
still painfully slow.
Is this just me? Is mod_ruby any better than FastCGI? Or is it rails?
Thanks in advance!

New to Ruby... installation questions
Hi all,
I''m looking into installing Ruby on Rails on my dedicated server which
is RH Linux with a traditional PHP/MySQL/Apache configuration.
I''m not an expert Linux user, but I can hold my own. My server hosts
around 15 domains with websites of various complexity, some shops, some
CMS, some completely flat. I''m looking for a tutorial explaining how to
install Ruby

rails on low memory vps
Anyone got any tips for running Rails (w/ either webrick or
lighttpd/fcgi) on a VPS with a pretty small amount of memory (like
64MB memory and 64MB swap).
Thanks,

First try with lighttpd
Hi,
I have a Rails application sitting on my computer that works just fine
with webrick. I would like to try to serve it locally with lighttpd
I followed the instructions on the hivelogic site for installing lighttpd
http://hivelogic.com/articles/2005/12/01/ruby_rails_lighttpd_mysql_tiger
Then I looked on page 457 in the Agile Rails book for instructions
about configuring the rails app for

Multiple Rails app on the same server?
I have a rails app on a debian server running lighttpd and I''m trying to
set up typo so that it also works (with a different url). I have 4 URLs
running -- let''s call them foo.com, bar.com, www.typo.com and
php.typo.com
I am starting lighttpd by going into the directory where my foo.com app
is and typing either ruby script/server or script/server -e production

debugging 500 Internal Server Error when dispatch.fcgi run?
I''m trying to get my Ruby on Rails application to work under Apache. It
works fine when run as WEBrick ("ruby script/server").
As suggested in
http://www.ocssolutions.com/support/ruby/troubleshooting-ruby-on-rails.php
, I tried running dispatch.fcgi on the command line. When I run it, no
matter where I run it, it outputs:

Internal Server Error - I want to cry
I got a brand new Fedora Core 4 box and was all excited to get Rails
running on it. That was about two days ago. I did all the ''yum install
ruby, etc. etc. etc.'', then ''gem install rails, etc. etc. etc''. I''ve
tried running Rails with httpd (fastcgi and cgi), lighttpd (scgi,
fastcgi, cgi), mongrel, webrick, and even ''ruby

Is Webrick good enough?
Hi all,
On the rails list I''ve seen that it''s hard to integrate Rails with Apache
(especially apache2), that it''s hard to change the default port (3000), and
that Apache runs Rails stuff slowly.
Is it reasonable to run Rails stuff on Webrick while simultaneously running
other stuff on Apache? How does one simultaneously run two rails applications
on Webrick, when

Rails hosting per user
I''m trying to set up shared rails websites, so every user has its own
public_html for rails scripts.
I''m not really satisfied with the fastcgi approach (cgi scripts can
sometimes be nasty security problems) so I''d like to try the another
approach. (If someone knows a good tutorial on installing rails on FreeBSD
including the fastcgi configuration that would be nice).

File Upload Problems With Apache and Lighttpd But Not Webrick...
I am having trouble uploading files through a form when using Apache
(production) or Lighttpd (development). The odd thing is that when I force
script/server to load Webrick, the upload works just fine on the same
code-base.
When it fails, the upload just sits there forever. Some browsers eventually
return an error code, others spin for a long time... Anyway, it never
recovers.
The file is a

Production environment for Rails on Win32, anyone interested for a binary release?
Hi all, as part of adopting Rails in my company I had to go through
the hassle of setting up a Rails production environment on Win32
system since we mostly use MS SQL as our database back end and also
because we mostly dealing with customers who become green-blue-purple
as soon as you mention Unix/Linux and run for the door.
I also need to mention that most of our web applications are internal

Needed - a step by step WAMP installation of Rails
I am finding the installation process for Rails a bit confusing. First
of all I want to use:
Windows 2000
Apache 1.3+
MySQL
The above is accomplished with WAMP5 from wampserver.com
The problem is that there is no complete step-by-step for installation
in this enviroment. The wiki instructions hop around from One-click to
Apache.conf and other items. Installing CGI support for languages on

Rails on lighttpd locks up, freezes, unresponsive every day
I have RoR running on lighttpd on RedHat Linux and every morning that I
check the web page it just keeps waiting to refresh it forever, Firefox
and IE never times out on any of the pages I try. Has anyone seen that
happening to their RoR? I also removed lighttpd completely and just ran
webrick but there was no difference. The linux box has a pretty old
kernel 2.4.21-4, could that be the

My app was running fine with Linux, Apache2/Lighttpd and MySQL. I have a
need to migrate to Windows, Apache2 and MS SQL. But I keep getting the

give me a pointer where to go next for troubleshooting? Thanks in
