Unable to use software counters
Hi All I want to use software counters available via "xenperf". However I get this error "Error getting number of perf counters: 38 (Function not implemented)". Am I missing something? Some configuration or option which needs to be turned on before I can use these counters. Any help would be much appreciated. I am using Xen 3.1.0 x86_64 -- Jyotirmaya Tripathi Virginia Tech

performance counters
In order to be meaningful and usable together with other measuring methods, their use in my opinion should impose as little overhead as possible. With that, I wonder why per-cpu counters use atomic operations. PATCH: pretty print for xenperf
Hi, this is almost an ia64 specific patch to xenperf. It makes xenperf output more understandable. On x86, it now displays hypercalls name. Tested on xen/ia64. GSOC project
Hi, I think a nice project would be to write an application to figure out those latencies automatically maybe even based on envydis. It could generate latency information based on thread count, register usage, instruction/instruction class, hw unit used. Or even tries to figure out what kind of units exist. Like instructions out of a group which are free to issue/execute after instructions out

xen hvm profiling
My recent interest in the TPR-write problem has got me thinking about if there is any other optimisation that could be done for windows, especially as a few people have reported issues with more than a few processors, and they say they are already running 2K3sp2 which should have TPR optimisation in it already. Is there any facility currently for profiling the frequency of vmexit''s to

Finishing up the contributors list as well
Guys, OK, now that we have the new core contributors squared away, we can go back to finishing the contributors list. There were some people who got added and then there is existing contributors list. I think Darren''s suggestion to wait to add new core contributors is fine (let the new constitution settle down and we can in the meanwhile have a more inclusive look at both rather than

Hwo to disable the polling function of mac_srs
In crossbow, each mac_srs has a kernel thread called "mac_rx_srs_poll_ring" to poll the hardware and crossbow will wakeup this thread to poll packets from the hardware automatically. Does crossbow provide any method to disable the polling mechanism, for example disabling the this kernel thread? GSOC project
Hello, Even I think it would be a very big project for just 3 months, but it would be fun learning and developing this. I feel I have the required skills and would like to learn more for this. I have just one doubt regarding the GPU required for the task. Will a normal NVIDIA GT 740m would be enough or we need better GPUs like Tesla or Quadro? In the latter case how can one proceed in case of its

There's not a lot of information about it. Basically we need 2 instruction scheduling passes -- one pre-RA and one post-RA. The prerequisites are "know how compilers work" and "have a GPU that you can test performance on". I won't beat around the bush - this is a very tough project. Every attempt at it so far has basically failed. There are a lot of issues that have to

debian/patches/* for xen-unstable 16319
I've resolved the conflicts between the xen-unstable svn tree's patchset and xen-unstable 16319 (which was the tip a few days ago). The result is below, as the output of `svn diff' - so a series of interdiffs, unfortunately. Also, I noticed that after installing the resulting packages, it wasn't able to correctly select the xen-unstable tools; instead, it fell back to the default.

[PATCH] Enable Core 2 Duo Performance Counters in HVM guest
Hi, Keir, Currently, HVM guests do not have access to performance counters. So it is not possible to use performance analyzer software such as vtune in HVM guest to analyze programme performance. Other usage of performance counters , for example, the NMI watchdog, won''t function either. This patch will enable performance counters in HVM guest. Currently, only Core 2 Duo is implemented.
