Many Tx dropped packets
Hi, I have 3 xen box with 2-3 VM on each. Each server has 2 nic (1 for external and 1 for internal network). All VMs are webserver and they mount a nfs filesystem. I''ve noticed that on each dom0 there are many dropped packets. Server config is: 1- DELL (2xQuad Xeon E5320 @1.86Ghz - 8Gb Ram - Perc5 - Kernel 2.6.18-6 (debian etch)) 2- DELL (2xDual Xeon 5110 @1.60Ghz - 4Gb Ram - Perc5 -

[PATCH] Fix Xen panic with oprofile
The attached patch fixes a Xen panic when a domain is shutdown before oprofile is stopped. Without this patch, free_xenoprof_pages() is called before the domain is destroyed and that, in turn, prevents oprofile from cleaning up pages shared with guests. Shutting down a domain without terminating oprofile therefore causes a Xen panic at a later point in time. The patch was generated against Xen

GlusterFS 3.7 - slow/poor performances
Dear all, I have a crash test cluster where i?ve tested the new version of GlusterFS (v3.7) before upgrading my HPC cluster in production. But? all my tests show me very very low performances. For my benches, as you can read below, I do some actions (untar, du, find, tar, rm) with linux kernel sources, dropping cache, each on distributed, replicated, distributed-replicated, single (single

RHEL6 domU migrate issues w/ higher to lower frequency CPU''s
Hey folks, I''ve encountered a rather interesting/frustrating issue with RHEL6 domU''s and live migration. I have no problems booting a RHEL6 domU using its stock/native kernel on Xen 3.4.1 or Xen 3.4.3. But in terms of live migration, there seems to be a problem when moving from a higher (in terms of CPU MHz) to lower (MHz) system -- even if the higher of the two is a much

paravirtualized vs HVM disk interference (85% vs 15%)
Hi, We have found that exist a huge degradation in performance when doing I/O to a disk images contained in single files from a paravirtualized domain and from an HVM at the same time. The problem was found in a Xen box with Fedora 8 x86_64 binaries installed (Xen 3.1.0 + dom0 Linux 2.6.21). The test hardware was a rack mounted server with two 2.66 Ghz Xeon X5355 (4 cores each one, 128 Kb L1

new install of Xen 4.6 hangs on Loading initial ramdisk
?Not sure if this actually made it to the list the first time.? Here is the SERIAL output (bottom of message after your questions).? Googling the error indicates it's something people ran into a few years back but was supposedly fixed.? Any ideas? I can verify that if I REMOVE the second CPU, it boots into Xen kernel no problem.? The CPU itself doesn't matter, as I can swap either

Large directory performance
We have been struggling with our Lustre performance for some time now especially with large directories. I recently did some informal benchmarking (on a live system so I know results are not scientifically valid) and noticed a huge drop in performance of reads(stat operations) past 20k files in a single directory. I''m using bonnie++, disabling IO testing (-s 0) and just creating, reading,

smbd PANIC at privileges
I've had a lprng/samba print server for (literally) years that has just worked perfectly. Everything is setup with full guest printing, mainly to make our lives here a little easier. I had to migrate the machine from one physical server to another and I just basically copied the lprng printcap and smb.conf file to the new server, restarted the services, and everything seems to be working.

OSX and Office documents
I am using Samba Version 3.6.0 from the Arch Linux samba 3.6.0-8 and started to have problems with Max OSX Lion clients. I only have a few, and the OSX clients are the only ones not working. I have a very simple samba setup using security = user and a single [home] (not the [homes]) share. Here is the config: [home] nt acl support = no path = /home/samba/home writable =

GlusterFS 3.7 - slow/poor performances
hi Geoffrey, Since you are saying it happens on all types of volumes, lets do the following: 1) Create a dist-repl volume 2) Set the options etc you need. 3) enable gluster volume profile using "gluster volume profile <volname> start" 4) run the work load 5) give output of "gluster volume profile <volname> info" Repeat the steps above on new and old

Xen 3.2.1, Intel DQ35JO, VT-d not working with Windows 2003
I spent a few hours upgrading one of my Xen boxes so that I''d be able to use VT-d. I bought a DQ35JO because it seemed like a sure thing. I can successfully use pciback to hide and grab devices. Specifically I am trying to pass some USB controllers to Windows. The DQ35JO/ICH9DO appears to have two independent sets of USB UHCI/EHCI controllers: 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel

xen 3.2.1 + intel quad core + 8gigs of ram + linux
Hi! Anyone have a suggestion which version of Linux would be the best host? We typically use Ubuntu but we are flexible since we want the best performance and the least amount of headaches getting it installed and working.
