oddness when adding to index -
I was having some odd results when working with acts_as_ferret (current trunk), so I decided to test with the current version of ferret to see if I encountered the same problem. I did. Here are the details: installed ferret 0.10.10 on debian sarge with ''sudo gem install ferret'' (btw, same results on OSX) opened up an irb session: irb(main):001:0> require

Stop words, fields, StandardAnalyzer quagmire
Hello, I''m using: Ruby 1.8.6, Rails 1.2.3, ferret 0.11.4, acts_as_ferret from svn stable. I''ve had quite a day wrestling with trying to remove the use of stopwords. The problem was that when searching for words like "no" or "the", no results were found. I found a confusing thing behavior that has taken me some time to figure out, and I hope sharing it

Hi folks, I''ve working and playing with acts_as_ferret and follow this fantastic tutorial: http://www.railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as-ferret-tutorial When I try to implement the field storage tip, it crash. Confused about Search Results
Hi everyone, I''m pretty new to Lucene and Ferret, so I feel that this is most likely myself not completely understanding the correct way to do this. I haved indexed ~2200 text files (of various sizes), and I am now running searches on the index to get a feel for Lucene and Ferret. In my first program, which is using Lucene I search for ''influenza'' and get the

Which analyzer to use
Lucene''s standard analyzer splits words separater with underscores. Ferret doesn''t do this. For example, if I create an index with only document ''test_case'' and search for ''case'' it doesn''t find anything. Lucene on the other hand finds it. The same story goes for words separated by colons. Which analyzer should I use to emulate

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all, I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the indications @ http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop words : "fax" and "gsm". test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a stop word. => I get a

Ferret and non latin characters support
I''ve successfully installed ferret and acts_as_ferret and have no problem with utf-8 for accented characters. It returns correct results fot e.g. fran?ais. My problem is with non latin characters (Persian indeed). I have tested different locales with no success both on Debian and Mac. Any idea? Parallel indexing doesn''t work?
Hi, I''m trying to get parallelized ferret indexing working for my AAF indices, based on the example in the O''Reilly Ferret shortcut. However, the resulting indices after merging seem to have no actual documents. I went and made minimal changes to the example in the Ferret shortcut pdf, and indeed can''t get that to work either. I''d appreciate any help

Searcher Explain
Hi, I am unable to use the Searcher''s explain method. Anytime I call it, I get Segmentation Faults and it kills the process I have running my Rails site. Has anyone else had this problem? Here is some code I am trying to use it in... search = Search.create(:query => query) @quotations = [] searcher = Ferret::Search::Searcher.new("index") # FerretConfig::INDEX bq =

Segmentation fault in Search::Searcher#highlight
I''m using ferret 0.10.14 in Linux Fedora 3. When I do highlight with Index::Index#highlight, it works well. But, doing the same test with Searcher#highlight, [BUG] Segmentation fault occurred. Some basic questions
Hi, David and everyone, I''ve had Ferret running fine in a production Rails application for a while now. I haven''t updated Ferret or really looked at the Ferret-related code since probably January, but I recently started thinking about trying out the latest version (we were using 0.3.2, I think). I got the latest (0.9.4) and have noticed things break. In particular, I used to

No search results using Searcher
I just started using Ferret and I successfully indexed some documents. I can search this index using the following code: index = Index::Index.new(:path => path) index.search_each("something") do |doc, score| print "##{doc} #{index[doc][''url'']} - #{score}" print "\n" end However, when I try to use Search::Searcher and QueryParser

Help with Multiple Readers, 1 Writer scenario
Hi, I''m building a web server application using Ferret [thanks so much Dave], Mongrel and Camping which works fine servicing one request at a time, but serialises searches if more than one request arrives, so I''d like some advice please about the best way to use multiple readers and one writer. Some background ... query requests which in my case are always read only, arrive via

QueryParser doesn''t use StandardAnalyzer correctly?
I am having a bit of a problem with my search queries being parsed correctly it seems, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. I have written an index using StandardAnalyzer for analysis. I want to search that index by passing my user query through a QueryParser instance which is also using a StandardAnalyzer. However the resultant query does not seem to be a valid term query and

How to add Asia token analyzer to ferret simply?
Hi,David Can you give me an example of how to add analyzer to ferret to Asian languages? My web application will have to support multi language search, which means, for example, both Chinese and English will be searched through the form. Currently,I have decided to use the simple token principles, which means that every Chinese character will be a token, although this is not so well in some

Problem with stop words
I am seeing trouble with searches for ''you'' not returning anything. It appears that ''you'' is a stop word to the standard analyzer: require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' index = Ferret::I.new(:or_default => false) index << ''you'' puts index.search(''you'') returns

Passing text from an rhtml input to a controller
Hello, I would like to allow people to type some text into a webpage and then have that text passed to the controller (e.g. for use by a search routine). The following code has an input box in a form. What would I put in the "title" parameter to have that passed to the controller? When I put in a constant string it works but when I put in things like
