MacBook Pro Yonah (Intel Core Duo)
Dear all; Has anyone tried the new CPU (codename Yonah) produced by Apple? I heard from the engineer of Apple that MacBook Pro is already reachable, although it is not distributed to the public until February. If anyone has some information, I would like to buy it to enlarge the frontier. -- Does Yonah demand xen/i86 or xen/ppc? Or we need brand-new source code? That is the problem. Is

Dom0 versus DomU and sata DVD drives
I have couple question about using Xen in the "real" world. My test box is a Dell Optiplex 745 with a Core 2 processor and 4 G of RAM. I am using 64 bit Centos 5 with Xen 3.03. Right now I have it set up so Dom0 is my working domain and I add other DomU for whatever tests i need to do. From what I''ve read here, this is not the best way to do things. So my first question is,

how mem-set / balloon changes totalram_pages
Hi, I find that after I use xm mem-set to change the current memory allocation of a dom, the MemTotal in /proc/meminfo will give the current allocation. In my understanding, the balloon driver simply alloc / free pages, so the MemTotal should not be changed. Only the free memory will be affected. In normal linux, the value of MemTotal comes from "totalram_pages" defined in

Which exactly Linux kernel version was used to build the Xen 3.1 binary?
Hi, Which of the Mercurial repos contains Linux kernel sources that were used to build the Xen 3.1 binary distribution? I have this question because I am suspecting that the sata_via driver included in the distribution is not supporting my SATA controller VIA8237x (I get error messages when modprobe''ing it from an init ramdisk). Xen and Linux on Intel G33 needs kernel 2.6.19+
Dear, I''m looking to get Xen running on a system that (afterwards) seems a bit too new. The board has the Intel G33 chipset with the Intel ICH9 southbridge. This chipset is NOT supported by kernel 2.6.18 which ships with Xen 3.1.2 (and Debian Etch). So the question is: * What version of Xen to install to get going? Should I choose unstable? * What distribution will be the easiest to get

Xenstore interface works on Windows guest?
Hi, Anyone knows whether how xenstore interface works on the Windows guest? If it does, how? I just want to send a small amount of data between dom0 and the Windows guest. Grant Tables between dom0 and domU?
Hi All, The interface manual says - grant tables provide a generic mechanism sharing between domains. Subsequent lines suggest mechanism sharing between only unpriviliged domains. Can grant tables be used for this capability based shared memory communication between dom0 and domUs? Thanks ~psr -- pradeep singh rautela "proud to be a TUXedo, BSDemons you are a little late" - me

Xen 3.1 - 32 vs 64 bit hypervisor
I''ve been experimenting with Xen 3.1. My requirements are to run lots 32 bit paravirt domains on large memory hosts (8GB or more). Previously I''ve used a 32 bit Xen with PAE hypervisor which works well. However I seen from the announcement that you can use a 64 bit hypervisor and still run 32 bit PAE domains. I''ve tried this and it works as advertised! What

xen over quemu OR quemu in Xen domU on a system with HVM-capable CPU
Hello all, I know that the question: Is it possible to run quemu inside Xen domU or run Xen domain 0 on quemu have discussed earlier in this mail list. As far as I remember this is possible except such a configuration where kquemu acceleration is in use. But what about HVM-capable systems? Please tell me are there the same restrictions for the hvm-capable systems? Thank you! -- WBR,

XP: VBD could not connect to backend device: USB boot
Hi: we have following setup: 1. 2.6.16-33-based Xen 3.0.3/Xen-3.0.4 DOM-0 kernels. 2. Using LILO-mbootpack from USB we boot Xen-->DOM-0 setup 3. We mount harddisk and try to install xp.hvm While,we are successful with FCs as DOM-U, for XP we get, VBD (768) could not be connected. We do have max_loop count to 64 and enough loop devices. Note that above error is consistent on both 3.0.3

Cannot start Xend . Xen 3.2 rc4. Permission denied error 13.
I end up with the same error after building and running xen-stable 3.2-rc4 on both Ubuntu 7.10 and Fedora Core 6. I am using AMD64 builds. I have carefully followed the instruction on the xenbits.xensource.com on building Xen unstable. After booting with the new Xen and dom0 kernel, I cannot use any Xen tools (such as xm) from Dom0. I have tried restarting Xend but it fails with the same errors.

Avoiding VmEntry/VmExit.
Hi All, I am trying to provide services to guest VMs where I wish to run guest VMs in a loop. I wish to use a core to schedule a guest VM, service it eg. execute an ISR etc and then return to the context of Xen on that core, so that I can then schedule the next VM on that core. In doing all this, the goal is to avoid the calls to VMEntry and VMExit. Is there a workaround for this to be done or
